Did you know this is a Melitta Aroma Signature Therm? See It.
I bought it last time, it probably makes great coffee but have not tried yet. Very lightly made, do not drop it, but it is $50 not $300 like a Technivorm. So I am happy.
@ggrochr I handled a lot of technivorm machines because of my job and I don’t think this machine feels any “lighter.” Obviously it’s a technivorm knockoff and I bet it doesn’t have the internals that technivorm brags about like copper heating element and glass tube. But I’m very happy with this coffee maker.
Is this good if you only want one cup in the morning? I don’t drink a lot of coffee and I’m looking for something that’s less involved than a french press?
@Yamtaggler
I have an aeropress that I really like. At its most, it will make 8oz coffee. But it makes damn good coffee. It is manual, though. So I don’t know if it fits your criteria.
@Yamtaggler I bought this last month and use it every day whether I’m making 1 cup or a whole pot. It is the same as doing a pourover so you’ll use the same filter etc. It’s more convenient because you can just push the button and walk away and come back when it beeps that it’s done.
One downside to this, the showerhead is pretty centralized and doesn’t do a decent job of soaking the grounds at the edge. I’m going to get a sheet of stainless and play around with making a disk to sit in the cone and spread the water better. Should be an easy fix.
Over all, this is probably the best coffee maker I’ve owned and I’ve had a lot.
@tweezak@Yamtaggler I used two coffee filters yesterday to see if that would help–it did retain more water in the basket. I wonder how my friend @ybmuG is getting along with his machine?
@therealjrn@Yamtaggler I’m a cup a day person too and cold brew works really well for me. You can make it and leave it in the fridge for days they say. I warm it up in the microwave. And apparently the coffee snobs give it a thumbs up.
@therealjrn@Yamtaggler@ybmuG I hate to burn through filters that fast but I have a hemp filter and also a mesh filter. I’ll try combinations of those with the regular no.4 paper and see what kind of difference it makes. There is an overflow tube in case the water gets too restricted.
@therealjrn@tweezak@Yamtaggler It works great. Maybe it’s just psychosomatic, but I feel like the coffee is smoother with it. We buy whole beans from a local roaster so they are pretty fresh to begin with. And the higher brew temp is definitely better. The carafe keeps it drinkably hot way longer than it would be drinkable if it was a regular pot on a burner.
And if you are comparing to something like a Bunn with a thermal carafe (which we were considering), the clear reservoir is a lot more convenient than you would think. Say you want to make something less than a pot. With a Bunn, you would have to know how many oz and use a measuring cup. Not a big deal, mind you, but with this one, you can quickly see how much water you have put in, even if you were using a flower pot to pour in the water (not that I would suggest that…)
It is also quite fast. We’ve been using Bunn home brewers for a long time and have gotten used to their 3-5 min brew times. But they do have to keep a whole pot of water constantly hot and the down-time between pots is a good 12-15 min. So if you have a number of people over and you are making a few pots back to back, the 7-8 min brew times really beat that.
The only thing I have to be careful about is to place the basket in first and then the pot. If you go the other way, sometimes you can get it misaligned and the coffee either doesn’t go into the pot or it holds in the basket and runs over the top. Once was enough to alter our procedure - it won’t happen again.
As to button issues or any of the other things I have seen folks talk about, we’ve had nothing like that. All in all I’d say well worth the $50. Tempted to get another, poss for a gift.
I have a normal cuisinart drip and one of those pod things from illi. is thiss worth it? I always buy chemex when i’m at a cafe that sells it. is that what this is? pourover?
I bought this last month (same price, thankfully, I hate it when you put it back up for less), but haven’t used it yet. It looks very nice sitting there in it’s box …
I bought one… I LOVE IT!!! The only down side, is no Timer. I can hook it up to one. Still haven’t, but It is Fast, and the coffee is NICE AND HOT!!! Makes Great Coffee. No regrets!!!
Just Bought another, May make it a gift. I thought this one would be large, but it takes less space on counter than last Mr> Leaky Coffee… This is a Great Buy… IMO
I bought one of these last time. I’m surprised to report that it really does make significantly better coffee than a referral regular drip pot.
Do be aware the build quality on the buttons is astonishingly bad for an otherwise nice machine. Mine have been off kilter and somewhat pressed in since the first use.
It does still work, and I think the quality of the coffee it produces makes it worth ignoring the button weirdness.
@Seeds If the buttons are still giving you issues, get in touch with customer service. Read my post. I’d be surprised if they didn’t send you out a new machine.
@Seeds I thought I had an issue with buttons but someone in the thread for the first offer of these machines posted up with a picture showing where you should press. I was pressing on the light when you should actually press just to the side of the light. Since then…0 complaints. Buttons are light and work well.
I replaced a Mr Coffee drip, and while I guess the coffee tastes better, I wasn’t blown away with an explosion of difference. I see someone else commented on the button quality already, and I have to echo that sentiment as well. And my start/stop brew cycle beeper stopped working after the first week.
I bought this from Meh last month when it was the deal. It does make incredibly good coffee. As stated in other comments, the button build is very bad. It did work and made great coffee. But you had to be patient with the buttons. However, I read some reviews on Amazon that said the Customer Service was great. THAT IS TRUE. I got in touch with customer service about the buttons on my coffee maker. They responded quickly and asked me to fill out an insanely simple warranty form. They sent me out a new coffee maker. The whole process took less than 2 days (+shipping time). AND they told me to keep my original coffee maker rather than send it back. Very happy I bought this!
Full disclosure: I’m not a coffee snob, just a poet who enjoys a strong cup of joe.
Bought one last time and love it. Bought two more today, one for a gift and one as a ready spare. Here’s why:
Everything that comes off is dishwasher-safe, even the thermal carafe. (It does collect a little water in the annulus but it drains out easily.)
