Odyssey Skyflyer NX repair?
0So I got the nifty quadcopter in $subject from Meh a couple weeks back. Unfortunately I'm still learning how to properly control and lift these things (I might start another topic on that later), so I managed to slam it into a wall and flip it onto the carpet. Now two of my rotors aren't lifting properly after I replaced them -- they spin, but not fast enough (or for some other reason not getting enough lift), so the quadcopter now just wants to flip right on the ground.
The plastic cage around the motor seems to unscrew OK, but the motor appears to be permanently connected to the power -- or is it? When I pull the strut away from the motor it looks like the power wires are trying to stretch. I'm not sure if this is a fixable issue but I can't even get the motor out to check.
I have a feeling there has to be a teardown guide out there, because the thing has reviews all over the place, but maybe it's listed under another brand?

Don't have that model, but a common problem after a carpet crash is fuzz or hair wrapping around the motor shaft. Can you just pop the props off? That's usually the easiest way to clean the shafts.
If you have to pull the motors, they are usually soldered on to the wiring, and the wiring may or may not be soldered to the control board.
@kensey +1. Fuzz, pet hair, carpet fibers... these are pretty common causes for the problem you describe. No guarantee this is what you'll find, but I've had the problem myself on a few occasions.
@djslack So it turned out there were a couple of issues. One, exactly what you said: one of the prop shafts had a truly impressive coil of carpet-hair wound around it so tightly I couldn't see it till I pulled the prop off.
But also it turns out the props counter-rotate on quads! I think I knew this but wasn't thinking about it -- reading a guide to my Cheerson CX-10, there was a bit about how it's very important to replace a broken prop with one of the same orientation. I of course had not done this! So after swapping out the wrong-way prop my Odyssey is back flying again! :)
@kensey Glad to hear you got it sorted out! Welcome back to our addiction!
