@Konraden It makes my wallet hurt that I often come to the same conclusion. That being the same reason I have about 30 edc knives sitting in my closet from meh.
@brhfl Yes. Midland Radio Corporation Midland Radio Corporation is an international industry leader in wireless communications with affiliates in Italy, Bulgaria, Germany, Poland, Russia, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Latin America. Known in the 1970s primarily for CB radios and household electronics, Midland has grown with the times by producing innovative new communications products and by actively promoting public emergency preparedness. Midland develops high quality consumer products such as XTC Wearable Video Cameras, GMRS Two-Way Radios, Citizen Band (CB) Radios, Marine Radios, Bluetooth Intercom systems, and All Hazards/Weather Alert Radios. Also, as a leading manufacturer of Land Mobile Radios, Midland supplies professional grade analog and digital (P25 Technology) Portables, Mobiles, and Base Stations/Repeaters for government entities such as forestry, public safety, and other commercial users.
@cengland0 Good to know that the Midland PR department finally got Internet access. 10-4 good buddy. Put the hammer down and catch you on the flip-side.
@sjk3 Did you ever hear the song "The White Knight" by Cledus Maggard? I'm not a fan of this type of music but I do have it in my MP3 collection because it's one of the funniest songs ever.
@mehgrl Hey mehgrl...looks like you've got your own thread going here and the conversation is taking it right up my alley. No strings attached. If you get one will you do demonstrations?
@cinoclav Throw rocks at it? You can throw it at rocks (or potentially other things)! While recording! Post your videos to MEH. Show us what it takes to deconstruct it by lobbing it at things!
@ruouttaurmind THAT'S IT!!! Ahem..., yes. That's it exactly. 1960's era Vegas showgirls. Lovely creatures in the most garish of outfits. Nothing could be finer in Hi Definition video.
So the 1080p version doesn't come with all the same mounts as the 720p? These are missing from the description for the 1080p version: 1x Helmet strap 1x Bicycle handlebar mount 1x Goggle mount
@cengland0 The 1080p comes with the "universal" mount sticky pads so you can stick it anywhere. Most likely a helmet. So, you lose a strap but gain a sticky pad. Your call. Again, it's cheap, who cares if it breaks.
@Collin1000 well i just noticed the amazon ones are new and these are refurb...so im out. It was a hard decision though because i need a underwater camera to shoot videos for work and a cheap one i could lose to muskies
It's tiny. It shoots in 1080p. And it's cheap. Sounds tempting but do I have the funding for an epic sci fi, buddy comedy, romantic, thriller, drama, how to, pot boiler, film noir, detective, superhero, comic book, based on a true story but highly fictionalized so it doesn't resemble the actual events action trilogy?
@RicoSuave Here are three things you will need to make a Michael Bay movie. 1) Flat characters. 2) A pointless script 3) 200,000 lbs of Hollywood grade explosives.
@jaybird It's like 13 min/gb on the 260 model, and 11 min./gb on the 280 model. I was just reading the user's manual and it doesn't support inversion mode or overwrite mode, so not that ideal for a dash cam.
frugal-adventurous-bit I put one of each in my cart but had a problem with my cc so I re-entered info and then said the 1080 was not available... Meh.... so I bought two 720's...one to give to nephew turning 16 and one for hubby for Dads day to strap on the wakeboard and ski this summer. Better yet, put on the kids tubing and watch the epic wipe-outs... Never had one before so I figure I can't go wrong for first one for the $$! Thanks, Meh! Oh, just in case you find an extra 1080 in the warehouse, please add to my acct and send to me...
@Opemiyaku I kept hitting refresh and trying at least 20 times and still no luck! Thanks for making me feel worse! 😜 actually I am happy for u.... May it not end up in the bottom of the ocean...
After all, I've made a purchase (1080). Not that I think I need this, or I think this is a good product. I don't trust electronics made in USA, unless it's from a giant company like Apple.
@Opemiyaku Agreed, I also didn't need one, but I was in the middle of e-filing my tax refund and figured for $20 it was worth playing with. I just need to figure out how to mount it to the dog and let the fun begin!
@christinerenee if you look real close at the boat you can see a guest with a jar of pickles. This picture should be called "Pickles and Other Stuff" or something like that.
@jaremelz You can get meh gift cards? I couldn't imagine a worse gift. here is some money to a site that sells one item a day and at times of questionable quality...happy birthday.
@RedHot That makes much more sense. I think the nearly 3 weeks of not sleeping due to newborn is starting to catch up with me. Even the simplest of things confuse me now. On the plus side, I'm typically awake early enough to buy the things that normally would be sold out at my normal wake up time.
@MrMark Yes, they are regular gift cards. I remember those days, the newborn ones. Of course, I don't remember much because it's a sleep deprived blur... Good luck to you!
On the bright side, I just found another use for one of my neoprine sleeves!
And if anyone has buyers remorse on the 1080 camera, I will happily take it off your hands (plus shipping, of course)... If not, I will happily film my water sports in sub-par 720.... Hey, if I strap both 720's on at the same time will I get 1440?