The cone is a branded Melitta #4 so if you use Melittas for a random cup at odd times you already know how to eyeball how much coffee to use.
There is no blast of steam out the back at the end of cycle so the finish of your cabinet above isn’t damaged.
No unpleasant odors during the break-in period. I ran two pots of water through it and couldn’t detect any “hot plastic” odors. My last coffee pot added plastic-y flavors for a month or more.
@BillThePoet@therealjrn That’s what they call there them modern poetrys. Don’t rhyme, talk about stuff like coffee, use words like “plastic-y”. It’s deepness is in its lack of depth.
@squishybrain@therealjrn@ybmuG There once was a poet from Nantucket
He bought a Motif and he loved it
His ex with a snore
Said I’ve seen it before
He’ll brew a rose’ and then fuck it
I make just two cups of coffee each day with a gooseneck pot and two cup-top pour-over thingies with paper filters. Would this be overkill? Also, is the temperature adjustable for different roasts? Not a coffee snob, but definitely a coffee geek.
@Jonas4321 Not overkill for under fifty bucks. It doesn’t take up a ton of room on the countertop so it would be handy to keep around for those times you need to make more than a couple of cups. And who knows, you might like the convenience and flavor better than your pour-over.
You can’t adjust the temp but the consensus is that it makes pretty good coffee.
@squishybrain Thanks. Unless I read the owner manual incorrectly, it seems like this uses whatever water is in the tank for each brew, right? So if I want 2 cups, I put in that much water, correct?
@Cerridwyn Thanks, I checked that one out. Not sure what you meant by “better related”, but I assume you meant better rated. Gotta disagree - this Motif has 45% 5-star and 9% 1-star, while your recommended Bonavita has 47% 5-star and 12% 1-star (plus an additional 10% 2-star). The negative reviews are all that I pay attention to and the Bonavita has several show-stopping trends in their 1-star reviews including stopping working after a short time. I appreciate the suggestion, I went with the Motif here. We’ll see!
As others have commented, this makes an excellent cup of coffee. I bought here last month, and I’m pleased. Yes, buttons are wonky, but it works really well.
I love my coffee maker (got it when it was a kickstarter - called duo - and it is similar to a french press but so so much easier and filters out all the grounds) but it really is only enough for just me. We just got a new house and I have a feeling there will be times when I want more coffee than just a largeish single cup…
I bought one of these back on July 12. My bad.
Bezel falls off of wobbly on/off switch. Warranty claim was approved. Replacement hasn’t shipped, and emails to customer support go unanswered.
Pot is hard to clean and must be positioned carefully.
On the plus side, it makes good coffee.
There are other coffeemakers that are easier to use (and to clean) day-to-day.
This brewer gets a 5 for performance, a 3 for design, and a 1 for customer service.
@allergycheryl It makes coffee so fast, it’s hardly a bother to wait for the pot to finish. We replaced our timer-equipped coffee maker with this one and don’t even care as we start the cycle, give our cats some canned food and by the time we’re done feeding them, coffee is done. Takes just over two minutes to brew 2/3rds of a pot.
Very happy with mine. I only use it weekends, so the carafe does an excellent job keeping the joe hot when I am just too lazy to get out of my chair for several hours.
I love how everyone now uses “pour over” where “drip” is more accurate. Pour over is a manual process. BTW, I have a 1979 “Mr. Coffee Non-Electric” so I am obviously an expert.
My coffee-addicted mother in law says she loves hers, but she was using a Mr. Coffee bargain basement model that had a bad burner under the pot and never got up to proper brewing temperature, so anything probably would get a similar review.
She particularly liked it with the Woot birthday coffee, just to mix this up a bit
I drink coffee to stay awake. I hate the bitter taste of it. This machine changed my caffeinated life. It totally takes the “bitter” taste out of coffee. It’s so smooth and actually enjoyable to me now.
My order seems to have fallen off the truck somewhere. Anyone else waiting for delivery? The original carrier says it was handed off to USPS with an estimated delivery date of 8/21, USPS shows nothing.
@enville Never-mind, it showed up this morning. It must be that top-notch USPS tracking system. Someone finally swiped their fingers on the forest floor and said “it’s close”.
Totally love my new coffee maker, coffee better than Starbucks from Maxwell House. It lists for $189, sells on Amazon for $99.99, never would have paid that much for it on a gamble. Meh price was a total steal !!! Best coffee maker I’ve ever had !!! I’ve been ordering from Meh for about 3 years now and I love everything I’ve bought from them, never a problem !!! If there was a rating system here, I’d give the Motif 5 stars out of 5. Again, incredible product at a fantastic price !!!
I bought this thing because I’m a MEH addict. The unopened box looks great on top of my basement freezer next to the unopened air fryer from this week.
This is a great product. $40 less than the Amazon price! Mine makes great coffee, very hot. The flavor is extracted very well with the “pour over” option. Almost tempted to retire my Chemex!
Now that I have had my Motif coffee maker for a few weeks and have made a bunch of coffee, here are my findings:
Well worth the price paid
Good quality materials including the insulated carafe - I was surprised how well everything fits together for the price
Works exactly as described, including the funky way the buttons work and the “bloom” function for freshly roasted coffee
Making 2 mugs (water to the 4 cups line) makes really good strength coffee using proportionally the same amount of grounds I would have used with a pour-over for two individual mugs, but if I am making just one mug in this thing, I need to use a bit more coffee than I would for just one mug with a pour-over mug-top funnel
I like my mugs pre-heated so they don’t cool down the coffee, so I run 4 cups of water through the device without grounds, this not only pre-heats the carafe, but I can then pour the hot water into the mugs to pre-heat them. Overall less work than pre-heating mugs with my gooseneck kettle (that has now been retired)
If you appreciate pour-over coffee and are doing the extra work to make it, this device should be on your radar.
@dagirlgenius that’s strange. They were very responsive (like within a couple hours) when I had an issue, but that was right after I had purchased it and it was pre-COVID. I’d keep on them. I believe Williams Sonoma sells them. They may be able to help.

