O my gawd, it's snowing!
17It was 72 on Monday! It was cold and rainy all day yesterday, and now pouring down unforecast snow. I still don’t have a heater in my house, the dogs and I are huddling around this tabletop torchiere that I am so glad I bought on an end of summer sale (originally $140, paid $40). I have to be out in the valley half an hour before dawn on Saturday to set up an outdoor booth, sit in it from 7am-5pm, and I can’t pack up till after sunset. I’m going to freeze a’death! I sure hope this precipitation ends by tomorrow, I wasn’t planning to put up a tent, and no one will come if its raining or snowing. I live in the desert because I hate being cold. If I have to be cold I might as well live where there are trees. I want my summer back.

Can you cancel if it looks bad? Plead health reasons?
Just cold here. (no, not compared to real cold like in northern states. I am a wimp.)
About 100 miles south (near Waco and Temple) got sleet Tuesday nite tho.
@f00l I can just forfeit my booth fee, but it’s my last event before Christmas, I busted my hump to get stuff done for it. I need every nickel I can get with an unexpected $10k hvac install suddenly dropping in my lap.
Its just a surprise, December’s usually pretty warm, we get what passes for winter in January and February. Snow is still going strong, here’s what my deck looks like.
@moondrake hmmm that is not snow that is merely
a sprinkling of cold white dust. THIS is snow
/image deep deep snow
and this…
@Kidsandliz Yeah, I grew up in Michigan, Illinois, Massacheusetts and Colorado. I left because I don’t like the cold.
@Kidsandliz Agree completely! I think it’s just so humorous…I saw Mississippi was supposed to have 2" of snow last night & they issued a Winter Storm Warning. Around these parts (North Dakota) we just call that Tuesday…
@tohar1 Is that a bull mastiff with a tail?
@lseeber No…Shasta is a 37# Puggle (Pug/Beagle) She thinks she’s big & tough, but she’s just my little “snuggle-puggle”.
@lseeber Bullmastiffs have tails. They aren’t commonly docked. Giant breeds with rigid tails like Danes and Mastiffs sometimes get a condition called “happy tail”, where they repeatedly injure the tail vigorously wagging, to the point it won’t heal and has to be amputated. But it’s not a breed standard.
@moondrake My boss just had the tail of one of his Great Dane’s amputated on Monday. It was all black and cold
@moondrake Ok… I know that we almost bought a bull mastiff pup some yrs ago and mom had a docked tail for whatever reason.
@tohar1 Ah… she’s pretty. Looks so much bigger in that first pic!
Sometimes I miss real snow… then I think about not having to shovel it and grin a little bit.
@moondrake You are having a two dog night?
@Barney Definitely!
@moondrake I your two babies.
@moondrake They’re not warm enough - you need these:
@looseneck They are huddled together for warmth this morning. 41 in here, we were breathing smoke till the sun and space heater started warming the bedroom where we are camped out. The rest of the house was built for the desert and holds onto the cold. They are coming to install the new HVAC on Tuesday, I can’t wait.
@moondrake Poor cold pups and moondrake. I don’t think I could stand being in a house that was only 40 degrees. Peeing must be a torture!
@looseneck @moondrake still have any incandescent bulbs? Put them in the bathroom light fixture(s), turn the light on and close the door; Our powder room would get too warm with a pair of 60 watt bulbs going if the fan was off. And although it won’t help at night when you want it dark, enough incan bulbs will take the edge off the cold if the rooms are not too large.
Kill it before it breeds

It was 70° here earlier this week, 80° last week and 24° last night. No snow tho thank god. Here in south arkansas all we usually get is a dusting and/or a crap ton of ice. People up north can make fun but I lived in Nebraska. Their 16 ft snows don’t compare to 2 ft of sleet and ice in terms of dangerous conditions.
Good luck on your show!! Hope you sell out before noon!
@ivannabc It’s that cold out this morning here? I hadn’t checked yet. Cripes. Guess I need to start digging for my gloves and hat that are in some box somewhere. Also good to know what winter weather is like here too.
@ivannabc Yup… 'bout the same here in Alabama. And it was 23 this morning… supposed to be colder tonight. ugh.
@ivannabc Thanks!
@ivannabc Yeah, folks who live in cold country don’t reckon on the damage done when we get a freeze in climates not meant for it. Not only are our plants and wildlife not built for it, our homes and roads aren’t. They use special heat resistant building materials on our roads which ice up terribly. Our city of 3/4 million owns 1 snowplow, which gets used once or twice every couple of years. People have no idea how to drive on wet, snowy or icy roads. We had an unprecedented 48 hour freeze a few years ago which froze electrical turbines and water pumps, leaving much of the city without services for a week. We lost almost every palm tree in the city, millions in commercial losses as many businesses use them. Untold cacti and wildlife, hundreds, maybe thousands of scarce, hard won trees, including my beloved 40’ shade tree. It was a genuine disaster. Our extreme weather is supposed to be in the summer, not the winter.
@lseeber what part of Alabama? My in-laws live in Hamilton and Guin.
When I lived in northern Idaho I had to cross country ski to work on occasion. While I lived here once the entire city got snowed in for 8 days with hip deep snow and strong winds (so drifts up to the roof).
The apocalypse has come!!! OMG Jackson MS has 8" of snow and it is still falling!!! ROTFLMAO. Too bad I am not there right now. I have a snowblower in storage there that I bought in Idaho that I forgot to sell when I left in 2008 (surprisingly I managed to sell my chains in Jackson). I bet I could sell it in Jackson today!!! That place goes years without any snow. They freak out if there is just a dusting. It would be worth it dealing with impassable roads (no plows that I have ever seen there) just to see the chaos. And to pull my 2 plastic sleds out of storage and take the little ones (18 mo, 3 and 4) sledding.

