Phantom 3 Advanced Footage
1Took the Phantom 3 Advanced out to our family farm. Great day for flying.
This is my 15th flight and I've got 1 hour 40 minutes of total flight time. Starting to feel a little more confident thanks to tips from @DJMajickMan, @ruouttaurmind, @djslack. Had a strong GPS signal with 15 satellites so I decided to turn off the maximum distance setting. At 130 feet altitude I was able to take the drone 2634 feet in distance before I got a "Weak Transmission Signal" and decided to hit the "Return To Home" button.
What do I need to do to fly farther? If I fly higher would I be able to fly a farther distance?

Nice video! The footage is excellent, and that's a nice cover too.
A half mile out is pretty impressive. Radio signal is line of sight so higher altitude will probably get you some gains. After that you'd be looking at antenna improvements.
Since antennas create gain by shaping their signal, your best bet would be to go with directional antennas on the receiver end, so you can point the antenna in the direction of the craft. Or do something like @Snapster did with amplifiers. Or do both!
@shawn, what a great video! Fantastic place to fly. Love the imagery.
Like @djslack said, a bit more altitude will likely get you more distance, as will a different antenna configuration. Flat panel or helical antennas are more directional. When combined with a signal amplifier you'll have about the best possible result. But you can get there in steps. I wouldn't bother with an amp if you don't improve the antenna, but you CAN do the antenna first and if you still aren't getting the results you want, add amp later.
Awesome video and music!
Great video @shawn. As they've previously said distance gain is going to be done with better antenna's and higher flight for less tree/power line/etc. interference at those distances. Check out this guys work on antenna replacements. Antenna Mods
