@DaveInSoCal I’ll bid $19.98 - oh wait I was supposed to bid a higher price. Oops. Actually I’d like to buy some nice speakers but that is a want and not a need. Right now I am living in the need universe. Guess will have to continue relying on tiny speaker docks for sound LOL
Serious question: does an Atmos system improve any sound coming through it, or is it in danger of being an over-priced/useless thing if Atmos never gets a foothold?
Of course it is useful NOW if you have an Atmos receiver. And you can always wire the top speakers as bi-amped if you wanted to, for some inexplicable reason.
@haydesigner It is an extra set of speakers. It doesn’t “improve” sound per se, but just like surround speakers (2.1 vs 5.1, 7.1, etc) it might just make it more enjoyable.
@Pufferfishy Yeah, that’s pretty much what I’ve settled on as well.
I’ve had 5.1 for over ten years, and I think only one of the three living/media rooms I’ve had in that time would see a significant benefit from Atmos.
@thismyusername While your joke is incredibly hilarious, a receiver is often packaged with these cheaper speaker systems. And the center speaker in the small image could be mistaken as a receiver. Just tryin to help a brotha out.
@jdp i actually thought it came with the receiver at first and came back to double check.
I’m gonna stick with my old system. It works great after ten years still since I upgraded some of the speakers.
@jdp
Does it include the amp?
No, Nick, it doesn’t include the amp.
I dunno, Tom…seems expensive.
Seems? Well, this seems to be a waste of my time. THAT is 800 nicker in any shop you’re lucky to find it in, and you’re complaining about 200? What school of finance did you attend? It’s a deal, it’s a steal, it’s the sale of the ****ing century… In fact, **** it, Nick, I think I’ll keep it.
@jdp i find that is the problem with the Meh. offerings of Atmos, you never know if you are going to be able to round out the set.
i think they should sell all things Atmos as an ala carte menu on the same day so we aMeh.rican and Meh.xicn Meh.tizens are in control of our own destiny.

@mikejoe i speak only truth. I could say “this will not cure colon cancer” but i prefer to stay upbeat, and once in awhile they gift us with something that will make a margarita. Not so much with colon cancer.
Worth checking out the CNET Review: “From the black vinyl-wrapped particle board cabinets to the nonremovable satin cloth grilles, the SKS-HT594 system has the sort of low-budget look and feel we associate with cheap home theater-in-a-box systems from back in the day.”
@mwarren to be fair (and it hurts), CNET was evaluating them at $600. Their opinion would likely have been different at the Meh price. Still not buying, however.
Ehhhh…if only I had bought that atmos receiver the last four times it was up… oh well. I guess I’ll have to wait for the receiver to go on sale again. But since i won’t have speakers then…oh my god. It’s a vicious cycle. Good thing I bought one of those crazy Bluetooth balls on here last year.
@everdown Yeah, I’ve been looking for a new home theater system since my previous Onkyo receiver went out. Got real excited until I noticed it’s just the speaker set.
I have this set. I hear music that was lost to me for years.
What sucks is I paid much more for mine. Movies are now filled with previous unheard soundtracks. You will like these.
The best deal from the old Woot! was the SLS Q-Line Silver. A receiver and insanely high quality 5.1 speaker set for $250. A steal that the current Woot! would never offer. I’m hoping Meh will come up with another deal like that one of these days. These Atmos deals aren’t quite there.
After Onkyo’s disasterous handling of their faulty HDMI boards across multiple models that lasted multiple years … I will never trust anything they make again. They are dead to me.
… until another deal of sufficient savings entices me to try them again.
… and this is not it.
Hey meh, I’d love to buy an iPhone 7+ preferably in newish condition for under $300. 32GB is fine. When is the soonest you can make it happen? Next Thanksgiving?
Okay, I might be the only one who checks the map to see how my state ranks with each product, and since mine has the lowest population, I’m usually surprised when it gets even one sale. Today I check and my big ol square is DARK BLUE! This is fascinating. Wyomingites love speaker systems?
Whatever.

Speak up meh-- can you hear us now? ? Sounds like it Atmos…out of this sphere…
The speakers have spoken.
I think these look great! I’ll give you $19.99 for the lot.
@DaveInSoCal If I give you $1 will you give me a set?
@DaveInSoCal I’ll bid $19.98 - oh wait I was supposed to bid a higher price. Oops. Actually I’d like to buy some nice speakers but that is a want and not a need. Right now I am living in the need universe. Guess will have to continue relying on tiny speaker docks for sound LOL
@yakkoTDI @kidzandliz I think that once meh accepts my offer we can work something out. Let’s keep the lines of communication open.
@DaveInSoCal Done.
@yakkoTDI
i’m convinced meh uses atmos products as building material
Arg…!!! I bought your other speakers…and all I need is the center speaker!!! Arrgggg…
Turning it off …
Serious question: does an Atmos system improve any sound coming through it, or is it in danger of being an over-priced/useless thing if Atmos never gets a foothold?
@haydesigner ding ding ding!
Of course it is useful NOW if you have an Atmos receiver. And you can always wire the top speakers as bi-amped if you wanted to, for some inexplicable reason.
@haydesigner If you have a room ideally suited to the arrangement of drivers required it’s pretty amazing.
For the other 99% of us mere mortals it’s complete wank.
Mostly it’s just money in Dolby’s pocket.
@haydesigner It is an extra set of speakers. It doesn’t “improve” sound per se, but just like surround speakers (2.1 vs 5.1, 7.1, etc) it might just make it more enjoyable.

