I’d love a skull speaker! Maybe not a sunglass wearing metallic skull, but it it looked kinda real, it’d fit right into my decor, better than boxy black speakers would.
@jonjen2 Agreed. I’m using mine via wire with my desktop PC and they provide very satisfactory sound much better than the old mini-speakers + subwoofer I used to use.
@sammydog01 do you have them connected via Wire? I would think if you changed the tv volume the speakers would change too. I want to get these for my TV so appreciate the post!
@sourhead Yes, they are wired to the TV. When I looked this up on the internet it said that most TVs don’t have the audio output controlled by the remote. The TV in question has a blown speaker or something that makes speech unintelligible so it’s still worth it. The knob on the speaker does work. It’s like the old days when you had to get up to change the channel.
I got these last time. They’re meh at best. They produce sound but it’s not very loud. I was going to use than as external tv speakers in the bedroom but they can’t quite cut it.
Is Meh.com “meh’ing” the Philips speakers? Or why does the last paragraph say “Panasonic” Quote “Yes, when you’ve endured the soul-deadening parade of obnoxious cheese that is contemporary Bluetooth speaker design, the button-down basic black of these Panasonic Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers feels sober, reassuring, even relaxing. To us, anyway.”
@thekiltedwonder depends on the tv… but generally these would be better than built in speakers.
The issue here is your tv would need an audio out (headphone jack, or aux out/3.5mm out) and if you don’t wanna get up and change the volume your tv would also have to control the volume for the 3.5mm out jack (headphone jacks are usually controlled by the remote with no issues, its the aux out ones that might not, some are switchable to be constant line out or controlled by remote).
But since you have vmp even if you didn’t use it for the tv its a pretty good price for some ok speakers.
I have both bluetooth and a 3.5mm audio out on my media box, so these will work fine. Just looking for a bit more volume than the built in speakers provide.
@Kyser_Soze There’s photos of the speakers from every angle, pictures of the internal components, and the instruction manual at the link mwarren provided.
My favorite Bluetooth speaker that I got from Meh is the iPig. I have the little pink porker connected to my iMac. The bass is awesome! I was expecting a picture of it to pop up as I scrolled down the page.
@Lrok I got one of those in a Fuku – and I loved it, but I had no real use for it. I gave it to a lady at our last yard sale. She seemed to be really impressed with it.
So, the bass sucks. That is the only thing that sucks about them. Reliable as having to get up to pee an hour before my alarm at 36. Which is saying something.
For most music and TV there’s nothing better at this price point.
For 24 dollars these are very good computer speakers. I bought three last time @ 28 dollars each. Cannot comment on the Bluetooth, but the 3.5mm jack and power supply works very well. There is no “brick” power supply, just a simple two pronged plug. Nice to not have to deal with a “power brick”. Hooked up a pair on a friends TV and used it as a "poor man’s (woman’s) sound bar. While not “high end sound”, they beat most computer speakers under 80-100 bucks. Cheap self powered speakers that sound good. Buy them now, keep them for when you or a friend needs a relatively good, relatively cheap self powered speaker!
@smartr looks like they are trying to find a spot for these. that crazy up and down stuff, always coming back down to around 35-40 helps show, thats the market value. so yeah, save $10 thats cool, nothing wrong with that, but i would rather pass. i will pick these up soon enough for under $20.
Title says “Bluetooth 2.0 speakers”, which could be referring to them being stereo without a sub as someone mentioned above, but I don’t think I’ve seen that nomenclature used for speakers, usually it’s the outputs of the HT receiver or amp that drives them (zing!) being classified as 5.1, 7.1, 2.1 or plain stereo (2.0). Speakers just play (ha hah) whatever role you require of them. Buy three of these, and using the wire connection, they’d be 6.0 then??
Then… the descrip below the pic says we can connect BT 3.0 devices. Hmmm, ok, but:
Click on the link for more info and it now tells us we can use Android devices with BT 2.1 or above… or… other BT devices with BT 4.0 or lower.
