@editorkid Wootstalker isn't a bot. It's an aggregate that pulls all the Woot sales onto one easy to view page. It helps go through the hundreds of items they're selling in all their plus deals.
@editorkid CAPTCHAs for BOCs? That's actually a good thing. It gives real humans a chance at buying them. I noticed CAPTCHA on the login page but haven't bought a BOC since July.
@editorkid Crapbots are different than his tracker. Please don't automatically assume they are of the same. Lichme has done more for the Woot Community than many before him. When shirt and derby tracking stopped we convinced him to add all that to his site for the community. He has never plagued Woot.
@editorkid If you outlaw bots, only outlaws will have bots. :-) I agree that meh doesn't really need a tracker at this point. For all we know, they may have an auto-refresh feature during "meh-offs" complete with audio alerts and such.
Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarl. Hi there. Yeah, I added meh to my tracker yesterday, seems to be working well thus far. The purpose for adding it was to let my users know about the great deals at meh. I've bought more non crap items here already than I have at woot, and I wanted to let people know about it.
@lichme I think it's awesome. If it wasn't for wootstalker I would probably have abandoned woot years ago due to the effort required to sort through deals. Nice work (as always)!
@lichme I'm a fan. I finally signed up for alerts after twice missing Canon 50mm lenses off moofi. I missed it a 3rd time, but they literally only sold 1 that time.
Hey, @lichme, I love the Wootstalker apps, but both the one on my phone (Android) and the one I put on my new computer (Windows 8) are acting goofy. I had a really old version of the app on my last computer that I never bothered updating. It worked great, but didn't have some of the newest woot sites. Anyway, are there any known bugs in either of those apps, or would it be helpful if I told you about what they're doing on my end?
@capguncowboy Yeah, I figure, but I don't know if this is the place to discuss them. I've got a pretty long error log thing from an 'unhandled exception' on the windows app. The only issue I have with the Android app is I often get a server error when I try to load it. Usually backing out and reopening fixes it, but today that's been less helpful than usual.
@lichme Okay, well my response above says what's happening in the android app. For Windows, a couple of the issues are as follows: 1. I constantly get the same popups, over and over, for the same items. Has happened once or twice before, before, but it's been constant during the wootoff. 2. Whenever I try to open settings, I get this error: When I click 'details', this is what it says: See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ****** Exception Text ****** System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Value of '0' is not valid for 'Value'. If I click 'apply' it freezes up and won't work until I force it to close. If I choose 'save as default', the window closes and it works relatively well, but the settings aren't ever saved as default. I have to do it over again every time.
@lichme All that to say, I really do like the app and appreciate the work that has gone into it. Also, since this is a brand new computer, I do realize it might be an issue on my end. I just have no idea because it's all greek to me. (And sorry for the wall of text. Replies don't really allow much in the way of formatting.)
Oh wait, I lied about the 'apply' part. I learned not to do it because it caused an issue, but I misremembered this issue. When I click 'apply' it saves it, but then the next item that pops up just stays on constant repeat and there's no way to make it stop popping up without closing the whole app. And, no matter what I do, 'sellout woot' will not stay checked.
@lichme Sorry. I'm too lazy tonight to go looking for proper channels and all. If you want me to email it instead so you don't have to look here again, let me know. Thanks!
@PurplePawprints Windows App should be updated. That issue was is caused by the data feed reverting to old sales. I put a duplicate item check in place to prevent repeat notifications.
Saw that yesterday, too. Nice job @lichme !
liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiich! (@lichme)
I disagree. Can't we keep the bots that have plagued Woot off this site? I see Woot has implemented Captchas for its bags. You people want that here?
@editorkid what makes you think wootstalker is a "bot"? i've always found it just to be a nice tracking site.
@editorkid Wootstalker isn't a bot. It's an aggregate that pulls all the Woot sales onto one easy to view page. It helps go through the hundreds of items they're selling in all their plus deals.

@editorkid Thanks to the stalker, I got some crap yesterday. Don't be jelly, brah.
I knew there'd be pushback and that's fine. Just felt that this should be put out there.

@editorkid I got a BOC yesterday and I don't recall a CAPTCHA.

lol @ bots plagued woot..

@Taco did you say Butts?
@xarous mmmm butts.
@Taco 'mmmm butts'... isn't that a song by Hanson?
@carl669 No that's Chris Hansen, from to Catch a Predator

@DaveInSoCal I'm not surprised. I have no idea what any of it means either.

@JonT so you have pizza for us ?
@ceagee The only thing better than pizza, is free pizza

Omg. Did you know that is by THE @Lichme? fangirls
@lichme good to see the new addition, Thanks!