Meh thought ahead for you with two fantastic deals!
You let yourself down by not buying these. Shame on you.
@EvilTuna31x something went terribly wrong…
Edit: Oh sure I post this and it fixes itself. FML
@jbartus Nope, it’s still terribly wrong.
Nice surprise - we have an actual snowstorm on the Isle of Delmarva. 6-8" expected. Yay, we rarely ever get accumulated snow, especially this early in Dec.
I live in South Central Alabama, five inches and counting!
Tuesday it was 76 degrees, in shorts, tank top, blowing leaves!
Today, Friday, 32 degrees, Winter Storm Warning!
I have lived in Alabama 57 years, some in Northwest Alabama and have never seen this much snow in December. Really no snow in December.
I woke up, walking down the hall, looked out!
SNOW! ALL day long!
Pretty but will not be here long.
My 24 year old son made his FIRST snowman, last measurable snow, he was three weeks old.
Snow was supposed to start at 4am. It is now 751am. I look out on my lawn and see nothing but the leaves I still need to rake.
3-6 inches predicted to start at 6 am this morning! As long as I don’t look in the mirror, no flakes in sight!
@mikibell

Winter storm warning through 4 this afternoon.
@moondrakeep
Are you at the booth, shivering? Do you think anyone will come out? Looks like it’s supposed to get up to the 50’s later. How is the wind?
If you went out, I hope people come out and you get some sales to make it worthwhile.
@f00l
That was for @moondrake, not for @whatever-i-typed.
Or whatever Google keyboard decided I meant to type, and I failed to notice in time.
Sigh.
@f00l Blaming the odd toe co wreck, I see?
There’s a perfectly good scapegoat on this site, y’know!
@f00l I’m out here freezing. It’s warm in the sun, as Texas is wont to be, but my booth it’s in the corner of a building and I lost the sun at 12:10. Been getting steadily colder ever since. Only did about $125, the both was only $25 so not terrible but not great. Got a couple of hours to go, hoping for a few more sales.
@moondrake oh that calla lily tea pot is pretttttttyyyy…
Oh…so glad I live FAR away from TX…too many pretty things!
@mikibell Thanks! It was my first try at a teapot, I’ll make a better one next year. Show ended up pretty good, cleared a little over $250, not bad for a 1 day local show. Got some really uplifting feedback also. Sold one ceramic piece I sure wish I’d gotten a photo of, took it out of the kiln Thursday and it’s sold already with no photos. But it was a nice sale. This group of teens had been having a confab for a while in the corner while I talked with another customer. When I got to them it turned out that one of the girls was wholly in love with the piece and they were pooling their funds so she could buy it. She was so excited, it was very sweet. I wrapped that one really good.
@moondrake what is on the inside of the little bowl/cup with the dragonfly? Is the email we used in the past for neoprene sleeves still good?
@mikibell It’s a tree of life. Kind of a color test run for a big piece I’m going to work on probably this week. I’m still grappling with layering the glazes to achieve the exact result I want. The dragonfly plate and the dragon plate in the photo are successes, the celestial dragon bowl not so much. I live in a constant state of artistic experiment.
I believe the email address of which you speak is still good. Feel free to drop me a test. Make the subject line eye catching, I’m drowning in spam and lack the patience to bail it.
@moondrake I was gonna say how much I like the dragon bowl. I think it’s his face that jumped out at me.
@moondrake Did you make that bear, too? I admire that bear.
@therealjrn Nope, bought that many years ago.
@moondrake That’s one damn fine Christmas bear.
@therealjrn I used to have a huge window office at City Hall. Executive desk, huge credenza, sofa, meeting table with six chairs and floor space to spare. I went all out decorating my office for holidays, the bear was part of my office Christmas decorations.
@moondrake
Lovely things. Wow.

@narfcake You’re not helping Narf…
@therealjrn where is it you go online to re-caption/add captions to these images? Wish I had known how to do that when I was goat.
@Kidsandliz I’ve used this one a little:

@blaineg thanks
We had the nicestest snow here. Well here it snowed and melted but 10 mi north they got about 2 inches on the grass and houses but the roads were clear because it melted, so it made for a really nifty saturday afternoon drive.
From my brother-in-law in San Antonio:
@blaineg try again…
@blaineg
Friday was totally weird, I was driving in almost a total whiteout with 0 accumulation. The air temp was 36 deg.
@cranky1950 weird seems to follow you!
@mikibell Meh a nazi child molester is seriously running for senate, Trump is president. “Weird is”
@cranky1950
Are you still in the South, or have you migrated to snowville yet?
@f00l Still in the South, snowville didn’t happen.
