@djslack@hchavers CLEARLY YOU NEED THIS! So you can explore how handy it is beyond scrapbooking. No other ransom notes will compare as much as 4 towns over.
So basically a manual Cricut machine? Something I kinda want, but I’m not a scrapbooker so I wouldn’t likely ever use it after screwing around with it for a bit. So I kinda don’t want it either.
@ciabelle
Nope. A Cricut is a home-hobbyist-level cutting plotter; it cuts out the design you feed it from a computer. This thing only produces the shapes that the supplies dies are capable of cutting or embossing, and it’s expensive as heck to get a custom die made.
But if you have a cricut, you can cut and maybe emboss depending on the model. Advantage this has is faster multiples if you have a die of the thing you need.
You can crank out that sheet of butterflies with this quicker than you can cut them with a cricut, but you can’t change the butterflies unless you can make dies.
@ciabelle@djslack@hamjudo
For cutting paper and thin, soft sheet plastics (and the like), the type of die that works really well is a steel rule die, which is possible to DIY if you know where to get the materials. We used to have a couple of them at a shop I shared; they were used to punch out some gaskets that we had trouble getting in the material we really wanted.
@ciabelle At least compared to the newer Cricuts, it isn’t loaded with nasty proprietary software that needs a subscription on top of the big dumb expensive machine.
@hchavers These are also useful for making greeting cards. That’s what my mom uses them for. Now I rarely buy greeting cards (also birthday, wedding, baby shower, etc). Mom makes me a couple of dozen of assorted cards each year for my birthday and when I visit lets me pick through her samples from classes she’s taught in the past for anything else I’d use. It works out great for everyone as I get cards and she knows the cards she makes are used.
Oh, crap. There are a bunch of add-on dies available for this thing. This is clearly one of those hobby items designed to make you want All The Extra Fiddly Bits. Beware.
I’m like your mother. I love making these things. I watch a lot of what I call “craft porn”. Lots of how to videos. Rabbit holes that can take hours.
Some of what crafters make just absolutely amaze me.
I really want to try cards using Chibitronics lights. A ton of WOW! in those. A lot of the samples at that link use Lawn Fawn products. I’m addicted to Lawn Fawn. (I even have some videos on my youtube channel of some of the cards I’ve made.)
Hey, if anyone sees these over on Sidedeals or Morningsave, let me know. One of my friends wishes she’d been able to get one and I’d love to get one for her.

@pmarin saw him years ago at the reading music festival in England. He was AMAZING!
I just died a little when I saw this.
Die Dee Die
Neat! I don’t need it, but I wanted to make sure to publicly applaud you guys for having something different. Thanks!
@djslack Oh great! Now we’ll get weird scrap booking crap over and over again.
@djslack @hchavers
And that’s bad because…?
@djslack @hchavers CLEARLY YOU NEED THIS! So you can explore how handy it is beyond scrapbooking. No other ransom notes will compare as much as 4 towns over.
@djslack Now, we need Copic markers. (Damn those things are spendy.)
I keep telling myself my coloring and blending would be so much better if I had Copic markers.
Hmm…maybe I shouldn’t be wanting Copic, then I’d realize it’s not the markers, it’s me.
Yeah, never mind.
No, Mister Bond, I expect you to die!
@pmarin Live and let die?
@jaimelobo @pmarin Live and let diecast!

@ciabelle more like a freestyle Sizzix machine.

@ciabelle @djslack Anyone that has access to the equipment to make dies, almost certainly has access to much faster and more powerful presses.
Classes were available at a local maker space before Covid for making dies suitable for cutting and forming bronze sheet metal, or anything softer.

A thing I don’t need that makes more things I don’t need.
@JvB I’m holding out for the machine that makes Bluetooth speakers
@JvB Sounds perfect!
Please tell me you actually made a legit Irk die!
@ybmuG Came here to ask if the Irk die is included.
@ybmuG I only want to buy it if there are.
Hmmm… my wife used to scrap book. Do I really want to encourage her to start again?
Ask first. If she stopped, you may not want to hear the reason as part of the response to the arrival of this thing.

Truly quintessentially meh.
@werehatrack I have never hit the meh button as fast I did with this thing.
I’m guessing this doesn’t come with .45ACP or 9mm reloading dies.
@tweezak No, but it’s a pretty Square Deal otherwise.
Can you use it to squeeze out ditch weed to make hash oil?
@SputnikHQ I don’t need this for $60 to do that unless I want the bud to end up heart shaped.
I want it … but should I buy it …
Oh, crap. There are a bunch of add-on dies available for this thing. This is clearly one of those hobby items designed to make you want All The Extra Fiddly Bits. Beware.

@Philosopherott MIL is going to love this thing
As an avid die cutter, this is worth it just for the dies. The machine looks to have good ratings.
I’d be in for one, but I already have four sizzix cutters (three different sizes and one electric one).
Some samples of cards I’ve made using a die cutter:
This one is interactive
It’s really a lot of fun.
I think this cutter might be a great entry level cutter.
@lisaviolet
@lisaviolet Awesome work!!!
WORKER BEES! HERCULES! TURKEY GREASE! AWESOME!
@lisaviolet Those are some really cool cards.
@Tripod2 Thank you!
@gt0163c Thank you.

@mediocrebot What a bothole.
@lisaviolet Now that’s what I call art! Very nice indeed.
So if you want a special die …like #girltribe…how do you get it? A different machine? Computer?
But does it make pasta?
@Tripod2 Everyone knows you need the Play Doh press to make pasta
Nice model number.

It finally showed up on morningsave, just got one.