Thanks @Pufferfishy, @ELUNO, @ScottN, @michaelahess… I appreciate the responses!
Ruler should be in all of Meh’s product pictures from now on. I love Ruler.
Base Drop!

In case anyone isn’t paying attention, this does NOT include a receiver. Just speakers.
It also doesn’t include a LG PF1000U Ultra Short Throw LED Home Theater Projector, nor screen.

@snapster, what say yee?
Anyone remember Quadraphonic?
@radi0j0hn the people behind atmos do. Also pepperidge farm remembers
@Beatheistitsfun In Pepperidge Farm’s defense, they are trying to forget.
@radi0j0hn The Who remember
@radi0j0hn I do and got taken by the so called FUTURE IN MUSIC.
none of this will make a margarita.
@alacrity i feel the need to share w you just how depressing seeing you beat this lame joke to death every single day is: Very.
@mikejoe i speak only truth. I could say “this will not cure colon cancer” but i prefer to stay upbeat, and once in awhile they gift us with something that will make a margarita. Not so much with colon cancer.
Besides, your mum thinks its funny.

@alacrity I have to agree with mikejoe - pretty lame
@mikejoe More or less than the AttyVette shit?
@Al_Coholic More.
@alacrity it’s ok. i’ll just have to stop worrying about it and learn to love your bomb
@mikejoe margaritas help with that
@alacrity i love magaritas
@alacrity You have a point.
@Yoda_Daenerys, what about purple margaritas?
@haydesigner i wouldn’t say no

Hmmm. . . . https://www.cnet.com/products/onkyo-sks-ht594/review/
@Odysseus1001 that’s just the detail needed to decode those “random characters” in the SKS-HT594 model number:
@mwarren to be fair (and it hurts), CNET was evaluating them at $600. Their opinion would likely have been different at the Meh price. Still not buying, however.
Where’s the speaker system? It looks like it’s just a set of speakers.
Why would the speakers roll off at 50 kHz?
Does Onkyo got a problem with dogs or bats?
@G1 Because the set comes with a subwoofer?
Ehhhh…if only I had bought that atmos receiver the last four times it was up… oh well. I guess I’ll have to wait for the receiver to go on sale again. But since i won’t have speakers then…oh my god. It’s a vicious cycle. Good thing I bought one of those crazy Bluetooth balls on here last year.
@everdown Yeah, I’ve been looking for a new home theater system since my previous Onkyo receiver went out. Got real excited until I noticed it’s just the speaker set.
@everdown I missed them all too. Bring back the receiver!
@KefkasGhost Aw, hell. I went ahead and got the speakers. I sure hope the receiver pops up soon so I don’t have to resort to eBay…
@everdown same
I really miss my Bose speakers…
And my Ohm’s
And my Son of Ampzilla
And Thoebe
sigh
@rustyh3 I miss the rains down in Africa.
@Pufferfishy You should conspire with Mark_L.
A TotoWho union played through Atmos enabled speakers. Loud and thought evoking.
@accelerator
I have this set. I hear music that was lost to me for years.
What sucks is I paid much more for mine. Movies are now filled with previous unheard soundtracks. You will like these.
What about versus a Bose Acoustimass setup from, um, about 20 years ago?
The best deal from the old Woot! was the SLS Q-Line Silver. A receiver and insanely high quality 5.1 speaker set for $250. A steal that the current Woot! would never offer. I’m hoping Meh will come up with another deal like that one of these days. These Atmos deals aren’t quite there.

bring in some JBL L200 styled speakers and we can talk

GO WYO!
How long does this deal last ? I’m new to this site.
@hueyhog1 The deal switches over at midnight EST. Or daylight savings time, whatever.
@sammydog01 we are currently in EDT
Can we get something else the 99%ers can afford?
Oooo, I like. But I broke. Next time, meh. Next time.
I bought those lightbulbs like two months ago. what do I need these for?
oh no!! :((( I didn’t saw it on time. I really want to buy it, can we have this deal back?
@macche I bought it and was not able to use it, it’s still in the box! lmk if you are interested in buying it.
