@Fej I'm getting this for father's day to replace my dad's 30 year old cassette tape deck, pre amp, amp, and a 20 year old cd deck. However, in classic ordering-something-online-with-a-deadline style, it isn't supposed to arrive at the earliest until one day late.
@Thorian The HDMI boards were a bad batch, new ones (i.e. post-2012) should not have that problem. Mine went poof some time back and Onkyo repaired it free of charge, even though it was out of warranty
Mine died a couple months ago - no audio or video. Filled out the repair form online (link is posted below) and they send me a pre-paid shipping box. Sent it off to them and they repaired it out-of-warranty for no cost to me. Received it back in working order in 3 days. Gotta give Onkyo credit for that, not every company will own up to a faulty part and fix it for free outside the warranty.
Well shit. I've been wanting a receiver for quite some time. Alas, diapers are expensive as fuck! A sad day indeed. Meh, sell diapers so I can afford a receiver!
@dergreg Take index finger and thumb and squeeze them together on opposite sides of the match at the point where the flame is. That will pause it. To resume, take another implement of glorious fire and place the flame to the same spot.
I'd buy a few of these if I had cash right now. A good receiver is super handy for plugging in things like a fire TV stick, or a garage football theatre.
Oh fuck you meh. You couldn'tve waited two more months before unloading this? Fuck damn I'm only on my second paycheck and still have way too much moving debt to justify this. Arrrageaghaegheaeh. T_T
@bigjonroberts It's already maxed out on flatware and dishware. :( And even after that it'll be maxed out again for a bed. (Thank nature we brought our couch bed.)
@DrunkCat Maxed out you say? Trust your gut on this one. Dont' buy a receiver. In fact, if your credit card is maxed out, you really should stop buying new entirely. Lightly used flatware and mattresses can be had for 1/10th of retail if you buy used. Stay away from the free stuff though. And a lot of people would stay away from the mattress too, but most home furnishings can be found for a pittance if you're willing to shop used.
@p3dal My favorite shady deal so far was for a Queen size bed that turned into a Twin size bed when called, yet priced just the same and with the added "I must get rid of it asap"
I bought a TX-NR808 a few years back. Had repeated issues with the HDMI board. Onkyo finally issued a "silent recall" for affected models across multiple lines over several years. I will never trust this brand again.
@bigjonroberts Could that be the reason I never got mine to work? Mine is a Onyo HT-R370 and I just by-passed the HDMI and wired fiber optic from source to amp.
@p3dal they're crazy then. Not sure about 7.2 vs 5.1 if it's just a residence, but yeah 5.1 is a big difference. A soundbar is still a step up from TV speakers if you don't have the budget/room.
@p3dal Yes, I do. I've got 4 Yamaha NS-M225P's, along with the matching towers and center and then a monoprice 12" sub. So really, I just need 7.1.. but 5 just isn't enough. Sorry. LOL
It's been great so far. Sounds good, HDMI switching (mostly) works well, and I've found the ethernet functionality to be much more useful than I would have expected before buying.
The app is a little janky, but it does work well most of the time.
The only issue I've really had with it at all is that sometimes the HDMI passes through just a small corner of the image to my projector, like a 480p-sized section of the top-left corner of a 1080p image. Switching to another HDMI input and then back again fixes the issue.
@The_Tim Haha I have the same model (albeit I payed $50 or so more for it), and it has been great so far! I've been looking at this as a replacement for a 70's era Kenwood that is starting to get the warbles, so if anyone has any input on either if this is a good option or how to fix the old kenwood i'm all ears.
...tbh I'm pretty satisfied with my $50 craiglist Sony 5.1 receiver, even though it's a couple of years old and doesn't boast features like "four-kay" or even "troo eytch dee".
Would gladly sell that sucker down the river... I mean, uh, catch and release, if this had been, say $150 instead of $180 though.
@trisk Pretty much. Why should I get a system that's already obsolete. I mean, I guess the difference between 5.1 and 7.1 is pretty minor (just two additional side channels). Actually I need to check if the speaker system I'm planning on finishing is made to be 5.1 or 7.1, I think it's the former.
@JazzyJosh my understanding is most movies only support 5.1 anyway so the additional side channels end up being mixed from the front and rear. That said, I waited to buy a 7.1 and never bought a 5.1, so it had some meaning to me also...