So, it seems like the definitive answer is somewhere between 2.1 and 4.0… unless the title IS referring to a Bluetooth version also! Aggh!
There’s only one way to settle this, Meh. We need an objective third party, with VMP, like me, to be sent a pair or two of these for investigation.
No,no,no… it would be my pleasure. You’re welcome.
@thismyusername Unfortunately, at this point we cannot trust any affirmation of BT version related to the original post, that link included.
My proposal still stands, but only for today.
came to comments thinking for sure some obsessive would’ve rounded up links to all the mocked BT speaks. But here’s the last one which is actually kind of cool. http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/1f26/
I’d almost given up hope these would show up again. They’re perfect with my Dot, with easy pairing and excellent sound. Ordered two more pairs - one for the basement, one for the porch.
@rcade81 Ditto! They make a great set of garage speakers. I use them with my phone via bluetooth, or use the attached 3.5 aux cable for an mp3 player or old discman. Great garage tunes for a doable price
@Bayamonprieto77 Hover over each image, right-click, select “Search Google for image”. You should be able to find most of them - if they’re still available.
I’m thinking about getting these but I think they’re too fancy for blasting audiobooks and podcasts over my cooking noises when I’m in the kitchen (so sound quality isn’t really an issue, as long as I can understand the words). I just need something that is louder than my phone speaker, and preferably under $20.
@PhotoJim That’s what I usually use but it’s not always practical to have cords dangling, and pockets to put the phone in. Bluetooth Headphones might work.
@HemlockTea Morningsave has a variety of cheap docking speakers that all come with bluetooth adapters. Like five bucks cheap. The fifteen buck ones (13.50 for VMP) are huge and loud. I bought the water resistant ones. They weigh a ton. (I just noticed the ones I bought are sold out but there is a similar one they still have.) https://morningsave.com/events/ilive-audio
1 Wireless Speaker, plus one wired speaker. They’re not both wireless, the one has to plug into the other. So they’re bookshelf speakers that have to live on the same shelf. Life is too short for audio this bad.
@txwoodworker You can get cable extenders. It’s not hard.
True wireless Bluetooth stereo speakers - that are wireless both to the computer and to each other - are more complicated than you think. Two separate wireless links are required, and each speaker then requires its own power source.
Help! I need troubleshooting advice. I have a desktop running Windows 10 (don’t hit me, I’m already suffering enough.) I successfully connected the speakers via Bluetooth. They beep, I play music, and all is good. After about thirty seconds music played on the Windows system stops being sent to the speakers. I’ve already tried checking the Bluetooth driver, which is up-to-date, and unpairing and repairing the speakers. Has anybody got guesses what could be going wrong?
@madamehardy you know that wire coming out the back of the speakers with the green 3.5mm plug on it? Plug that into the green speaker/headphone jack on your PC.
@madamehardy I did a quick lookaround and it seems windows 10 and some bluetooth drivers might be wonky… so my generic advice would be to update the bluetooth driver for the pc.
I am not much help, hopefully a bluetooth guru will roll up soon to help.
These are perfect for what I wanted them for, and they look great propped up on top of the '90’s era boom box with cd and cassette capabilities. Because, hey, have you transferred all your cassette tapes to digital yet? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Speaking of
I’d rather have anything else in the product thread than the speakers that are actually featured.
@ACraigL that space dude with the led eyes got my attention.
I’d love a skull speaker! Maybe not a sunglass wearing metallic skull, but it it looked kinda real, it’d fit right into my decor, better than boxy black speakers would.
@HemlockTea Found the skull speakers- By a company called Jarre technologies. They are expensive though…
These are really decent.
Might get another set.
@jonjen2 Agreed. I’m using mine via wire with my desktop PC and they provide very satisfactory sound much better than the old mini-speakers + subwoofer I used to use.
I bought these for our TV. They sound nice but you have to get off your butt to change the volume. Bummer.
