Pi Day
20Happy Pi Day!
Today is March 14, or if you write it out in a certain way, 3.14, which, of course, are the first three digits of the infinitely non-repeating, irrational number, Pi.
Pi is nominally the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, but it occurs very, very often in science, math and technology.
Some say that the area of a circle is “pi r square,” but everybody knows, pi are round!
Enjoy pi day. Irrationally, if you can, have a piece of pi as close to 1:59::26.5 PM today. Why then? The first nine digits of pi are 3.14159265!
Woo hoo!

@narfcake fantastic! Thanks for sharing! (dang we’re nerds! )
@JWhirly @narfcake
gave one to my son years ago. It’s still one on my favorites.
@chienfou @JWhirly @narfcake i ordered two. Guess how much the sales tax was for the $38 order?
8.25%, giving 3.135, whch rounds to …
[Karma?]
@JWhirly @narfcake @phendrick
Nah… Just a nice “round” number!
Surprised no Google Doodle for Pi Day!
There’s also a much more significant importance to March 14th.
@OnionSoup
Care to enlighten us?
@chienfou lol… As a kid used to eat cake, not pie on this day.
@OnionSoup Obviously, you were celebrating Albert Einstein’s birthday. I mean, what other reason would you have for a cake?
@OnionSoup
/giphy happy birthday
@OnionSoup @rockblossom
Sadly, also the anniversary of Steven Hawking’s death …

@pakopako those shirts are hilarious.
@dave I wonder how much
convincingphotoshopping did it take to get them to line up like that.Besides, everyone knows baseball is all about the diamond (rhombus), though I guess they do like to round the bases.
@xobzoo I’m not positive it’s real but it was official:
@dave I guess that’s good enough for me!
I baked a blueberry pi.
@curtise [drool] … especially if it happened to be topped with vanilla ice cream…
Baked a cabbage pie for the GISH hunt years ago. It was disgusting 🫣
@llangley Why cabbage?
@Kyeh I didn’t remember offhand but knew there had to be a reason
I left out the calculations. But I still have them🫣
@llangley How funny! And you put an octopus on the pie too?
@Kyeh good eye!! Our group was formed of Mehtizens…and our name was Breakfast Octopus . It was a wacky combo of weird tasks and good deeds, hosted by Misha Collins but discontinued last year or so.
@llangley It sounds really fun - too bad it’s discontinued!
Got this from a friend in an email last night:
I baked this Pumpkin pie for Pi Day several years back(10 actually…sheesh…)
and of COURSE it’s square!
Don’t you know that PIE R SQUARE?
that lovely little divot is where i fumbled my phone INTO the pie before i could take a picture…
Pi has been in use since the first Pithecanthropus.
