Coffee:
@connorbush or you can just wait until the Patriots win each week for your free coffee ;)
@mfladd All the more reason for me to happily pay for it.
Coffee. Pay for coffee. Get your mind out of the gutter.
@jaremelz you would never get a free coffee since the Seahawks never win. Get you team out of the gutter.
@mfladd I meant the whole free coffee with the Pats winning, dumbass! That is, if I was ever so unlucky to live on the LEAST coast.
@jaremelz what the hell do you think I was talking about, dumbass x2
@mfladd No one can tell with you, you've got your head so far up your ass it's tough to understand you.
@mfladd Fine, I'll say it. "You were wrong. So fucking wrong". And hey, I forgive you, mflatt.
@jaremelz oops, you missed your timetable to remove your post that was "left in space" Danger, @jaremelz, Danger!

@mfladd Just because you're a deleting chicken shit? I think it just makes you look even more addled. Poor lamb.
@jaremelz you were the one who changed your previous post because of what I wrote - lame lamb.
@mfladd @jaremelz don't make me turn this car around you two!
@carl669

@mfladd Not so. I realized I needed to spell things out very slowly and carefully for you, so I edited so as to avoid confusing you. Didn't help, I see.
@carl669

@jaremelz Btw, "left in space" a play on the title unless you missed that one also. I will sloooow my humor down for you.
@mfladd Really? Oh wow, gee thanks.

@jaremelz Dammit! Imgur editing is temporarily disabled.

@jaremelz @carl669 And may I just say, there is something very, very fucking wrong when carl669 is your moderator! :)
@mfladd Aww, is that what you're blaming? Imgur ate your homework?
@mfladd Dad's gonna be pissed, you broke his meh!
@jaremelz plus the fact you went he-man - seriously?
I was sooo going Skeletor.
@mfladd Oh I'm sure you were. You were really going to get me that time, too, I just know it!
@carl669
Please tell me that this is some improv training session gone awry. There's more than a whiff of "yes, and ..." there. But relentless and funny aren't necessarily the same thing.
@saodell It's ok if we don't entertain you, we do this for ourselves.

@saodell

@mfladd We do resemble that picture.
@dashcloud @jarelmelz and myself apologize for continuing our never ending war on your coffee thread, but it is @sohmageeks fault.
@shrdlu Would you mind telling about your love for coffee ?
@dashcloud I require coffee so that others might live. Is that what you meant?
I prefer to grind my own beans, and I do it just before I make coffee. I don't want or need one of those horrible "here's your one cup of weak coffee in a nice plastic cup" machines (aka Keurig), either. I still use a drip coffee maker, and filtered, chilled water. I don't like the french press, considering it to be the representative of Satan here on earth (and besides, I want my damned coffee HOT, and with no grounds in it).
I'm too lazy, however, to roast my own beans (although I've had friends who did it).
Here's some nice poetry (none is original with me):
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed,
the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning.
It is by caffeine only I set my mind in motion.
There is no such thing as coffee that is too strong,
only people who are too weak.
Beans, beans, the kind you grind, the more you drink, the upper you wind.
@Shrdlu Dune beans? Sweeeeeet!

@Shrdlu Thanks!
@Shrdlu btw, I actually liked that movie, even though many others panned it. The Herbert books were great! (that is a tough book to make into a movie - so much to explain). Even the books had a dictionary in the back so you could keep up with all of the references.
@Shrdlu Have you tried a Chemex? The formerly sweet little girl is now a coffee drinking teenager (one cup every morning helps with the ADD). I am unimpressed by the french press but very reluctant to add another appliance to my kitchen.
@glindagw I had to look it up. For anyone else who is curious, here's Wikipedia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemex_Coffeemaker
I've seen those by Melitta (whose unbleached conical filters are my preferred source), but not for some years. Perhaps they got sued. Dunno. I've had coffee made that way (I just didn't know it had a name). There's a reason that drip coffee makers rule the market; they make better coffee.
The cup of coffee for ADD is a far better solution than the Rx kind, by the way. Less side effects, and it certainly tastes better. I toast her (and you), with my second cup of nice Kona blend.
@glindagw @Shrdlu I've said it before and I'll say it again (and again and again): Aeropress!
@JonT You're wrong, of course.
@Shrdlu I get that a lot.
@Shrdlu I just started using the Melitta six month ago. I love it. And it's really not much work. We already had an electric tea kettle that works fast, so the water is ready in two minutes.
Now, if I could just get my husband to use enough grounds....
@Shrdlu You are so right about the coffee ADD treatment. One cup a morning with no cream or sugar is a much better option. I'm surprised by what a difference it makes (I did a secret decaf experiment to confirm that it didn't just have a placebo effect).
@mfladd separated at birth?
@carl669 I need this as a sign in my kitchen. I might be twitching too much to hang it though. Moar coffee!
I'm disappointed in the quality, but it's the only clip of this scene I could find:
This is one of my favorite episodes.
The sign in my house. Running out of coffee is what we call "tears and blood" time.

