Open letter to Meh
5So here it is a Meh, a screenshot of my loyalty to Meh and you said ew to the likes I give myself? Erase the hate mate or don’t placate erase the slate don’t pontificate must I be a Meh ingrate to demonstrate that self tolerance is ok? Let’s exterminate the trait and rejuvenate the underrate-d dictate that ok I am done fkers… anymore and I might have to get all thesaurus on you but hey what’s with the loathing attitude meh self likes is something to be celebrated on Meh

That’s one topic for you Meh I got 98.6 problems and a 98.3 temperature. Bye Felicia
@sippinndippin 98.6 problems, and this is the one ya gonna put effort into?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ruouttaurmind
Here’s the thing I can’t solve the others easily… most likely involve international coalitions of fellow scientists and big pockets (or at least someone who cares about my opinion) this really gets solved by venting to an anonymous website that doesn’t GAF.
@sippinndippin So when the big issues of life are out of your control, grab onto the smaller things to avoid spinning out.
@ruouttaurmind
Genuinely I don’t know if this is meant to be a sarcastic reply…
Right I absolutely don’t have a problem with that. Many people pray to change the things they can and accept those they cannot.
That seems equivalent here.
/giphy self starrer
If only there was a way to find the threads you starred your own posts, and undo them.
@mike808 been asking for that because I definitely didn’t star myself deliberately.
@duodec @mike808 technically, you can. What I do is on either a desktop or desktop mode on my mobile, I select the box for filtering to only show likes given. When you’re scrolling on your own profile it’ll come up with a little recycling symbol whenever you liked your own post. But you have to make sure you do it within 30 days because anything past 30 days you cannot scroll to.
@duodec @RiotDemon I’m talking precisely about posts I’ve forgotten were self-starred long after 30 days has expired.
There is no way to absolve oneself from such youthful transgressions it seems.
I won’t bring up GDPR if you won’t.
@mike808 you just have to search on Google for the roughly 3000 comments you have. It’ll take no time.
@RiotDemon only 27.
@mike808
@mike808 - if you know what you said or what the topics were, you can use the search tool on the Community page to find them, then un-star them. Admittedly a little time consuming…
What’s wrong with a little self love, anyway? My dog thinks giving himself a “star” is just peachy.
Yeah. I did some of my own when I first started here… not to like my own saying but it made it easier for me to find. Then I realized they kept track. ugh. I tried scrolling back to find them and undo, but couldn’t go back far enough. It only let me go so far. If there’s another way, I’m unaware of it.
@lseeber - If you know the topics or remember what you said, just go into the Community boards and use the Search tool to track down the threads.
@aetris Nah… was a few yrs ago. Don’t remember.
If only there was some kind of Meta search term or keyword to filter for “star-giver’s Meh ID = poster’s Meh ID”, possibly restricted to yourself. Or even better, if you’re in a profile, make the part where it counts your self-starred post be a link to them. Clearly the query has already been done to count them.
@mike808 yeah, I self-starred this post and my OP. Just so I can try out this defect break-fix. I’ll take the karma heat for it until then.
Giving yourself ‘likes’ is ew.
Those who disagree should rebel and ‘like’ every one of their own posts.
You all are a bunch of perverts.
/giphy I’m judging you.
@zachdecker No, just the old argument by a bunch of Meh Star Debaters
Ew.
Do you grow hair on your palms if you star yourself?
@mehcuda67
I think if you don’t star yourself you are automatically castrated
My posts aren’t gonna like themselves. Somebody has to do it.

In support of our past self-likes, here’s a reason:
The algorithm that ranks topics to display on the front page uses stars as at least a portion of weighting. It doesn’t care about the source of such stars.
Now that we shame on self-starring, most of us stopped but I think the pre-shaming-likes are the (D&D reference) wisdom points of certain forum characters.
Yeah, the algorithms made me do it!
@medz Yes any reason not to blame yourself and make it someone else’s fault is good. And now the meh octopus gave you a good reason to blame meh and not even the goat
81 self-likes for snapster, so I feel better about my 27.
