I hate that ionizers keep getting pushed with purifiers, there’s studies saying that prolonged use of them can cause cancer. Plus if it’s an actual HEPA filter there’s literally no need for one
Why do I get the feeling Meh is trying to tell us something. e-Bikes, electric razers, pod lights, shredders, robot vacuums, and now air purifiers. What ever happened to knives, clothing, candy corn, anything not requiring a plug?
For reference, 160 square feet is a lot smaller area than the last filter they sold on here, which was rated for up to 430 square feet. Today’s filter covers 37% of the area for 58% of the price ($34 vs. $59). It does have a color-changing light though, so I guess that’s where all the extra cost comes from…
@The_Tim Depends on the size of the area where you (and others in your home) are spending the majority of their time and whether those spaces are adjacent. It might be more economical/ convenient/ logical to have two of the smaller than one of the larger. And then there’s the electrical usage of each to consider - I’ll let you come up with those figures since you did so well with the price and filtration comparisons.
@boygenius1991
Probably because we don’t commonly measure room sizes in cubic feet? Yes, yes, I know, up in the ISS, everything is in cubic measure. But they use meters.
@boardsandcords Nearly all of these use electronic switching, and will default to “off” if the power is cut. It makes them not terribly compatible with “smart home” switches.
@boardsandcords@werehatrack Looks like a SwitchBot would work, but they’re a bit pricy for this use case. I think I’ve seen them for under $20 on occasion, but usually they’re close to $30.
@boardsandcords@jester747
So basically someone took the old Useless Machine, miniaturized it, gave it connectivity, and made it not useless anymore. Dammit, IS NOTHING SACRED??!???

Will this help clean my emissions?
@yakkoTDI
We don’t want to know about those, mmmkay?
@werehatrack @yakkoTDI At least he isn’t talking about his crack tonight…
@werehatrack I know you don’t. That’s why I am trying to clean them.
Ionizer = meh
@ohheyitsmrwang at least its optional!
They could have chosen a model number that didn’t start with BS…
I hate that ionizers keep getting pushed with purifiers, there’s studies saying that prolonged use of them can cause cancer. Plus if it’s an actual HEPA filter there’s literally no need for one
@sum1 At least most of them can be turned off
@sum1 Oh fudge. I just bought one. Do I have cancer now?
Amazon sells a two-pack of third-party filter elements for this, it’s $32.
@werehatrack cheaper filters linked on homepage and specs!
@troy
Cheaper, but as someone else pointed out, they don’t claim to be HEPA. These do.

@hchavers Tell us something or sell us something?
@ciabelle @hchavers
Why not both?
Hi The Air In The Winston House!
PARTU… HEPATA… nchhnhggtthh!
@msayler Klaatu barada nikto.
(FIFY)
@msayler The Day The Mirth Stood Still.
@msayler @phendrick I’m pretty sure I said the words right.
@zhicks1987 Basically
Night light – is that a feature or a bug?
@phendrick
Probably.
@phendrick
Bug, if I can’t turn it off. Need darkness to get proper sleep.
@phendrick
Oh yay, a photo on the A page says hold down the button for 3 seconds to turn off the light.

@The_Tim
So if that ratio holds, somewhere there should be a tiny little HEPA filter that has a capacity of a bit over 19 square feet and is free,

OH MY GOD THEY TURNED GLEN INTO SEVERAL TAPERED SMOKESTACKS!!!
The linked “compatible” replacement filters don’t claim to be true HEPA (0.3 micron). That is important for filtering coronavirus.
@phr lol
@phr
The ones I linked claim that cert, albeit at a price close to half of what Meh wants for the hole dam ting.
@phr
And I just noticed that the ones I linked are also linked by Meh, as the second choice there.

The comic sans on the “F R E S H A I R” is amazing.
@owenversteeg It’s ~gotta be a quality machine.
This is what we get for St. Patty’s Day? Does it at least come in green?
The fan logo does look a little like a clover, so there’s that.
@ybmuG color change the light to green!
@ybmuG
Riddle:
Do you know the difference between green beer and vegetarian piss?
No?
Then better stay out of any bar with “Shamrock” in the name.
Does anyone know if I could make this “smart” with a connected plug? It seems like that wouldn’t help, but I don’t know much.

I live fine with one an air purifier but oh boy do I want to buy this one… I guess we (I) will see before 9 PM PST if I pull the trigger
@thekenya Snooze ya lose, VMPoo
Get paid at 5:30 PM today. I want one of these. They will sell out at 5:29, its Murphys Law. haha
@Sugaree1956 Actually, with this being yesterday’s offering, it’s gone already.
