what does the graph of new sign ups look like over time?

don’t make me take out my fat pencil again to draw a log graph.

it kinda feels like the group is set and newcomers are sometimes not welcome, or does it bother me more than it should?

well Meh.be that’s because they think they are shopping at bestbuy.com or something, and want to complain about things they should have read

Why do you think new mehmbers are not welcome?
I don’t usually mess with what appears to be new posters too badly, sometimes I am actually nice I am a long time advocate of new posters and have tried with many threads to bring them into the fold. But I think some maybe just the occasional poster, or feel that it is too difficult to break into an established group.

- @mfladd It took me a very long time to start posting and I just now feel like maybe I’m becoming part of the group. With me its a mixture of shyness on my part and what you said about the difficulty of breaking into an established group. I haven’t found many to be rude, mean,or unfriendly but there have been some. Not you though, you’ve always been very sweet to me. I’m glad I persisted. Even if I’m never Miss Popular in the group, I’ve met several wonderful people who are definitely worth knowing.

Remember that forum posters are a subset of a subset of the Meh population. There are lurkers, and then there are people who never even go to the forums.

The only new posters I intentionally am mean to are spammers, especially necroposting spammers. And especially especially repeat offending necroposting spammers. I may occasionally give someone a hard time if they come in with an attitude, I guess. Maybe that’s wrong. But those likely aren’t going to be long term people if they walk in with a chip on their shoulder.

Maybe I should try to be nicer with names I don’t recognize.

- @Yoda_Daenerys Let’s see… How about this: If there were a biological equivalent to the spam necropost, I wouldn’t hesitate to wish it upon them, their children, and their children’s children for generations to come.
  
  Does that make it any clearer?
  
  (Maybe the children part is going a little far. But definitely, I’d wish little worms that enter through their knees and create necrotic tattoos of scummy logos on their faces and necks on the spammers themselves.)

Same thing happened over on Woot in PWA. We were told we didn’t suitably welcome newcomers. But it’s very difficult. You almost have to stop referring to anything that was said or done before.
