I really thought that was the case. The first day people started getting them I asked if anyone press play like the instructions said to do and only pete seemed to say "omg theres a video there....it wasnt there before" . Maybe they will come back at some point. lol. .....or open them and unplug the tiny drive.
@msujp Lansing area checking in. Got mine Wednesday. Recorder was blank, but worked. Sort of. Nothing I record saves properly. Maybe you will have better luck? Go State...and stuff.
@JonT is that why mine didn't ship yet? Btw awesome idea. Yeah apparently crappy item. Also wouldn't it be cheaper/longer lasting to record and throw it on a thumb drive? I mean. I still have 128MB thumb drives. And I think one 16 mb one (it may be a Sd card)
@sohmageek it would have and it would have worked, but then we wouldn't be sending videos to people on crappy, weird, off-brand, magnetic, purple/pink video recorders.
@JonT Do you turn off? It seems that you are on at all hours:) Awesome customer service to do that but it seems like you live on the forums and only on the forums (with occasional breaks to do videos again for the forums)
@Pavlov messing this up for you all took a hell of a lot of work on my part. you know how hard it is smuggling in 1000 high power magnets into the meh warehouse?? that place is locked down stronger than my local burger king.
Thanks for the video. Shame all that good comedy was murdered. I got a blank one, and the batteries were DOA, so guessing if anything made it on there, it was lost with the power. Appreciate the effort, nonetheless.
Mm, mine works fairly well (so far). Didn't have anything ON it when I got it, but I'm kind of wondering if the magnet in the back has something to do with that. I could be totally wrong, but yeah. Still very cool. I can record three minutes of something! Yay!
I wasn't surprised mine didn't work, given when it showed up the back was off of it and the batteries were out. Even when I put the batteries in, it didn't work. Replaced with some Meh AAAs and it powered on, but no videos. Thanks for trying.
@Alien88 we knew that was a risk, but @MEHcus made a dozen videos by bouncing them around inside of a Cool Gear Tupperware like crazy and they all stayed intact so we figured it was a relatively low risk.
@JonT wait. @MEHcus put them in record mode. Then tossed them around in a Tupperware? That would result in mehriffic videos. At random points, the 'cameras' would be pointing at each other, creating a kind of infinite loop thing. Or something.
It's volatile memory of some sort. When I got it, the batteries were dead, so I replaced them and nothing. I then recorded, turned it off and on, etc. It was fine until I removed and replaced a battery; then there was nothing on it. So what I'm thinking is this can be an awesome way to send up to three minute-long messages to someone, one use only. Pretty flipping sweet.
@JonT I would've maybe taped them shut. The battery cover was loose on the one I received, dead batteries as well. Y'all put a ton of effort into them. Thanks!
@juststephen we had that idea, but it took @MEHcus and me about 8 hours to unpackage 1,000 of them (they weren't shipped and packaged loose) so we knew taping all of them would delay shipping the Fukobukuros.
@JonT that's an intense learning experience. Now you know how the poor saps feel who have to open up product packages to pull out the manuals and glue updated boilerplate over the cheap-attorney-original-wording.
@JonT I don't think tape would have worked. My suspicion is the batteries are constantly draining to power the volatile memory. So even if the original batteries were good, they were drained during transit. Mine just arrived intact today, but I press power, the blue light came on for a second, and then off. I put fresh batteries in, it powers up and works perfectly. Remove the batteries for a second and any recordings go away. I'm going to see how long these batteries (and my test 4 second recording) last, then we'll know if it's bad batteries or constant drain at fault..
@JonT Like this one... I forgot and I knew there was something I was missing... There was no offending mark, I just know that you worked that much harder on it... Although... I have to say either you gave up by the time you saw mine or realized there was no way in... a hot place... it was going to reach this cold state in tact... But I didn't get any batteries at all? Also what was up with the $.02 in the fanny pack... Was that the equivalent exchange $.01 for a battery... or maybe something weird just happened...
@sohmageek definitely just something weird that happened. I can't say I'm super surprised that while assembling 1,000*+* of these that a few may have slipped through the cracks. But we didn't give up, the videos towards the end were mostly just groaning and noises but they were still there when they shipped.
@JonT I just thought someone was putting their 2 cents in trying to be funny with no batteries. And it's already shown that the memos works for about 3 hours then erases it's self.
@Odi Just as an update, after 2 weeks, mine is still running on the same batteries and my recording is still there. So likely the included batteries were iffy. I haven't tried jostling it around though...
I was super brilliant and funny and strangely sexy in all my videos. And that's the first time in my life I could say any of those things. Damn you @carl669.
