I once saw a study (back in the days of, “oops I did it again”) that said the most catchy song out there in America is "it’s a small world after all "
You’re welcome. Or thank your government, they gave a lot of good money to allow for that study (long ago forgot how much… But good studies don’t come cheap!)
/youtube it’s a small world after all
@IWUJackson I don’t have to even play it again, just the mention of it brings backed looped deliriums of being trapped in a small boat going in circles and hearing that song sung over and over by thousands of robot children from all lands …
@IWUJackson@stolicat Haha! That happened to me, too! A colleague and I decided to do Disneyland while on a business trip many years ago. Got on one of those boats going through the castle, and after about two minutes my head was about to explode. Then the ride malfunctioned and we were stuck in the boat for about 15 minutes.
The podcast Reply All has a great episode about a guy trying to “scratch that itch” by hearing an old song to get the tune out of his head. It wasn’t as easy as he had hoped.
“A man in California is haunted by the memory of a pop song from his youth. He can remember the lyrics and the melody. But the song itself has vanished, completely scrubbed from the internet.”
If you haven’t discovered the wonderfulness of Reply All, now is the perfect time. I recommend starting with the first episodes and listen in order. But if you’d rather start with some of the best, https://gimletmedia.com/shows/reply-all/posts/getting-started.
@LaVikinga
Okay, I think I like it. I started with the Crime Machine, parts 1 & 2. I was a little confused at first because PJ Vogt sounded EXACTLY like Ira Glass to me lol. Then I went back and started from the beginning. PJ must have had voice coaching or something that turned him into Ira because he sounds more natural in the beginning (if not a little uneven)
I’ve listened to the episodes up to the one about the JennyCam. Boy, that’s some interesting internet history. It really took me back to “in the day”. I remember JennyCam and how it spawned a bunch of other sites heh. Now that we’re all sheltered in our bunkers the cam sites might do a brisk business lately.
@therealjrn Glad you liked it. PJ’s enunciation is a bit sloppy at times. My youngest can’t stand “up-talkers” and so she gives me a bit of grief if she’s around while I’m listening.
Even if an episode topic really doesn’t catch my interest, I’ve found there’s always something I come away with I didn’t know before. The “YesYesNo” episodes can be pretty amusing. “Long Distance, 1 & 2” is a fun adventure into the world of phone scammers from India. “The Snapchat Thief” really opened my eyes to just how dark the internet can be.
Try “On the Inside” if you liked the “Crime Machine” episodes. There are several episodes devoted to an inmate who managed to write a blog for several years.
If it makes you feel better, I clicked on it and my whole family was subjected to it. The wife complained they were singing about hands and only had fins.
The 70’s station on XM plays that stupid Bay City Rollers song, “Saturday Night” and all day long the bridge plays in my head S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT!. Grrrrrrr
Like My Corona?
That one lasts 2 - 6 weeks.
Sesame Street - Mahna Mahna
Ugh!!
@Tadlem43
/youtube Sesame Street - Mahna Mahna
@therealjrn lol Oh goodie! Now I get to hear it in my head for weeks!
@Tadlem43 I loved that song the first 1000 times it went thru my head.
@Tadlem43 shouldn’t it be Mehna Mehna?
@IWUJackson The video says ‘Mahna Mahna’…so… But I thought you were right until I looked it up. lol

@IWUJackson False. It’s Tom’s Diner.
@IWUJackson @stinks great, thanks. Now I have the back beat from Tom’s Diner with the lyrics of It’s A Small World stuck in my head …
@IWUJackson @stolicat It’s a perfect storm.
If it makes you feel any better, I scored an own-goal and had it stuck in my head the rest of the night. And now, reading your comment, it’s back.
What gets stuck in my head from these videos are those lower teeth. No matter how clever the song, that grimacing style always ruins it for me.
Theme from season four of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It is like a parody of every other sitcom theme song.
That’s not a good song and it won’t get stuck in my head.
I’m surprised no one did Never Gonna Give You Up.
/youtube Never Gonna Give You Up
@jst1ofknd You can wash your hands to it!
@jst1ofknd @therealjrn So wrong.
@therealjrn
I just printed 3 copies for the kitchen and bathrooms.
@jst1ofknd @therealjrn I sing this song:

@j2 Oh! @RiotDemon loveslovesloves this song! THANKS FOR POSTING!
@j2 @therealjrn I’m not clicking play. Nuh uh. Not even if @Barney says please.
@RiotDemon Pretty please with purple on it?
@Barney loves purple.
@Barney that was a good counter offer, but no, not even then.
@RiotDemon Drat!
@Barney

@jst1ofknd I didn’t think it was too bad, but maybe I’m just used to it by now.