@njd you can hook analog outputs to it. They are still a thing. But if you have a record player I would double check for a phono input on this bad boy. Some receivers opt them out to save a few bucks on an amplified input.
@njd@Upallnite Am I missing something? Why not just connect phono input to any of the RCA inputs? Just because it's labeled "BD/DVD" doesn't mean you actually have to connect a BD/DVD. Want to listen to vinyl? Choose the BD/DVD channel and start spinning. Right?
@steelopus Turntables need a special preamp in order to work. In the late 60's, my dad had a preamp that I hooked my guitar into and it sounded like Hendrix! Except, I couldn't play as good as him.
@Upallnite@halnwheels@steelopus@Kyser_Soze Thanks for the comments, I think I'll take a pass on this. A digital receiver is great for everyday use, but as an audiophile I want a proper analog input if I'm going to enjoy the warm, rich sussurus of my cassette tapes
@steelopus Keyser pretty much summed it up. You can buy a cheapie phono preamp from radio shack and then use any other input and it will act the same. Prolly a 20 $ investment. If thats what your in to.
@RedOak I was unsure what your question was exactly. Radio shack? Not really a complete sentance that accuratly described what you needed to know. Many Radio Shacks are still in bussiness and are/will be co branded with Sprint. You can also visit radio shack via the internet. This is something a simple google search could have cleared up any confusion on your part. "New here?" Thus refers to the internet. Since it seems you need to be hand held into answers that you could easily obtain for yourself. Have a great day fellow Meh shopper! Any other questions? I will be right over there. :)
@Upallnite the false condescension is noted. Since you're offering hand holding, please provide the Internet link to the Radio Shack phono preamp. Radio Shack is out of business because they were a poorly run business. There are far better choices for phono preamps... and they are available.
@RedOak if your so sharp and up to date on all the happenings why are you asking us technology challenged people questions on Meh? You should be helping people with their problems using your wit and interwebby skills that a higher power has bestowed on you. Unless you truly are evil and you enjoy toying with us half-wits. I bow to your awesomeness Mr. RedOak.
@Upallnite perhaps that's it. Or perhaps I wasn't the individual who originally offered the advice without knowing if it was accurate. BTW, I wasn't the person who called you a "half-wit" and how do you know whether I am a "Mr."?
@jiltant FYI clicking MEH-FACE does not preclude you from buying an item. It's totally ok to meh that bad boy, before or after you buy it. Honest! :-/ (Sorry about that missed chance on the microcopters....) @alacrity
@bxm83 if it survives I'd also recommend the Auro 3D standard - it's even better for live recorded 3d audio (height layer audio) versus object oriented "manually positioned" soundtracks.
I have two of this models older siblings, living room and bedroom, and a 1k9 in my theater. All three have been great. But I will say the 1k9 used to be a 1k7, thanks for the (not exactly free) upgrade Onkyo!
@dmlivezey if you are past forty something you can't hear what your son hears. I worked too many soundboards at too many concerts and motorcycles didn't help either. By the numbers, wired is way better than Bluetooth. At my age, I can't tell the difference now. Maybe Bluetooth will keep me from tripping over a cable and not break a hip!
@PenguinOnTheRox The way the younger generation listens to all their music with digital downloads and earbuds, it's hard to figure what their acute hearing is doing for them anyway.
@thismyusername yeah, bluetooth suxors! You just need to get one of them FM transmitter deals like kids used to use for CD players in their cars. Makes digital music sound like it's on vinyl.
this deal is really good, but i'm too sleepy to click buy it. I have 5 spare onkyo speakers and a sub laying around garage that needs a receiver... tempting....
Really tempting. I've been an Onkyo fan for many, many years. Just not sure I have anywhere to put it. Then again, I have an Apple TV that's not connected to anything and this has HDMI inputs. Hmmmm...
I woke up too early because I dreamt that somebody was coming after me with a giant tarantula. I looked at this deal again and tireless nasty lemur. I guess I can put it in the den. But now I need speakers.
I have a refurbished Onkyo receiver that I use to power 6.1 outdoor speakers. I'm too lazy to get you the model number, but it's similar enough to tell you this: I was so lazy last winter that I didn't even bring it in from the cold. It's meagerly covered in a poorly sealed plastic box, but the single digit, heavy snowfall winter we had should've killed it. It continues to live. Leaving it out for 3 summers in oppressive heat should've melted the solder. Yet it soldiers on.
