Ok, 'scientists'... experiment.
10Hey meh,. how about you add a "ship to another user" option? Gifting within the community, you only need the username. Taxes to be paid if appropriate, yadda yadda. You've already figured out that folks will buy garbage, even if you use naughty words. Will they buy garbage and ship it to someone else? Why in God's name would someone do this? Would this end up being total and complete throwaway code because not one person clicks on it? Let's find out!

looks like an endorsement to me...
I like your idea. Next level is crowd funding the purchase of the item for someone else.
I second this idea!
Or like the almighty @snapster suggested, crowd funding. You pitch in $1 and as soon as the cost is reached a random username gets selected to get the product. "Cough up a buck you cheap bastard" - Joe
I like this idea! Sounds fun. So even if you didn't buy that item, you may be surprised when one shows up at your door.
Or a radio button at checkout to add $1 to a fukubukuro pot, which sends a random package to one of the contributors.
I like it!

I feel like I would waste $6 if someone told me that they bought one of these coffee cups before and it was the worst purchase they had ever made. Or, if they said that the mac version is WAY better. Wait... spite.com..?
I hope somebody gifts me some corn dogs.

@marklog
It's probably the most apathetic means of giving a gift I've every seen.
I love this idea! Count me in!