@Kidsandliz Mine worked perfectly. Waiting to see if it mysteriously disappears, or if it was all a dream and none were ever actually recorded. Good efforts if it actually went down.
So who takes credit for the txt files on my flash drive? such as.... THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO ADVANCED DUNGEONS & DRAGONS & ALCOHOL THE OBSTINATE GOATS THE AVOCADO OF DEATH THE (MORE OR LESS) COMPLETE GUIDE TO HYGIENE FOR FANTASY ROLE PLAYING GAMES plus more.
there were 10 txt files total and a cheat file for an emulator?... (I think.)
All files were created on April 2nd between 2:55 & 3:06pm
Anyone ever figured out what they were for originally? Just promo items for a service from halo that was never released? I mean they can't be the product... they have no wifi or bluetooth to even talk to the "cloud".
@thismyusername they were (are?) very real. I think it's hilariously ironic that their website was halo2cloudvideo.com and there was no way for their video recorders to send or receive anything to any kind of cloud.
@ditziwt except that this device doesn't show up on their site at all. and the halo2cloudvideo.com url on the front of the unit doesn't seem to exist any longer.
@thismyusername "Halo2cloudvideo" is an in-joke by the manufacturer, involving that "clouds to butts" add-in. When you understand the secret, true product name is Halo2ButtVideo, it will all make sense.
@JonT not saying they are not real, just they don't appear to be a product? Were they made as a promotional item for halo2cloud ... you know like a really fancy advertising keychain, or pen, or koozie... I mean halo2cloud sells chargers and weird scanning mice... not weird video memo pads made out of leftover cellphone cameras and displays ;)
So after scanning the fuko reveal thread, it looks like only 3 people including myself got a message on their halo thingy so far. Wow, that's a lot of videos/work/comedy gold down the Halocloud crapper @JonT !
@JonT When I received my video thingie and it didn't turn on, I took out my multimeter and checked the batteries without removing them: One AAA cell was dead as a doornail and the other one was still within spec but weak. After replacing the batteries the recorder worked ok^H^Hmeh. Well enough that my wife left me a message on it this morning. But I see your trouble: I played the message a few times and the last time I tried the unit got stuck just like yours did in the video. Turned it off and on again, and there was only 1 out of 3 videos left. The other two were gone. Bottom line: A product that can proudly carry the "meh" label!
Mine not only arrived blank, but delightfully broken. Not just an inert brick-- that wouldn't have been any fun. No, this one has some kind of short in the audio and the screen went lopsided. It holds video for one or two plays before it shorts out and resets all the data.
The way this particular unit is malfunctioning has genuinely helped me to understand the fine line between mediocre and garbage.
You can smell the potential... no wait that's the unit shorting out again.
@heygabe meh should feel really bad for this giant fail. The worst part is they knew the videos disappeared and then reshot them hoping there would be a different result. The definition of insanity to the tee
Mine came with the batteries in and the door in place, but it wouldn't power on. I thought that perhaps the dying batteries had enough juice to protect the memory, but not enough to power it up. So I wired up a pair of AA's in parallel with the included AAA's, making sure not to break contact and reset the power. Well, when it powered up there was nothing stored. YMMV, so you might give it a try. Just don't leave it connected for two long or the AAA's may leak.
No videos would play, so I replaced the batteries, recorded three videos, and played them. Today I'm back to no videos saved. This is indeed the precursor to Snapchat, only in purple.
We received two recorders. Neither had a video on it that we could tell after fiddling with them for five minutes. Though my wife inadvertently recorded a video (but I'm pretty sure she had already tried each of the play buttons several times) on hers.
Thank you meh, for this epic and glorious exercise in futility. Seriously. It was sweet of you. And, like I was just saying in another thread, it totally makes me feel at home. Mehsome.
When I go to the website "halo2cloudvideo.com" 8 out of 10 times I get a blank web page. At one point I think I accidentally saved my own web page to the domain but after a few minutes I tried to browse the page and it disappeared.
2 out of 10. Will buy again. Why? I have no idea. You'll post another Fuko and I'll be even MORE disappointed when I have to keep my money and watch a bunch of suckers pay for the privilege of throwing this stuff away. You should be ashamed that you keep letting us buy this garbage even after you tell us we shouldn't! Now...
I just did a Pav with the dot thing. Don't know why! You "kids" are rubbing off on me! lol :)
Meh to the n*th* on the Halo experiment! But thank you guys for your effort.
@YahSah15 it was stressful but really fun! It's a damn shame it didn't work out.
@JonT So many cow jokes wasted. Udder shame.