All these fancy features, and yet they always come with a crappy power supply. Why in the world is not 240V standard? Even the crappiest computer you can buy supports it. It can't be expensive.
This is so much better than a speaker dock! Not to mention the meh price is so much better than Amazon/woot!. Nice find meh team! Sadly I can't buy this..... My toddler son is infatuated with buttons and specifically any button that will turn on/off sound, lights, images, basically initiate some kind of response. Meh do me a solid and sell me some kind of force field- device-barrier-thingy that will impede my son from accessing all electronics (including but not limited to); cell phones, any remote control, telephone answering machine, cable TV box, blu-ray player, gaming systems, TVs, tablet, PC, microwave oven, refrigerator - ice and water switches, washing machine and dryer controls, dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, and surge protector strips. Bonus points if you find one with a door opener arrestor.
2 months too late. My old Yamaha finally died and I can't stand the built in speakers on the TV. I held out about a week and got another Yamaha from amazon. I got some grief about 5.1 on the new one but seriously who has 7.2 speakers all set up in the house? The few people who have receivers with 7.2 i know only use the front channels and no center.
must be something in the air. went to woot after looking here first and that also have onkyo on sale. wow. coincidence or conspiracy? hmmmmmmm...........
Oh Meh, why must you tempt me so? I came on expecting the usual speaker dock, pocket knife, or some other chotchky, but no, you had to break the monotony, didn't you? Damn you.
Seriously, FWIW, I have an Onkyo receiver now and it's the shizzy. Been excellent and is going strong after several years. Don't be scared!
Tempted at this price but I already own an Onkyo receiver that has been working great for years. (Circuit City close out) They are great devices, no HDMI issues and I just can't justify buying another. Wait. Not true. I can justify any purchase n my head, but my wife on the other hand.... Plus her Birthday is coming up and if a big box shows up for something for me I would need to lawyer up.
This is a great deal. Alas, I'm in the 'not need' category. I made a decision a while ago to simplify my A/V setups and all TVs are now using soundbars and little else. And they sound, if not great, than most certainly good enough.
As such, I have 2 A/V receivers (Pioneer/Onkyo), one Yamaha sub, and more bookshelf and satellite speakers than I care to count, just collecting dust. But there's a LOT less wires and clutter, so that makes me happy.
@benstory trouble is once they hit down in the magic price range these things get sucked up. So it's a perpetual "last years model" cycle with this about as good as it gets. #biasedCEO ;)
Onkyo receievers have HDMI issues and I had one that went to dustbin as well. Would stay clear. Woot is selling somewhat equivalent Sony receiver for cheaper.
I just canceled my VMP last night and I need this. (I'm like that--I renew VMP, cancel VMP, renew VMP,cancel VMP...) My home Onkyo is working wonderfully--it's just old and dusty-it's pre-HDMI. I've been looking for a newer one with some oomph, and this has it! Now, how can I come up with those 185 clams?
I miss my old JVC RX-1001V from the late 80's. It had excellent power, weighed a ton with a big fat power supply, and had a total harmonic distortion of 0.007%. The only reason I got rid of it was because I wanted newer home theater sound processing features. I have gone through an Onkyo, Pioneer Elite, and currently a Harmon Kardon, and none of them had the sweet dynamic power that my old JVC had.
I own this one or one very similar and I can tell you it is very very nice. It works just like how it is supposed to. I think i have had it for five years now and it is great
Getting a backup for the main bluray/amp all in one from Samsung that I don't think will make it another year. I own a 939 old school when they were built well and love the unit!!
Been waiting for a receiver to come up forever, but I have two questions: Does/can this support HDMI 2.2 for 4k 60fps playback? Also, it has WiFi, but no support for AirPlay? So tempted but this would become my primary HT receiver and I'd like to be future-proof for a little while.
@dangtasty HDMI 2.0 supports 4k @ 60fps, which this does. However, it is not HDMI 2.2 which incorporates a copy protection standard. I thought it had airplay but I seem to be mistaken - best bet would be to plug an Apple TV into it for $79 and enjoy the evolving video and app features of that as well. To some degree things like airplay and the apps on receivers become redundant when you have anything better to feed it.
