Need Advice About Getting Ordained on the Interwebs
10My niece has asked me to perform the ceremony when she and her fiance get married in September. I’ve check our state laws, no obstacle there. I’ve also started looking for a website where I can get ordained. There are lots and lots of choices so I was wondering if anyone has already done this and can suggest a reputable site. Any help will be appreciated!

Universal Life Church
It’s free, and it is legit.
@rockblossom I am ordained through them and performing a ceremony next weekend.
They’re technically already married so I don’t even technically need to be ordained. In some states a notary can do it.
Check your county for rules… Some counties require you to register with them before marrying people.
Yep, Universal Life Church. I know a lot of people ordained through them, myself included.

I’m ordained. I don’t leave the house, though, so there’s that…but if I knew anybody who needed someone to marry them, I could do it.
Thank y’all so much. I’ll look at both of these. I’ve gotten so excited that I want to go ahead and get that part done.
@rockblossum, @pony, @lisaviolet I’m ordained!!!
Thanks again!
Cool!
@therealjrn I couldn’t edit mine as well as you did.
@mehbee Edit? What edit?
@therealjrn Did you really get ordained with the name The real JRN…if so, that is really cool
@mehbee I did. I guess that means I can do internet forum baptisms, weddings and funerals.
@mehbee @therealjrn I read the FAQ. If you don’t use your real name, it doesn’t count.
@mehbee @RiotDemon Which is why I’m pastoring internet forum baptisms, weddings, and funerals only.
@therealjrn And don’t forget Handfastings. You can do InterWebs Handfastings. If those are a Thing. Are those a Thing? If not, maybe you can start a new trend.
@rockblossom Undoubtedly Handfastings are a thing. As a duly internet ordained minister of course I can facilitate internet forum Handfastings.

@therealjrn I used my real name and though y’all are great, I didn’t want to give any hackers or anyone else the ability to use my name. Not that they can do much more than marry someone, but these days you never can be too safe, so I took my last name off.
@mehbee Of course! You should get the real certificate!
@mehbee @therealjrn It looks like a great deal for just $30.
You get parking pass! Wonder if I can park anywhere with that?
Also a press pass!
Maybe I could get into concerts and other events free with that press pass, while parking in any damn parking stall I want to.
If I buy that ‘Letter of Good Standing’, I think even more people will like and trust me!!
@daveinwarsh @mehbee I bet you could take your therapy Wooster on a passenger plane with that letter!
@daveinwarsh @therealjrn what Wooster, I have a peacock!!
@daveinwarsh @mehbee @therealjrn
Wooster:

We finally reveal what was in the Big BOC.
@daveinwarsh @PlacidPenguin @therealjrn Oh yeah, I remember that. I was so jealous cause I wanted the cool Wooster. That’s much better than a peacock.
@mehbee @PlacidPenguin @therealjrn Yeah… Wooster is pretty cool…
Getting a ‘Letter BOC’ was like winning lotto, especially when a woot monkey assisted the unveiling, along with 3 other staff. We all picked buckets of blueberries from my plants later.
Aw man, I wish I’d seen this, as I could have encouraged you to live my dream of becoming ordained by the Church of the the SubGenius. Of course, free is probably better than $35, so you made the right choice.

@mossygreen I might have paid the 35.00, just to be able to say on behalf of me and the Church of the SubGenius…
@mossygreen I know what I’m doing next month.
@mehbee ULC is good. I became ordained and married my friends Bonnie and Fritz 17 years ago. It was free but I bought something for 20 bucks or so just to support them. Since then I’ve done five more weddings including my brother and my sister (not to each other). So far, all six marriages are going strong! I also performed my parents’ renewal of their vows for their 50th anniversary. That was really special.
It’s so sweet that your niece wants you to perform her ceremony. You must be very special to her. I’m sure you’ll find it a moving experience.
@SSteve I am going to buy their package with the certificate and stuff, just to have it. I’m hoping to see more in my future. I think it’s a wonderful thing to be part of a ceremony that way. Luckily this is going to be a very small wedding because she’s just as special to me. I plan on rehearsing what I’m going to say so that if I get emotional, everything will still come out. Oh and thanks for the brother/ sister clarification…lol. My niece calls me her sister mom, instead of sister wife because I’m like her second mom.
What a joke.
@medz Bless you.
@medz Go to … wait now that I’ve been ordained, I need to set a better example. I forgive you.
@mehbee @therealjrn Sorry. I just think it’s silly you need a judge, captain, or ordained minister to do a ceremony. The marriage license paperwork and a couple of witnesses should suffice. The only difference between me and someone “qualified” to perform this service is like $30 to get a piece of paper.
@medz @mehbee @Pooltoywolf Do train conductors have marriage powers on trains?
@medz @PooltoyWolf @therealjrn If not, they should!
@medz @mehbee @therealjrn I have never seen this happen. XD
I’m just happy it’s given me the opportunity to be a part of this special day
@mehbee Have fun! I would never be asked. I’d be like, “So, y’all want to get married? Cool. You’re man and wife now. Shake hands and lets tap that keg.”
@medz They want something really simple and it will be extremely small, but then they are going to have a reception and have everyone else invited. Neither of them like a bunch of attention, but they have no issues tapping the keg!
My niece asked my to officiate as well - I used ULC, did all the research, 100% legit in her state and county. Follow the instructions and you are good. It was one of the thrills of my life that she asked me to do it :)
@opivp99 I’m very touched that she did. What’s even better is that her fiancé, a very good man who loves her dearly, is very shy. He mentioned that he felt comfortable around me, she told him about me being able to get ordained and marry them. She said it was the first time he say, Let’s do it. One of the best compliments I’ve had in my life and I’m glad that he feels comfortable with me. Especially since I think he’s wonderful and worth marrying my niece. Not many men are…lol
@mehbee SOME men are though and you know, that goes both ways… very happy for you (and her)!
@opivp99 Totally goes both ways, you know how it is with baby nieces, no one is good enough
