I work at a metal recycling yard in Fargo, ND, so we take big steps every day to help out the environment! On average, we recycle 5000 tons of steel & 200 tons of non-ferrous (copper, brass, aluminum, etc) every month. Been working here for over 13 years!!
@tohar1 lived across the river many moons ago…(late 70s). Locally they have stopped picking up recycling so now I save it til I go to another town with bins…
@therealjrn that’s a trait we taught both our kids. Whenever we camped we ALWAYS left the area better/cleaner than when we arrived. I still constantly pick up crap other people leave about…
I put the beer cans that the streets department construction crew tossed into my yard instead of the bed of their truck into my recycle bin.
I’ll cut them slack since the pay is probably shitty and it was a sweltering 95 degrees by lunch time. I also dont want them to trench my yard when they leave at the end of the day. They’ll be parking in front of my house all week, since they’re working on the next block.
This afternoon, I pulled weeds, carefully shaking off the ladybugs on to other plants, and then putting the weeds in the bin. I haven’t seen any praying mantis yet, or I’d be doing the same for them. It was perfect weather for pulling weeds, by the way…very warm, partly cloudy, and very windy. Wind keeps the stinging fellows hiding away.
Any time someone wants to come help pull weeds, I have extras, and I know how to share.
When my car died a few years ago, I decided to give no-car-ownership a go. I still take the occasional rental, Lyft, etc, but by-and-large I bike, walk, bus or light rail like a mofo.
I also am 80% vegetarian now, and stopped burning four barrels of kerosene-soaked tires a day (eight on Sundays) as a method of communicating with my cousin Clarice who lives in the holler just south a piece.
KRULL! A SKULL! BRETT HULL! AWESOME!
Walk in it.
Bag the dog’s poop, and the poop of some other dog on the neighbor’s lawn (some dog owners! Seriously?!?)
I merely exist and the world is a much better place

I’m constantly picking up trash as I walk my properties. Damnit people! The world is not your trash can!

@chienfou @therealjrn as a fellow camper I appreciate that.
Purportedly, I exhale carbon dioxide.
Is that better than exhaling carbon monoxide, I hope?

@UncleVinny - Well now how the hell IS Clarice?
@aetris holding steady. 30% engine speed, light foxing in the auxiliary carburetors, no penance until Labor Day.