@snapster Thanks for the info, I wasn't sure about 2.0 vs. 2.2 so that helps. I already have the Apple TV setup going, so that's no biggie. I think I'm gonna pass on this though because the wattage isn't as good as others at a similar price from Denon, which I've had great experiences with in the past.
Okay, quick, tell me why I need one of these. I'm serious. My kid is setting up household and plans to buy 2 TVs. Apart from his computer, he has nothing in they way of any kind of electronics. HELP Y'all!
@Teripie I'm pretty sure you just described why you need it. 2 TVs, no other electronics. This would be his other electronics. Though, you'll enjoy it much more if you buy speakers as well.
There's a few minutes left on this and it hasn't sold out. I want this so bad, but I just don't have the cash for it. I have an old pair of VMPS Tower II/R's gathering dust, and that Onkyo would treat them right. @mellowirishgent, this info might be dated, but it used to be high watts would provide a cleaner sound at a lower volume. When you have that volume knob cranked up, it over-drives the amp and you get clipping of the signal and distortion. I thought my post would take longer than that--I still have 42 minutes until the deal's dead.
@Stumpy91 Received mine yesterday. Haven't had time to set it up. Kudos to the meh packaging. The larger protective box was a bit crushed on the corner but the inner box containing the receiver was spotless.
Anyone update firmware yet? The process looks pretty involved from the online advanced manual. Can it be updated over WIFI or does it need wired LAN? TX-NR535 Advanced Manual
@Stumpy91 Onkyo changed their procedure. You need to download firmware on their website and install via USB. If you do it via the receiver/net, you won't get the latest version. Just follow the instructions which you can get on Onkyo's site along with the firmware file.
@Stumpy91 I finally got the firmware updated to the latest by performing a FORCED UPDATE by pressing and holding the USB and ON/STANDBY buttons on the front panel until you will see the message [ENTER] UPDATE on the display window. Press the ENTER button to commence the firmware update.
Mine showed up today. I hooked it up to a pair of Pioneer Andrew Jones bookshelf speakers in the den and it sounds great. I forgot that I sold the Apple TV that I was going to use with it. D'oh! So I hooked it up to the wireless network and tested it with Pandora, played some FM radio, and played from the phone over Bluetooth. The only thing missing is AirPlay. Very happy am I.
I've had problems with the A/V Sync. Several month's ago, the receiver had bad sync that would not be resolved with the adjustment available in the menu. I called Onkyo customer support and he suggested doing a factory reset. That resolved the problem, but is a pain in the ass. last week the a/v sync problem returned but I unplugged/plugged in the receiver AC power and the sync problem was resolved. This morning the sync problem is back but unplugging/plugging in the AC power doesn't help. I haven't tried the factory reset yet. Any mehniacs have any suggestions?

I'm not freaking out about this. I'm going to bed.
Finally, something to use with my speaker docks
Holy fuck, I actually need one of these.. must wait till morning though.
Sometimes I wonder why I keep coming to this place, and then I realize it's because of absolutely random shit like this.
@Fej I hope you don't live on the east coast
@Fej I'm getting this for father's day to replace my dad's 30 year old cassette tape deck, pre amp, amp, and a 20 year old cd deck. However, in classic ordering-something-online-with-a-deadline style, it isn't supposed to arrive at the earliest until one day late.
No baby arm holding the remote?
Was all ready to call it a Wootism. But no, this is shiny, new condition! Not a refurb!
@RedOak But they do have a known issue with HDMI passthrough. One day the HDMI board will poof
@Thorian If this one runs as hot as my older Onkyo, then the entire thing will go poof before its obsolete.
@Thorian Can confirm this, our Onkyo TX-NR870 went poof last week.
@studerc 2/3 of the times diapers are sold, they'll be refurbished...
@studerc Sell baby on the black market!
With a price like that I am tempted to buy and resell. :)
I paused my Fire stick for this?
@nadroj How do you pause matches?
@dergreg Take index finger and thumb and squeeze them together on opposite sides of the match at the point where the flame is. That will pause it. To resume, take another implement of glorious fire and place the flame to the same spot.
