Back in my Apple //GS days, there was an awesome icon editor that let you edit the system icons, and associate all kinds of features and effects. My trash can became a 'SimCity' like empty field. As files were discarded, buildings, and eventually a skyscraper cityscape appeared.
The best part: when you emptied the trash, the city disappeared in a nuclear blast accompanied by appropriate sound effects, leaving in the end nothing but an empty field. And it was green! No need for landfills ;)
But now... we need true skeuomorphism in our icons. Detailed! Accurate! Pixel by pixel in Retina granularity... exactly how much waste is in the can. Nothing less will do.
It bothered me more than it should, so I took the icon off the desktop. In fact, I have no icons at all on my desktop other than on the task bar. I'm kinda OCD about my "clean desk". I hope Win10 doesn't mess with that.
Speaking of Icons and bothering me more than it should. In Linux, (and Win10) there is multiple desktops, but the desktop icons stay on all the desktops. I wanted to make a game desktop, a video editing desktop, a bill paying desktop with the appropriate icons and wall paper. BUT NOOOooooo! When I go to pay bills 3 hours later my Simcity has a nice new neighborhood.
Irk sounds like he has a sore throat.
@Collin1000 Or like he took up smoking and aged a couple decades.
Shift + delete
Don't put it in the trash, just burn it all to the ground!
@tjfrit01 I always shift+delete.. Even on my main computer which is set to never use the trash bin, I still shift+delete.
@tjfrit01 Yup. Problem solved.

Heh... it sounds like Irk should work for the Windows 10 test team. That rant would have made an awesome feedback report!
You're not alone Irk, your not alone.
I know their are grammar police people who are having they're minds blown. They're, there grammar police, calm down.
@monkeyscrew that would be their grammar police. I, personally, do not recognize them as having an official capacity unless I am grading papers.

@caffeine_dude depends on your Linux distro I guess.. I haven't seen this behavior.
@caffeine_dude KDE has an Activities feature that might be what you want, if virtual desktops isn't cutting it for you.
Dearest Irk,
Even if there's only one thing in the trash bin, you should empty the bin when the contents start to smell. Honestly, perhaps even sooner.
Love,
Nads
