Okay, seriously, how do mehmbership cancellations work?
1From the cancellation page:
Following your initial payment to join, your membership is billed at the end of each month of enrollment, so you are using benefits free until your renewal date. You may cancel your membership at any time and we’ll end your benefits and waive your partial-month bill.
And from the agreement page:
Your initial payment activates your membership and begins your enrollment. Your membership will renew automatically month-to-month unless and until you cancel your membership or we terminate it. Subsequent payments are at the end of each month of enrollment. You may deactivate your membership at any time prior to your monthly renewal date. Your benefits will end immediately and we will waive all charges for your partial month of enrollment. Previous monthly charges are non-refundable, including those in which no use of services occurred.
Can someone explain this to me in plain[er] English?
My experience is I’m charged $5.99 immediately and then $5.99 again the last day of that first month.
That means “so you are using benefits free until your renewal date” doesn’t make much sense, nor does “You may deactivate your membership at any time prior to your monthly renewal date. Your benefits will end immediately and we will waive all charges for your partial month of enrollment.”
That is, if I cancel, do I get my $5.99 even if I used the shipping during the month? Only if it’s the 2nd or later month?
The text makes it sound to me like the second $5.99 would come nearly 60 days after the first (“Following your initial payment to join, your membership is billed at the end of each month of enrollment” – so my initial payment is for month 1, then month 2 should be “billed at the end of [that] month”), but that’s not the case.
In any event, until I get my Neanderthal brain around this, I guess I’ll still keep waiting until I buy something, paying for the mehmbership, then cancelling a day or two before the month ends.

I was going to order the towels on SideDeal, realized the VMP 10% doesn’t work, despite being on the limited benefits page, and that was that.
Why I am so stupid? That is brilliant!
@KNmeh7 The VMP coupon doesn’t work on the daily deals at Sidedeal or Morningsave. You need to wait a day or two and see if they’ve put it back up at the same price- then you get to use the coupon.
@sammydog01 @katbyter Then they should put that in the writeup. I blame the goat. Is that how it works?
@katbyter @KNmeh7 I would be OK with you blaming Meh- they’ve had years to specify that and haven’t bothered. But the goat works too.

/giphy blame the goat
@KNmeh7 @sammydog01 probably shouldn’t be looking at anyone who is VMP, paying in perpetuity for no good reason, just to avoid losing something that’s otherwise meaningless except that if you cancel you can’t get it back.
@KNmeh7
Eh, idk. It’s an odd situation. I think they charge you for the next month while the current is still active (on the very last day), so if you cancel you always lose at least some portion of that final day of free shipping. I’ve gotten caught once where I was all, “I’m cancelling now so I don’t forget in a day or two!” and saw a nightly meh item come up after that I probably would’ve bought if shipping wasn’t a new charge.
Oh well. No great loss.
So I guess if I actually were looking for the best deal I’d just make then execute a chargeback every time I get renewed.
That just seems silly, though. Idk.
Yeah, as far as I can tell, the “free” month is creative license. It doesn’t actually work that way, or never has for me, at least.
@yeppers Yeah, I think the wording is really wacky.
… just doesn’t make any sense. What benefits are there other than shipping?
/showme? I guess that’s true – I could get free/showmeby playing the system? But my understanding was that if you ordered something and got shipping you could no longer be refunded, and that’s really the only practical “benefit” I’ve seen. Maybe I have that wrong – maybe I could scam free shipping somehow too?
The bottom line is that, in practical terms, I’m seeing what you’re seeing. I don’t know for sure though and was hoping someone could explain it to Lucy. I mean me.
It’s just 5.99. What’s the big stink? I bought 8 things last month. Paid for itself.
@davidaddor I’m not arguing whether it’s a good deal or not.
I’m trying to understand how it works.
@stinks you pay monthly. You get free shipping. Ez pz. If you cancel, you cancel. I guess I’m confused on what the confusion is myself cause seems just like any other monthly subscription.
@davidaddor
This does not seem to say that clearly.
It looks like, if I’m following, what I hate is, “you are using benefits free until your renewal date”. No I’m not. I paid for it at the end of the previous month. meh might refund it if I don’t use shipping, but that’s not what this says.
@stinks yeah idk. It’s 5.99. I just pay and forget. Good luck on whatever you’ve got going on. Happy Saturday.
The way it works, as far as I’m aware, is if you cancel without buying you get an automatic refund.
Let’s say I subscribe April 7th cause there is finally something I want. I have free shipping now till my renewal date.
It renews on may 7th… I get charged. There is still nothing I want to buy for may. I cancel. Meh automatically credits it back to my card
Its in the faq

Billing & Cancellation
Your initial payment activates your membership and begins your enrollment. Your membership will renew automatically month-to-month unless and until you cancel your membership or we terminate it. Subsequent payments are at the end of each month of enrollment. You may deactivate your membership at any time prior to your monthly renewal date. Your benefits will end immediately and we will waive all charges for your partial month of enrollment. Previous monthly charges are non-refundable, including those in which no use of services occurred.
You understand and acknowledge that your membership will renew automatically without any notice to you, and you authorize us to charge you a monthly membership fee (plus sales tax where appropriate) at the then current rate using any credit card we have on record for you. If all credit cards we have on file for you are declined for payment of your membership fee, your membership will be deactivated. If you provide us with a new card and are successfully charged within 10 business days, your new membership period will be based on the original renewal date and not the date of the successful charge
Okay okay, I thought you just posted the follow-up, but then there just being one follow-up name clued me in.
(That said, I did quote most of what you pasted in here in my original post.)
So, look, tell me how your first post covers, “so you are using benefits free until your renewal date”.
@stinks you get free shipping for a month after your original purchase. If you let it renew you get charged. Then if you find something to buy that’s good. Keep it rolling. If you instead cancel before the end they automatically refund that months fee
@unksol Now take that original purchase away. Same story? (Or can you get your first month refunded if you never use it?)
But yeah, I think what we’re saying is that I did understand it after all, but the text is bewildering.
@stinks idk. Maybe since it must be systematic? If you never used it it’s refunded but… No one would buy it that way so. Never occurred to me to try that