I'd buy a few of these if I had cash right now. A good receiver is super handy for plugging in things like a fire TV stick, or a garage football theatre.
Wait, I don't get it… how does this download the MP3s to my iPod?
Oh fuck you meh. You couldn'tve waited two more months before unloading this? Fuck damn I'm only on my second paycheck and still have way too much moving debt to justify this. Arrrageaghaegheaeh. T_T
@DrunkCat just use you meh-azon credit card.
@bigjonroberts It's already maxed out on flatware and dishware. :( And even after that it'll be maxed out again for a bed. (Thank nature we brought our couch bed.)
@bigjonroberts don't you mean.... A-meh-zon?
@p3dal wife just saw a mattress out buy a dumpster yesterday with "BED BUGZ!" spray-painted on it.
@p3dal My favorite shady deal so far was for a Queen size bed that turned into a Twin size bed when called, yet priced just the same and with the added "I must get rid of it asap"
@DrunkCat I would've grabbed that one. Who doesn't need a magical shape shifting bed?!
Nice price if you need one.
@Stallion There you go. Folks should remember - it's a good deal only if you need it and if you can afford it.
No dock, no dice! Try again meh ;)
@thismyusername Bluetooth...
@TCayer Bluetooth mangles music, that is, it makes it sound like crap, no matter your age ;)
@thismyusername Only for Android devices. iOS devices do a great job of audio over Bluetooth.
Baby Arm.
@jqubed Bluetooth Baby Arm
I have one, love it. Great receiver.
oh shucks. almost bought it, if only it had been about $165 cheaper...
@bigjonroberts The bad ones were built between 2009 and 2012, I believe. https://repair.onkyousa.com/na/003_2012.php?country=USA for free repair.
Not that I have the money for this right now (so I hope it comes back!) but what would I need to look for in buying speakers?
@jqubed look for speakers that look like rocks.
@jqubed The best ones come with docks already attached.
@nadroj OMG THAT IS 2 FRIGGEN FUNNY
Neat. I want to want this but I don't.
I got a nice receiver from Amazon a couple of years ago that still works fine, but this one has BLUETOOTH...
@khunjeff I bought a bluetooth adapter for my receiver from MEH for $3!
no 7.2 makes me go 'meh'
@brenden77 Do you really have that many speakers? People look at me like I'm crazy when I insist my 5.1 setup is better than any soundbar.
@p3dal they're crazy then. Not sure about 7.2 vs 5.1 if it's just a residence, but yeah 5.1 is a big difference. A soundbar is still a step up from TV speakers if you don't have the budget/room.

I have a very similar model to this, the TX-NR509, which I bought for a ridiculous price a few years ago on Amazon.
It's been great so far. Sounds good, HDMI switching (mostly) works well, and I've found the ethernet functionality to be much more useful than I would have expected before buying.
The app is a little janky, but it does work well most of the time.

Feel free to ask me any questions you might have.
@The_Tim What's the meaning of life?
@The_Tim should I buy this?
I have a Harmon Kardon 7.1 for my HT but I am thinking about this for my basement or garage. However the price is too high for an impulse buy tonight.
Also, ha ha, you pay amazon tax. I'm sorry...
@Kyser_Soze 42
@mehdaf Yeah, that's one of the downsides of having Amazon right in your back yard.
@mehdaf The tax will come to you to. The tax man sees all. The tax man comes for all.
@The_Tim Does the hdmi switching auto-magically switch to whichever signal is changing, or do I have to switch it manually?
@raive I have a different Onkyo model, but it auto-switches and I believe has a setting where that can be enabled/disabled.
@johnlowen That's all I want out of life. Ordered, and thank you sir.
@Kyser_Soze "42"
@p3dal Whatever do you mean? Of course everybody pays their use tax!
This will go perfect with my rock speakers!
...tbh I'm pretty satisfied with my $50 craiglist Sony 5.1 receiver, even though it's a couple of years old and doesn't boast features like "four-kay"
or even "troo eytch dee".
Would gladly sell that sucker down the river... I mean, uh, catch and release, if this had been, say $150 instead of $180 though.
I am right on the line on buying this. If only this was 7.1 since I already have a used 5.1 system :/
God it even has HDMI and RCA in and Banana pluggable posts.
@JazzyJosh I've never seen someone so excited about RCA in!
