Tldr; but I did read a similar article about them earlier from a different source.
Apparently Pitney Bowes stock is up 50% in the last 5 days. They’re making a killing financially. Probably saving on labor by not having anyone working in their warehouses.
Similar to other large public and private organizations, the government agency has thousands of employees now working remotely or ‘teleworking’ – a situation which may become permanent for many. The agency needed to deliver business-critical operations from these multiple locations, while retaining cost visibility and accountability, without compromising on service.
“Not compromise on service”… umm OK. Clearly they didn’t investigate reality. I hope whatever needs shipped back and forth is for some obscure agency where timely delivery is irrelevant to most of us, the economy or anything else important.
Too bad they didn’t use the USPS. That would help with the USPS budget a lot. Not to mention they are actually reliable, timely, and don’t generally drop kick boxes.
Why does anyone expect this government to choose the company that delivers the best service. We all know that PB sucks (me more than most as I have had a PB postage machine for more than 30 years). Sure there is a kickback or one of Trump’s cronies is getting rich over this while the US postal service is dying.
Are we talking about this mainly/partly bc this is who Meh uses? I think I read that recently. Any chance enough of us can pressure Meh to use someone else?
@Kidsandliz@mehvid1 Think they are back to using fedex for stuff people want and really important stuff-to wit the July IRK and the plastic face protectors I ordered.
Between my wife and I, we have 4 packages MIA in the past three weeks that are all direct USPS shipments. It’s not just Pitney that’s blowing right now.
@djslack Part of the problem is the people out on COVID quarantine. Another part is the new guy that the cheeto put in charge of USPS. He fired a lot of the backup ppl that USPS hired to cover for the ppl out on quarantine. He also cut out overtime for the trained workers who have longevity. It’s created a huge backlog. I waited for 3 1/2 weeks for some packages that were tracked already in my city. I can’t say that it’s a setup to make USPS look bad enough not to fund but it sure is happening at a convenient time.

@OnionSoup Just wait until this unnamed agency finds out what we already know. Let’s hope they aren’t the ones delivering mail in voting ballots.
And the article says:

@Kidsandliz the people working from home are their delivery drivers and warehouse workers.
@OnionSoup I think “home” is the key word here that explains everything.

I mean they’re already running the department of states mail.

@mehvid1 There have been threads and threads about PB’s problematic shipping and meh is now using other methods for some items.
@Kidsandliz Thanks. I’m rarely in the forums.

My June IRK left a PB facillity 30 minutes from my house 2 weeks ago. It hasn’t been seen since.
@kyanostiger The porch pirates aren’t even waiting for it to hit the porch anymore! Stealing it right off the shipping dock!
