@Kyeh Functional buses? From what little I have heard from folks in the area (mostly at least as far out as Riverside and Westminster), buses that serve the needs of a typical commuter are not found in most of the LA basin. Yes, large mobile traffic obstacles prey on the nonfreeway commuters’ sanity, but their true purpose seems unrelated to transit, and remains a matter of debate.
That about sums it up yes. Since they’re way more cars down here though there are drivers. There have been attempts, bad attempts, they did these bustling things to try to I don’t know what they were trying to do and all they did was piss everybody off because now the replaces where you couldn’t get to some place directly across the street without going to blocks away. Made me think I was in New Jersey, Newark to be specific
In Houston, the most annoying thing is that most of the city is faster to reach on a bicycle than via the bus system. Of course, being visible on a bike within ramming distance of the pickup trucks and distracted Beamer jockeys is very nearly attempted sucde.
@werehatrack long time ago I was there for work, lived in temp apartment so I knew the area (SW)
Came back for a few weeks in a motorhome and stayed at an RV park. While I was working my wife wanted to explore shopping (?) which led to long walks on the frontage roads (you know the 1-directional ones). I tried to explain you just do not DO that on highways in Houston. We had our Jeep she could use… Anyway she did fine and enjoyed the walk, which seems hard to believe. I’m sure at least a few guys in pickup trucks stopped to ask her if she needed help or wanted a ride.
Someone tries to pick a fight with you for scuffing their shoes when passing by in the aisle. I’m still somewhat put off by that experience. Note that this has a lot to do with where the bus is going – I got on the wrong bus and very quickly found that it was going to a bad part of L.A. I ended up walking five miles out of that section of town when I determined that there wasn’t a direct bus route going anywhere near my home. It was a lot faster than waiting around for all the bus connections that getting home via bus would have required.
@olperfesser In North Dakota, every person starts life with at least one vehicle, and then we accumulate them as we age. Most people have 3 or 4, some significantly more. Why would a person take a bus when you’ve got vehicles to drive?
@ItalianScallion@kuoh you could have stations (not stops). Have open top on transport and slide in. Just have to make sure get timing right. Deboarding you jump.out the door onto a trampoline.
You know, I occasionally hit a traffic jam coming down the stairs. Sometimes Charliedoggo really has to potty and doesn’t wait for me to get to the bottom. Collisions have ensued!!!
The Public.
Waiting for it to show up.
Southern California Girl. What the hell is a public transit commute?
@Cerridwyn They don’t have busses there?
@Cerridwyn @Kyeh It gets a little more complicated in that part of the country.

Smells.

Weird talkative person sits next to you.
I hate carpooling with family, too.
The service cuts because people who don’t live in the economic powerhouse want to FAFO when they try kill SEPTA.
Between the foil smokers and the hygiene-challenged, weirdly talkative is almost quaint.
/youtube Another one rides the bus

What is public transportation? Those of us who do not live in a city don’t have that.
@olperfesser
Not sure where you might have been a professor, but surely, at some point, you were exposed to the concept.
@olperfesser In North Dakota, every person starts life with at least one vehicle, and then we accumulate them as we age. Most people have 3 or 4, some significantly more. Why would a person take a bus when you’ve got vehicles to drive?
@olperfesser @tohar1 Also back then there was probably room to park a few non-working ones in the yard, just waiting for a “quick fix”
Also the snowmobile alternative some times of year?
Who turned on the sarcasm filter? Cuz people don’t seem to be getting it
Someone places a bomb on the bus that explodes if you go under 55mph.
@OnionSoup Imagine how efficient the routes would become if that were actually the case.
KuoH
@kuoh @OnionSoup But they wouldn’t any stops…
@ItalianScallion @OnionSoup Yes, every ride would be an express. The rider is guaranteed to arrive at the final destination on time or it’s free!
KuoH

Bwahaha I’m the weird talkative person that sits next to people and strikes up a conversation. I love talking to people.
@ivannabc same, I will match your energy!
Where is public transit
I never have used public transit, and don’t intend to ever do so.
@gjrupert
You don’t know what you’re missing. The metro in Paris is amazing.
@chienfou @gjrupert Yes, and the Tube in London, and pretty much all the trains in Japan.

I get wet if it’s raining when I go from the house to the less murdery shed.

Matching the symbols on the train with those on my map. Oh, and the stares the Asians give a fat American on a train.