That said, also surprised by the number of people here who consider 5.1 a dealbreaker. I guess 7.1 is the only real justification for many to upgrade?
@trisk Pretty much. Why should I get a system that's already obsolete. I mean, I guess the difference between 5.1 and 7.1 is pretty minor (just two additional side channels). Actually I need to check if the speaker system I'm planning on finishing is made to be 5.1 or 7.1, I think it's the former.

How many of these do you guys have in that warehouse of yours? ;D
no 7/1 is the deal breaker for me. I was sooooooo close to breaking my "meh-streak" of 106...
Ooh. I need a new receiver. I don't think I need all of these features though. Can I hook up RCA cables to it or is this thing digital-only?
@njd you can hook analog outputs to it. They are still a thing. But if you have a record player I would double check for a phono input on this bad boy. Some receivers opt them out to save a few bucks on an amplified input.

@steelopus Turntables need a special preamp in order to work. In the late 60's, my dad had a preamp that I hooked my guitar into and it sounded like Hendrix! Except, I couldn't play as good as him.

@Upallnite perhaps that's it. Or perhaps I wasn't the individual who originally offered the advice without knowing if it was accurate. BTW, I wasn't the person who called you a "half-wit" and how do you know whether I am a "Mr."?
Phono Preamp: (Seems to be well-liked and is inexpensive) http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PP999-Phono-Turntable-Pre-Amp/dp/B00025742A
@RedOak my minds blown right now! Thank you internet god/godess.
Well, I... okay, I still can't afford this, but it's pretty hard to click meh on this one, because it looks like a pretty sweet deal.
IM NOT LETTING YOU BREAK MY STREAK OF DISAPPROVAL THOUGH. SUFFER FOR MY FINANCES!
clicks meh button anyways
@jiltant FYI clicking MEH-FACE does not preclude you from buying an item. It's totally ok to meh that bad boy, before or after you buy it. Honest! :-/ (Sorry about that missed chance on the microcopters....) @alacrity
@2palms Oh yes I know. My shame? After I bitched up a storm about the Kershaw knives and meh'd the heck out of them, I bought a second one anyways.
I would buy one of these in a heartbeat if I didn't get a Yamaha RX-V675 for $300 on black friday last year.
@cjrhoades Looks like they just copied my YAMAHA...
This is a really good deal! I would buy it if I didn't already have one.
@chrisi613 how much did you pay, and how long ago?
Needs ATMOS
@Thorian That will be what I wait for to upgrade.
This is a good deal though.
I lied, the other two are 608's. Still a good deal.
I'm really tempted. Coincidentally my receiver died a couple weeks ago--but it was Onkyo and only a couple years old. Hmm.... what to do?!
seems kinda cool
hey you get 2 AAs to recharge
Wow, did you guys coordinate with your pals at woot?
http://www.woot.com/plus/onkyo-home-theater-a-v-receivers
Today's woot: Onkyo 7.2 Home Theater A/V Receivers
NR636: $379.99 (refurb)
NR838: $599.99 (new)
Note that the NR636 is the exact model mentioned at the end of Meh's writeup.
@kasona haha just saw that... was gonna say, HEY ALL YOU WANTING 7.2... woot woot. (although as usual not nearly as good a deal as the one here)
@kasona This does nothing to help me dismiss my conspiracy theory.
@kasona I came here to post the same thing
@kasona I guess I wasn't fast enough to get this comment in :P
My onkyo from woot is still going strong, even though the Bluetooth makes it tempting.
@PenguinOnTheRox bluetooth eats music and spits out noise.
@thismyusername I'm 50-something, my son is 20-something, he thinks bluetooth is crap, I like it, which is the wiser generation?
I have the 515 I bought refurb a few years ago. No problems. Best remote I've ever had.
Buy with confidence.
bought it, hope the rocks sounds sweet with my tweetie bird
Also if anyone was wondering, Onkyo lists Meh as an Authorized Reseller, so they can't use that against you if you have an issue.
All these fancy features, and yet they always come with a crappy power supply. Why in the world is not 240V standard? Even the crappiest computer you can buy supports it. It can't be expensive.
@ParadisePete a 120 volt power supply is not necessarily crappy if your local utility company supplies 120 volts.
Funny how meh and woot have similar products up right now.
