I’d say the potential for a Canadian province to become a 51st state in the United States would be a higher possibility. Not saying it’s going to happen, just the potential…I’d take Manitoba or Alberta TBH. Both are full of good people…
@tohar1 Oh, would we get to pick? I assumed it would be whatever they were willing to cast off, in which case we’d be getting Quebec and all of its troubles.
@xobzoo I’m not sure (being too old) that I’d be able to learn the French language, so they are out! (Stranger in a strange land when I went to Montreal a few years ago…Illegal to post any sign in English.
I’d go back, but would definitely brush up on some basic French beforehand!)
@pakopako@PhysAssist I was thinking a Fall trip would be pretty sweet. I’d imagine there’d be some pretty colors with all the trees through that area of the world.
@lordbowen a few years ago Trader Joe’s had a frozen poutine (fries with cheese sauce) that was pretty good. Sadly, like many TJ favorites, it was dropped.
Obviously frozen was not as good as something fresh in a place where you have to order it in French, but for a nice bite it was not bad.
@brainmist@lordbowen
Had an “Irish poutine” at Paddy O’s in Boston years ago. It was amazing. Tater tots with corned beef and Irish cheddar smothered in a Guinness gravy!
@Cerridwyn@lordbowen@pmarin
I just think pouring any liquidy sauce on fries is heresy - fries should be CRISP! Seasoned is good but soggy is ridiculous.
@Cerridwyn@Kyeh@lordbowen Well in Holland (Netherlands) there were street shops selling fries smothered in a mayo sauce, but in fairness I think it was a better mayo.
The trend took off after I left Britain so I’ve never had curry and chips… But I love curry and potatoes go well with curry, so I’ll probably like it too.
@brainmist@lordbowen@OnionSoup@kyeh
Well, to start with… these were “Tater Tots” and yeah, it made them soggy, but OMG were they good!! The wings in the pic were great as well.
The only negative for becoming a Canadian Province I can think of - Poutine drips make incredibly permanent stains. Starting to switch my wardrobe tops to paisley prints and polka dots today!
I honestly had to smile

@tohar1 @xobzoo I’ll take all the warm sub tropical parts of Canada please.

@tohar1 it’s probably Acadian now, but I liked PEI when I was there
@pakopako I really want to do one of those cruises that go from Ottawa or Montreal all the way over to PEI, then down to Boston.
@pakopako @tohar1
Me too- only in July or August though.
@pakopako @PhysAssist I was thinking a Fall trip would be pretty sweet. I’d imagine there’d be some pretty colors with all the trees through that area of the world.
You want poutine with that?

@lordbowen well, YEAH.

@lordbowen @pmarin we have a place that sells it. if it were fries and cheese sauce, I’d go there, but it’s not
Define: Poutine
a dish of French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy.
@Cerridwyn @lordbowen @pmarin
I just think pouring any liquidy sauce on fries is heresy - fries should be CRISP! Seasoned is good but soggy is ridiculous.
@Cerridwyn @Kyeh @lordbowen @pmarin
Yes. I even hate catsup on fries.
@Cerridwyn @Kyeh @lordbowen Well in Holland (Netherlands) there were street shops selling fries smothered in a mayo sauce, but in fairness I think it was a better mayo.
@Cerridwyn @lordbowen @pmarin I don’t mind sauces on the side to dip in, just not poured over.
@brainmist @chienfou @lordbowen
In parts of Britain curry sauce is frequently paired with chips (fries).
The trend took off after I left Britain so I’ve never had curry and chips… But I love curry and potatoes go well with curry, so I’ll probably like it too.

@brainmist @chienfou @lordbowen @OnionSoup Yeah, tots are kind of squooshy already, so not really losing their most appealing qualities if smothered, I’d say.
@Kyeh
Exactly!
Canada’s got its issues, but yeah, I’d jump ship if they offered.

@romellex absolutely worth it.
Besides, we will all have poutine stains so you won’t look odd.
@OnionSoup Thank you for making me feel so welcome
I do have one starter stained shirt, so should fit in immediately.