Meh… can you hear me now?
Saw the horn speakers… got excited and ready to push buy… the phillips speakers loaded… tempered expectations.
@thismyusername The horn speakers are called Spinnakers. Hard to find now
Good to see I wasn’t the only one.
@Bayamonprieto77 I know, I live for the days that the $300 speakers land in mehs warehouse
https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-USA-Spinnaker-Speaker-System/dp/B008BSII2A
I got these last time. They’re meh at best. They produce sound but it’s not very loud. I was going to use than as external tv speakers in the bedroom but they can’t quite cut it.
More speakers? Aren’t we due for knives about now?
@lordbowen Nope… quadcopters.
@ruouttaurmind I should have thought of that. D’oh.
Have the spaceship one. I like it quite a bit.
@nkrishnasg I think you get a free pair for catching that typo… amiright?
@thismyusername A free pair - of spectacles, maybe?
@nkrishnasg spectacles only make sense if they’re molded into … a Bluetooth speaker!
How loud are these compared to TV’s built in speakers?
@thekiltedwonder depends on the tv… but generally these would be better than built in speakers.
The issue here is your tv would need an audio out (headphone jack, or aux out/3.5mm out) and if you don’t wanna get up and change the volume your tv would also have to control the volume for the 3.5mm out jack (headphone jacks are usually controlled by the remote with no issues, its the aux out ones that might not, some are switchable to be constant line out or controlled by remote).

I think I’ll give them a shot.
Oh, Meh!
Look inside the box before you buy! (Thank you FCC ID 2AANUSPA4270BT!)
@mwarren ???
@mwarren I’d have to buy it to look inside the box! If you got something I should know please tell me. Thanks.
@Kyser_Soze There’s photos of the speakers from every angle, pictures of the internal components, and the instruction manual at the link mwarren provided.
@mwarren Thanks for the info / pics!
Already have a spare set from last time, but if you need some speakers they sound pretty good for $24.
Aux in is hard wired with a 3.5mm stereo on the end.
Volume bass and treble are analog dials so might end up causing crackles but so far mine haven’t.
@thismyusername "crackles"
(sorry, should be on the random thread)
@mfladd I want.
@thismyusername I kinda want too.
@mfladd huh… who knew they made animated sweatshirts for acid reflux?
@mfladd me too!
Some of the Halloween designs are kind of cool… http://www.morphsuits.com/digital-dudz/all-wounds-and-tshirts
@mfladd meh should sell these!
@Brogers, can you get these for us?
@mfladd I WANT TGIS SQEATSHIRT
@MEHcus The masses have spoken. We need this.
Longest. Tuesday. Ever.
pfff- I still have this thing, and it cranks…
best weird speaker ever.
@alacrity I have this one, and it’s ugly, but I stuck it in the corner of my desk and it plays music.
Best thing I ever bought at meh.
@Officemonkey My teen has that one. He likes it. Right, @spcial_snwflake?

@capguncowboy There he is! I freaking love that thing.
So, the bass sucks. That is the only thing that sucks about them. Reliable as having to get up to pee an hour before my alarm at 36. Which is saying something.
For most music and TV there’s nothing better at this price point.
@stevo42 Think about maybe getting screened for sleep apnea.
At 55, I was thinking maybe it was my prostate getting me up to pee before my alarm, and now @ 57 with my C-PAP treating my apnea, I can sleep in…
Just saying…

@BuddTX I would be getting them, but I just blew $34 on the last blue-toothy speaker, and it’s not even stereo.
this. I would probably pick these speakers up, but I just bought that smaller unit last week.
/giphy ugh
These have worked fine for me.
@bigjonroberts But they are pretty meh.
@bigjonroberts So I guess YMMV
Ack, marketing! Bluetooth 2.0 or 2.0 (as in no sub) Bluetooth-enabled;
so confused
@zahgrim the linked user manual says Bluetooth Version 3.0 so I think they are using the speaker convention saying 2.0 speakers aka stereo speakers.
so tempting, but power cords, NO!!!
