Near freezing tonight, down to 17-18 by Tuesday night. Too damn cold for central AL. Time to batten down the hatches and move some tropicals inside the garage.

Our Puleida 600W/518Wh Portable Power Station that I bought here a couple months ago is working great for keeping phones charged and running a lamp or two when needed!

Today’s high will be 9° F. Low will be 3°. I will be inside, drinking hot tea and baking everything I can think of. I’m in NW Ohio, south of Toledo. Windchill will be -23°.
My sympathies for those of you in the deep freeze! Yeesh. We’ve been lucky in NH in the temperature department, but if these freaking storms (rain, snow, “wintry mix,” sometimes all three at the same time) don’t stop blowing thru literally every other day, I’m gonna lose my shit.
It is not yet 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, and the weather forecast says we’re within two degrees of our high for the day. Admittedly, that’s an absolutely torrid 43°F. And it’s only supposed to go down into the mid 30s tonight. But tomorrow night, we get the 20s. For Houston, that’s bloody cold. There is no precipitation in the forecast for the sub freezing portion of this week, so it will probably just be uncomfortable, rather than the screaming horror fest of an ice storm.
Supposed to be highs of 20 here for the next few days, with single digit lows and -1 Monday night. We dont usually get below the teens. All these midwest people making me feel better about it though.
15F, with 25-30 mph winds (NW Oregon)
But the cherry on top was Saturday morning when the plumbing for the well froze up. Fortunately I was able to get it thawed and working again by the afternoon. And yes, we have measures to prevent freezing but apparently they weren’t sufficient this time (after doing the job for 25 years). At least the power stayed on.
It’s been quite warm for this time of year here having been in the high 40s and low 50s during the day. Today is 38 degrees and has the potential for flurries.
Waited for today’s high of -3 to run out with the garbage, hoping we get tomorrow’s high of 0. We’re supposed to be back in the teens by Wednesday, so, whatever, winter in the greater Chicagoland area.
Currently -14° (air temp) with a wind chill of -25°. But that’s an improvement from the -21°/-48° yesterday. This is following two blizzards and 18" of fresh snow this week. Fun times. Tis the season!
@Kyeh Great guess! Though, by seeing the temperatures, one would guess that we are closer to the Land of Maple! But we are not, we are much further south.
@Cerridwyn@Kyeh
Yeah, ME TOO! For me, that’s the perfect temperature for this time of year! Unless of course it’s a perfectly dry and sunny 80-90° day and I’m in another state/country at the beach or pool! One can always dream…
@Kidsandliz 12° is crazy for you! And we will be excited when we finally move back above 0° and see 12°! Might actually feel balmy; can remove a layer or two. Maybe you can borrow our extras!
@JWhirly Some years ago I worked in NW Ontario (north of ThunderBay, north of Lake Nipigon) where 40 to 60 below (listed here in F although 40 below is the same in both F and C) at night was common. 20 below was a normal day time high, and 5 above was positively tropical.
I grew up in NE Ohio in the snowbelt where sub zero was not uncommon in the winter although usually no colder than 20 below. So I come back from NW Ontario that winter for Christmas and it is 5 above. Snow needs shoveled. I went outside to shovel, winter jacked unzipped, knit headband on to keep my ears from getting frostbitten, gloves on for the same reasons. No scarf on, no hood up, etc. People passing by where you could barely see their eyes thought I was nuts. Nope. As you said - balmy.
Of course a 45-60 temperature difference is noticeable. It reminded me of like in the spring up north when it was finally 55 after being 25 and we’d run outside with no jacket and our parents would yell at us to come back inside and put a jacket on. Why? It felt warm. Of course we were the same kids who’d slide down the front walk snow covered sidewalk hill in bare feat to turn it into ice faster.
This was 2 nights ago. Still haven’t warmed up to freezing, so it’s still frozen white out there… tomorrow is an ice storm before warming back up above freezing Wednesday. Should be fun. Thank goodness for a woodstove. Losing power during this is no fun.
What is the url of the app that has all the smart ass comments about the weather? I know it was discussed on meh once before but I can’t find the thread. Thanks.
@Kidsandliz That would be WTForecast, but I have never tried to find their website. The image in the preceding post is almost certainly a screenshot from the phone app.
Hm, we were definitely below zero, with a lot of wind… I had to warm dog paws a lot!
But hardly atypical. And certainly not the worst I’ve experienced.
(In the early 1990s, we had a very severe winter, with windchills reaching -85F. The university of course didn’t cancel classes, and, with no easy system for relaying info, many of us showed up after a significant trek to find the prof couldn’t make it in. There were cases of serious frostbite and other significant injuries.
Anyway.
Now we can say “Fuck this cold, class will be online tonight!” Progress is a good thing.)
We are about 2* cooler about 300 miles west of you
Not that cold! This was yesterday morning.
Near freezing tonight, down to 17-18 by Tuesday night. Too damn cold for central AL. Time to batten down the hatches and move some tropicals inside the garage.
Still shorts weather here.
I’m in Seattle area, day 3 of frigid temps here in the PNW.
13 degrees on January 13th!
And to top it off, our power has been out for 9 hours. We’re warm enough and have gallons of water though, so we’re not complaining!

@dasred Ooof, though!
It’s really cold, but it’s Nebraska so it is like this every year.
@lakertaylor13 Hey, Nor-fork, not to be confused with Nor-folk!

In NW Indiana at this very moment it is 2 degrees. Fairly windy too, according to my weather app, -21 with wind chill.
It’s -2 right now, windchill of -27. Won’t get above freezing until Wednesday. This is SE KS.
Today’s high will be 9° F. Low will be 3°. I will be inside, drinking hot tea and baking everything I can think of. I’m in NW Ohio, south of Toledo. Windchill will be -23°.
This is what my phone says, but the local TV news says 0 on Monday and -15 Mon night/Tues.

Woah glad you got that un-frozen.
Western PA at wind chill of 2 degrees!

@mossygreen High of -3!
Okay, you win - I was mad about a high of 5 today, but that’s way worse.
@Kyeh Nobody’s winning with this weather.
@mossygreen Except the power company; and maybe the plumbers in a few days …
-15°

@JWhirly Minnesota?!

@JWhirly Yikes. I figured either MN or ND.
@Cerridwyn
Feeling kind of jealous right now.

@Lynnerizer - are you in the deep freeze too?
@Cerridwyn @Kyeh
I wouldn’t call 24° a deep freeze but it’s a far cry from a day on the beach.

Edit
I live 2.5 hours north of the Gulf of Mexico. 12 degrees coming up soon.

@werehatrack It’s in the apple app store free with advertising across the bottom on the phone anyway.
@Kidsandliz I’m on Android, and I gave them the one-time payment to go ad-free.
@werehatrack I didn’t see a one time payment one in the apple store and their website doesn’t have a way to buy that I found.

Well that was short lived!
74F here at the moment- think it’s supposed to go up a few more degrees.
Very pleasant weather. We’ve had cold- now we’ve got nice.