@jml326 Someone needs to start a third site called huh.com to cover the full range of emotions.
@mcanavino Don't forget eek.com, grr.com, and wah.com.
@mcanavino I'd go with either bleh or poot
@snapster poot! HAHAHA
@snapster Barney wouldn't like poot.com; only color choice is brown.
Damnit, Meh, this isn't a pocket knife! One of your buyers obviously didn't get the memo.
must be something in the air. went to woot after looking here first and that also have onkyo on sale. wow. coincidence or conspiracy? hmmmmmmm...........
Funny.. Woot is selling this brand today as well. Meh. There were statements of issues with Customer service on the brand.
These are solid receivers, especially for that price point. I'd be super into it if I hadn't recently gotten an open-box Pioneer Elite SC-72 for $200.
Baby Arm...
It was only $50 more on Amazon a couple months ago:
http://camelcamelcamel.com/Onkyo-TX-NR535-5-2-Channel-Network-Receiver/product/B00IQ0SDVY?context=browse
Not sure if a 20-30ish % discount is worth it.
@benstory trouble is once they hit down in the magic price range these things get sucked up. So it's a perpetual "last years model" cycle with this about as good as it gets. #biasedCEO ;)
@benstory Why not? I'd prefer to save 50 bucks.
I have a set of Bose 901s, with the EQ that hooks in through the tape monitor. Hardly any new home theater receivers have one any more...
Onkyo receievers have HDMI issues and I had one that went to dustbin as well. Would stay clear. Woot is selling somewhat equivalent Sony receiver for cheaper.
I just canceled my VMP last night and I need this. (I'm like that--I renew VMP, cancel VMP, renew VMP,cancel VMP...)
My home Onkyo is working wonderfully--it's just old and dusty-it's pre-HDMI. I've been looking for a newer one with some oomph, and this has it! Now, how can I come up with those 185 clams?
@wew sell plasma?
@wew
@wew Go to a preview showing of Magic Mike XXL?
I miss my old JVC RX-1001V from the late 80's. It had excellent power, weighed a ton with a big fat power supply, and had a total harmonic distortion of 0.007%. The only reason I got rid of it was because I wanted newer home theater sound processing features. I have gone through an Onkyo, Pioneer Elite, and currently a Harmon Kardon, and none of them had the sweet dynamic power that my old JVC had.
All those HDMI inputs...
I own this one or one very similar and I can tell you it is very very nice. It works just like how it is supposed to. I think i have had it for five years now and it is great
Wonder what the odds were of both meh and woot selling Onkyo receivers today?
@cinoclav 50-50. Either they do or they don't. Today they do. Math. Boom.
@ACraigL I'm taking the under on tomorrows match :)
@snapster Under where?
I really wish I was in the market for a new reciever, but I have two (slightly) better ones in my house already and nowhere to put a third.
@infornography I'm in the same boat.
@KevinRitchey Can't fit very many receivers in a boat.
@dangtasty From the spec page in case you didn'see: Airplay: Via optional DS-A5
Okay, quick, tell me why I need one of these.
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
hey luke i meh'd for you . bob
Just wondering why you would need two hundred watts? TY in advance
@wew yeah totally jonesing for this but my PigMEHBank doesn't have that many pennies. Been watching the deal all day. :/
@wew TY SIR APPRECIATE THE EDUCATION
@snapster $177k must be in the top five, right?
How do I get costumer service? Can't login and support page says Come back later??
@jalibrandi https://meh.com/support. There is no telephone-based support.
Just arrived, replaced old one, connectivity works great, GF beat me to pairing, meh.
Mine was scheduled to be delivered today but it didn't get to the local post office until this afternoon. Delivery not until tomorrow. 😞
@Stumpy91 Received mine yesterday. Haven't had time to set it up. Kudos to the meh packaging. The larger protective box was a bit crushed on the corner but the inner box containing the receiver was spotless.
@Stumpy91 Mine is still taking up space in my office I need to drive to work to pick it up one day.
Got mine yesterday; works like a boss, no meh at all.
@elbee How do you check the firmware version of the receiver? Instructions say "Go onto Home Menu -> Firmware Update". I don't see it.
Tried to update firmware via USB from a thumb drive and the receiver doesn't recognize the files that I unzipped onto it.