Very tempting, but only like $10 off prime price… pass.
If they were 10, 15, it would be a no brainer, if be in for at least 2, probably ring the bell for all 3.
But at $24, that’s an amazon daily deal price, and I don’t have to wait for ever for shipping.
Step your game up meh. JKnee, I’m disappointed in you. Even if you have nothing to do with this
@ErikRL camel camel camel price history suggests this deal is less meh than just beating the price by $10… Is the low price seasonal? :
http://camelcamelcamel.com/Philips-SPA4270BT-37-Bluetooth-Multimedia/product/B00I2PFBJ0
So, on that realization, I actually bit… invisible-trying-hill
@smartr looks like they are trying to find a spot for these. that crazy up and down stuff, always coming back down to around 35-40 helps show, thats the market value. so yeah, save $10 thats cool, nothing wrong with that, but i would rather pass. i will pick these up soon enough for under $20.
again, not bad, but, not very good either.
Enough with the speakers every other day, Meh. This is getting absurd.
@Telanis Putting your “every other day” claim to the test, let’s see the deals of the past two weeks …
Which came first? The day glo skull speaker, or the day glo skull mascot?
Very sneaky unveiling these listings late at night on the West Coast, when I’m all wined-up and impressionable. Very sneaky indeed.
I see pokeballs
Use these for my iPads and kindle hd when watching movies on them. Much better sound than the built in speakers.
Anyone here raise their hand who has read all of Infinite Jest.
…
Anyone here raise their hand who has heard of Infinite Jest before now.
.
Do the erudite mofos at meh know their audience…?
@michaelant I STARTED Infinite Jest. I wanted to like it. I gave up, but I kept the book just to try again some other time.
@michaelant I’ve heard of Infinite Jest. I haven’t read it because the set of books is infinite, while the set of available time is finite.
Anyway, “I haven’t heard of it” isn’t the same as “this is obscure”.
What’s the actual BT version for these?
Title says “Bluetooth 2.0 speakers”, which could be referring to them being stereo without a sub as someone mentioned above, but I don’t think I’ve seen that nomenclature used for speakers, usually it’s the outputs of the HT receiver or amp that drives them (zing!) being classified as 5.1, 7.1, 2.1 or plain stereo (2.0). @pajamma I was looking for the same! Thanks
I’d almost given up hope these would show up again. They’re perfect with my Dot, with easy pairing and excellent sound. Ordered two more pairs - one for the basement, one for the porch.
OMG, I love how the desk picture you show is taken right from Amazon! Hysterically MEH.
But you sold us these meh!
Very happy with mine. If you’re waiting for the perfect deal on a sound bar and need something in the meantime, these speakers are awesome!
I love these. I keep them in my garage and they’re loud enough to where I need to close the garage door to not piss the neighbors off at 2AM.
@rcade81 Ditto! They make a great set of garage speakers. I use them with my phone via bluetooth, or use the attached 3.5 aux cable for an mp3 player or old discman. Great garage tunes for a doable price
Wish meh would have included links to where to find the
"weird" Bluetooth speakers. Some of them are nice!
@Bayamonprieto77 Hover over each image, right-click, select “Search Google for image”. You should be able to find most of them - if they’re still available.
@RedOak Thanks- Did just that and found a couple of them already
Meh reviews sound good enough for computer speakers. If it turns out they are not…certainly they will be good enough for the workshop!
I’m thinking about getting these but I think they’re too fancy for blasting audiobooks and podcasts over my cooking noises when I’m in the kitchen (so sound quality isn’t really an issue, as long as I can understand the words). @dansch07 Neat
@DrunkCat apparently this is a “frizzle sizzle” plant according to Google
“Black and rectangular” reminded me of this:
Got mine today. I like them. Plenty loud for me! Haven’t paired them to my tablet yet, but so far they make great office speakers.