I really thought that was the case. The first day people started getting them I asked if anyone press play like the instructions said to do and only pete seemed to say "omg theres a video there....it wasnt there before" . Maybe they will come back at some point. lol. .....or open them and unplug the tiny drive.
plus I still havent got my fuko yet in michigan
@msujp Lansing area checking in. Got mine Wednesday. Recorder was blank, but worked. Sort of. Nothing I record saves properly. Maybe you will have better luck? Go State...and stuff.
@ramaiv Lansing also. Got mine on Tuesday.
@msujp Livonia area, got mine last Wednesday. Sadly, no video (or even instructions to press play)
@JonT Good to know it's magnetic...moves it away from hard drive
@TaRDy oh don't worry, the magnet is unbelievably weak. So weak it can't even hold itself up. So much for that "feature".
@JonT Do you turn off? It seems that you are on at all hours:) Awesome customer service to do that but it seems like you live on the forums and only on the forums (with occasional breaks to do videos again for the forums)
@sohmageek I believe that's actually his job - to live on the forums. No?
I blame @carl669.
@Pavlov agreed?
@Pavlov messing this up for you all took a hell of a lot of work on my part. you know how hard it is smuggling in 1000 high power magnets into the meh warehouse?? that place is locked down stronger than my local burger king.
You guys are so amazing! What a great idea. Maybe you could xerox your butts and send that to us instead?
@sammydog01 I don't believe we want to see the butts of the majority of the employees.
@cengland0 this is an assumptive and speculative position you do not have the authority to make.
@cengland0 And @marklog knows from butts.
Thanks for the video. Shame all that good comedy was murdered. I got a blank one, and the batteries were DOA, so guessing if anything made it on there, it was lost with the power. Appreciate the effort, nonetheless.
Cheers, guys.
@ACraigL
Nice try. Cheer up, suckers.
Think @JonT said it the best at the very end...meh. :) glad the reputation remains untarnished.
Now I'm excited to see if mine has a video on it. Hmm... I get it tomorrow.
But, but, but... it's HaloCloudVideo. Maybe they're all in the cloud.
April Fools was on you, I guess?
@KDemo Indeed, seems like the Fukobukuros were mostly unlucky for us.
@JonT - Well, April Fools on both of us, since we didn't get to share the crazy fun.
So much effort obviously went into it--too bad it didn't work. That would have been so much fun to see the different videos.
@Prissy it really really would have been a blast.
I laughed more than once watching this. I guess at your misfortune? Not sure what I should take away from this now. Maybe that I'm a dick?
@Bingo glad you enjoyed it, even if only because of our misfortune.
it was the unlucky bag, ya' know.
@capguncowboy don't we know it...
Aww, and they were purple...
@Barney I like purple.
@cengland0 Me too!
Mm, mine works fairly well (so far). Didn't have anything ON it when I got it, but I'm kind of wondering if the magnet in the back has something to do with that. I could be totally wrong, but yeah. Still very cool. I can record three minutes of something! Yay!
So, maybe HaloCloudVideo really invented snapchat?
@pitamuffin Looks pretty much like it.
@pitamuffin So, you record the video and throw it to the other person from across the room.
@JonT Makes me wonder what FedEx and USPS did to my box, then!
@JonT wait. @MEHcus put them in record mode. Then tossed them around in a Tupperware? That would result in mehriffic videos. At random points, the 'cameras' would be pointing at each other, creating a kind of infinite loop thing. Or something.
@RedOak I'm surprised it didn't create a singularity.
@Alien88
@Alien88 Meh AAAs? was I abducted or something?
@Noddy93 well, rayovacs but... https://meh.com/forum/topics/rayovac-60-pack-aa-or-48-pack-aaa-alkaline-batteries
@ChunkyBitz I don't know that we can be sure yet that it hasn't.
Not you fault You tried and you'll do better next time . Love you guys
@Foxborn It's the fault of @carl669
@Foxborn @cengland0 speaks the truth. see my response to @Pavlov above.
It's volatile memory of some sort. When I got it, the batteries were dead, so I replaced them and nothing. I then recorded, turned it off and on, etc. It was fine until I removed and replaced a battery; then there was nothing on it.

@Charcoalwolfman yeah, we figured out that the videos disappeared when the batteries were removed but we hoped that most of them would arrive safely.
@JonT Although I could not see the video, I thought this was a pretty awesome idea.
@JonT You guys keep saying 1,000 but it says you sold 1,028 Were there supposed to be 28 suckers that got no video on purpose?
@sohmageek Probably just rounding it to the nearest 1000
@cengland0 if I had to shuck 1,028 of them is put 1,000+ if I wanted to round to let people know that there were more. But meh that's me :)
@sohmageek I was upset that I didn't get one, but now I feel special. Thanks!