@thechilipepper0 I don’t mind manual brewing solutions. I’ll look into Aeropress, thanks!
@Yamtaggler It’s overkill for just one cup. I make 1/2 pot (16oz) sometimes but less than that I don’t think it would be worth it.

@donrull perhaps the metal carafe?

Takes just over two minutes to brew 2/3rds of a pot.
French press broke yesterday. The Meh gods sure know how to make a sale.

love love love mine from last time.
Very happy with mine. I only use it weekends, so the carafe does an excellent job keeping the joe hot when I am just too lazy to get out of my chair for several hours.
Yup. This is a real bargain.

Too many people said how great these are. I am counting on all of you being correct.

Will you refund $100 since I paid $150 for the same one that I bought from you?
Hopefully Meh will offer this when my Bunn coffee maker dies.
I love how everyone now uses “pour over” where “drip” is more accurate. Pour over is a manual process. BTW, I have a 1979 “Mr. Coffee Non-Electric” so I am obviously an expert.
@radi0j0hn Yeah, “pour over” sounds so precious, doesn’t it? I guess we’re coffee snob douchebags now!
@dagirlgenius We’re not worthy!
Ken
PS, finally a coffee maker that makes hot coffee instead of lukewarm !!!
If you appreciate pour-over coffee and are doing the extra work to make it, this device should be on your radar.
Anyone know where you can get a replacement thermal carafe? Tried contacting the company via email and phone… crickets.
@dagirlgenius that’s strange. They were very responsive (like within a couple hours) when I had an issue, but that was right after I had purchased it and it was pre-COVID. I’d keep on them. I believe Williams Sonoma sells them. They may be able to help.
@ybmuG Thank you! I will. Have a great holiday weekend!
@dagirlgenius thanks, you too!
@dagirlgenius Did you ever find a replacement thermal karaf? Mine just broke