@jaremelz I'm a heathen and like my coffee ready when I wake up so I make it the night before. Actually, it's to make sure the coffee maker still works. If it broke, I can still run out and buy another one :)
@looseneck That's just being prepared, you'll do fine in the apocalypse. We use a pour over. Really simple, doesn't take too long, but requires functioning in the morning. Days like today, it seems unnaturally laborious.
@jaremelz we have at least one of those up on our walls from #Seligman!
839,972 Pounds Roasted Daily - Arbuckles' Coffee

These folks claim they "initiated" bulk roasting and selling packaged of coffee. Prior to that we bought green beans and roasted them ourselves. (From their 1864 to present history)

@Shrdlu thought you'd find it interesting since you draw the line at "roasting your own."
Our family found that pic in a long ago departed relative's collection. We thought the similarity of the name to another coffee roaster's name was interesting, if not really coincidental.
Look at you sad sacks getting all excited because you think there's one day a year that's coffee day.
@editorkid Every day is "Coffee Day"! Yummm.
@shrdlu @jont I've arranged to borrow an Aeropress, a ceramic coffee dripper & a Chemex this weekend. We'll do a taste test with those & the French Press. Espresso is the closest that I come to black coffee so she'll have to make the choice. I did snag a grinder from my Mom.
@glindagw I still have a late-70's "Mr. Coffee Non-Electric," which is basically a plastic tub on top of a plastic carafe. It's really a French Drip. Put the paper filter in the tub, add coffee and (this is the smart part) insert a heavy plastic disk that does not allow the grinds to rise! Ugly as sin, but makes some of the best coffee ever.
bump because I just made a sweet iced coffee with my aeropress, shout out to @JonT
@Lotsofgoats
My husband and I both dislike coffee. For me, I'm already a very anxious person so I hate the way coffee (caffeine) makes me feel. I don't care for the taste either, and Starbucks drinks are basically high calorie desserts with coffee in them. I'd rather have a cookie.
Out of disdain for you coffee drinkers,I will take that free cup and throw it on the ground in front of you.
"Pump that garbage in another mans veins!"
@ABitterWoman agreed that starbucks trash drinks are trash. 5% coffee and 95% whipped cream probs means you like whipped cream, not coffee.
you ever go with tea? it's got about a quarter of the caffeine and it's full of stuff that's great for you and make you sound super smart like polyphenols and stuff.
@Lotsofgoats I drink green tea every day, though I really should up my water intake. I used to drink soft drinks daily until I fully realized how much sugar is in them and how bad they are for your teeth. I still drink them every now and then but it's mostly tea for me nowadays.
@ABitterWoman tea is good for your teeth because it has trace levels of fluoride, woo! if you use bags I definitely recommend upgrading to loose tea (or at least pyramid bags, which are a huge improvement over the paper ones). it's actually surprisingly affordable and the difference in quality and health benefits is immense.
@Lotsofgoats Interesting. I'll have to check that out. Currently, I do use just regular bags. Thanks!
@ABitterWoman I recommend using an in-mug infuser like this because tea balls and super cutesy infusers are often too small to get a good infusion. surface area is key here.
I tend to get leaves from adagio (simple with a nice layout) or Upton Tea Imports (not simple with an outdated layout but a huuuuuge selection).
@ABitterWoman
I see why you're bitter.
@editorkid
Snarl
I like coffee. (Black)
I like tea. (Green)
I'm not the aficionado @Lotsofgoats is. But experience taught me to detest mass-market green tea. Not a fair way to sample it. I'm also cheap and have settled on the Japanese Green Tea Costco imports from its Costco-Japan distribution channel.
@RedOak mass market tea is literally what you get when you pick out the top tea and the good tea and the okay tea and the fair tea from the final processed leaves. it is literally bits and pieces of tea dust that, had the tea bag never been invented (a better world tbh), would be thrown away.
Got me a Staresso, a small (and pretty cheap) hand-pump non-electric espresso maker done by some guy who designed it in China! Still have my big machine, but this thing is just so clever! This is NOT an Aeropress knock off. And this is not an ad. I just like it an appreciate innovation.
@radiojohn Portaspresso. ROK. Handpresso. Minipresso. Not trying to be a downer, but, is there innovation, per se?
Brace Yourself
I got this as a gift for a coffee-loving person I know, and they seemed to be happy with it:
Manual Coffeemaker Nº1