@sohmageek sorry the lack of a "+" offended you so.
@JonT Wait, so I was supposed to get one and didn't? So I'm just a plain old loser?
@JonT I don't think tape would have worked. My suspicion is the batteries are constantly draining to power the volatile memory. So even if the original batteries were good, they were drained during transit. Mine just arrived intact today, but I press power, the blue light came on for a second, and then off. A thousand different videos TWICE? I love you guys more now than I did before. If that's even possible.
I'll blame it on @carl669.
@juststephen see my response to @Pavlov above.
I was super brilliant and funny and strangely sexy in all my videos. And that's the first time in my life I could say any of those things. Damn you @carl669.
@denboy Videos or it's not true.
@Alien88 I doubt there's any halo video evidence to backup my bold claims. Untruth it shall be then.
@denboy i think enough people have seen your butt. no need to subject more mehricans to it.
@carl669
Hmm mine records for 2 seconds and keeps that - picture only, no audio - but it was blank like I guess most of the others.
So much work, especially when you did it twice!! Better luck next time. Hope at least you had fun doing it even if we didn't get to see it.
@Kidsandliz Mine worked perfectly. Waiting to see if it mysteriously disappears, or if it was all a dream and none were ever actually recorded. Good efforts if it actually went down.
Thank you guys for the effort anyways!

@RogerWilco that's all me, dawg.
@JonT Do you take credit for my totally blank flash drive too?
@MsELizardBeth no, that was all @MEHcus and @hart.
@JonT we did a great job.
@JonT whats the cheat file for?
Anyone ever figured out what they were for originally? Just promo items for a service from halo that was never released? I mean they can't be the product... they have no wifi or bluetooth to even talk to the "cloud".

Between this video and the fact I will be getting my fanny pack eventually, I am satisfied with my experience!
So after scanning the fuko reveal thread, it looks like only 3 people including myself got a message on their halo thingy so far. Wow, that's a lot of videos/work/comedy gold down the Halocloud crapper @JonT !
@bluebeatpete yeah, I would be lying if I said that we were shooting for a 0.03% success rate.
@bluebeatpete thankfully none of those 3 are ones I did - whew!
@snapster I'm still holding out hope that some of yours will show up!
@snapster Ephemeral Messaging + ecommerce wasn't supposed to be so ephemeral?
@JonT Wouldn't that be 0.3% if it were 3 out of 1000? 3% would be 30 and 0.03% would be .3 working videos.
@JonT When I received my video thingie and it didn't turn on, I took out my multimeter and checked the batteries without removing them: One AAA cell was dead as a doornail and the other one was still within spec but weak. @jont I feel kinda lucky - got my own personal @snapster video.
@oppodude oh no! one made it!
@snapster Since most didn't make it, I guess that means you'll still have to give tours of your office.
I'm curious to know what's inside, so I'll tear down mine tomorrow and try to make some nice photos of the insides, unless @harrison beats me to it.
Was anyone suppose to get "one more thing " from one of these missing videos
All in all, a very meh experience. thanks. it was definitely worth it.
Put it on a tree stump. Point. And shoot.
@Fish_Kungfu and record it all on a Halo, now that's a video idea.
My batteries were deader than a @matthew possum head. Therefore, no video.
I can't even find these things on the whole internet! They must have not taken the world by storm...
Put the videos on those flash drives you sent out.
No videos would play, so I replaced the batteries, recorded three videos, and played them. Today I'm back to no videos saved. This is indeed the precursor to Snapchat, only in purple.
I love purple.
@Barney
@juststephen
Mine came with two videos on the same device. The first documents their frustration after they figured out they had to do everything a second time:
And with the other video I was serenaded by a delightful karaoke session, but the batteries died mid-filming and all of the data was lost:
We received two recorders. Neither had a video on it that we could tell after fiddling with them for five minutes. Though my wife inadvertently recorded a video (but I'm pretty sure she had already tried each of the play buttons several times) on hers.
Thank you meh, for this epic and glorious exercise in futility. Seriously. It was sweet of you. And, like I was just saying in another thread, it totally makes me feel at home. Mehsome.

@tgoggin Do you use ghostery and/or adblock plus? I had to disable both to see the content on the site so they both will block it individually.
2 out of 10. Will buy again. Why? I have no idea. You'll post another Fuko and I'll be even MORE disappointed when I have to keep my money and watch a bunch of suckers pay for the privilege of throwing this stuff away. After your Halo video project... I'm scared to try that...