I'm way more excited about this than I should be. Do you think it would freak people out if I started wearing it on my head all the time? You know, because my life is so interesting it needs to be documented.
I'm betting $20 that it is a good deal so I bought a 720. Reviews on Amazon convinced me And yes the 1080 was offered as available. I bought the 720....morose-powerful-knife.....whatever, Thanks!
@snapster I hope you get more one day. Missed the 1080p version but got a consolation 720p, and then saw the idea about 3d this morning. I'd like to get my hands on more if there's a next time around.
So it was cheaper to buy both models from meh so I have all available mounts and a spare battery camera when the first on breaks. Boy my shoulder's sore from patting myself on the back.
@Stumpy91 yes, clever if you believe the battery will "break" before the camera. But having a second battery for when the first one discharges certainly is handy.
@TerriblyHuang I'm normally MDT but I'm in Vienna this week. Sleep addled and not sure what time it was back home, I stumbled on this moments after it went up, through sheer luck. Bought one for the kiddo, his birthday is coming up soon. Lets see how long this lasts in the hands of a 6 year old.
I have a GoPro with another $500-$600 in accessories for SCUBA diving. $30 for 200ft depth??? In for 1 even though I really don't need it. Maybe I can strap it to my GoPro pole and film the GoPro filming me?
Was going to buy a GoPro replica yesterday for my motorcycle helmet, and I see this today.. was so bummed 1080p ran out but 720p has bike accessories .. meh!
I was upset with the beats audio earbuds boner you pulled a couple of days ago but now you have totally redeemed yourselves! Bravo! Bravo! Bought three 1080p models before they sold out in the 1st half-hour. May God bless your pointy little heads!
Received mine today. Anyone else receive their 1080p version? I ask because mine came with the camera, the USB cable, battery, the waterproof case, and 1 disconnectable lanyard.
It did not come with any mounts including the one it said it should come with -- 1x 3M sticking mount. It was missing the second disconnectable lanyard too.
I can do without the lanyard but I would really appreciate receiving the sticking mount.
@cengland0 Same. Meh-ntioned it to support, I think. Will wait to hear back. I also totally forgot I needed to order a card for this too--I thought I had a pile of those laying around somewhere but I guess not.
@Konraden I think I'll contact support too but I think this may be a big issue where nobody received it. The box it came in was a generic brown box with bubblewrap. No instructions either. Came with a sticker that had a URL where to download the instructions.
I knew when I bought this that it wold be refurbished but this is a crazy way to receive a refurbished unit.
@cengland0 The manual is only 8 pages long since it's a very simple camera to operate. That said, mine came today, but I ordered the 720dpi version. It came in the same brown box (labeled "Midland Radio Corp" and "Factory Reconditioned") and bubble wrap, but mine seems to have all of the mounts that were shown, including the extra lanyard. (It's not really a lanyard, but a safety cord should the camera detatch from the mount while skydiving, which I won't be doing...ever!) Still, you should have received one along with the standard sticky-mount with extra pads. :-(
@Kerig3 I understand the manual is only 8 pages but the description said it would come with a printed manual. Instead, it came with a sticker with the website of the manufacturer and you have to download the manual. That's different from a printed manual. That means there were three mistakes in the description or in the packing of my box: 1. No manual 2. No 3M Stickable Mount 3. Only 1 Lanyard instead of 2 included.
@cengland0 I'm not trying to minimize the mistakes to your order, I was just saying that there isn't much to the manual and a download (to print) is an easy solution. Still, they need to send you a mount and lanyard at the very least. On the other hand these were really, really, really inexpensive! A great way to play with an action cam without feeling bad that you shelled out a ton of money when it sits in a drawer for months on end, like mine will probably do.
@Kerig3 But deep down, I really didn't care too much about the camera. I have a Sony HDR-AS100VR that is a better camera and I was buying this for the cheap mount for my existing camera and a disposable camera that I could use in the racquetball court. One hit and it's probably gone.
Anyway, I asked others in this forum to see if mine was an isolated case or if others experienced the same problem. If I was the only person, then I would just forget about it; however, others have said they didn't get it either so now that's a big issue. I think Meh needs to figure out what went wrong and fix it.
@cengland0 I'm sure Meh will fix it, given a little patience. FYI, the mount your missing will only work with the Midland cameras since it has a track system and not a standard 1/4" camera screw.
@thismyusername Yes it does! I bought the 720dpi model myself. But the 'mount' that was supposed to come with the 1080dpi model is not a 1/4" screw mount (it's a propriotary track-system mount). If you read cengland0's posting previous to mine you'll see that he was actually hoping for the mount that he did not receive so that he could use it with other (non-Midland) action cams. This is why I mentioned that said missing-mount did not have a 1/4" connection. The discussion was about the mount, not the waterproof case. Does this make sense now? :-)
@Stumpy91 Yes it does, but the mount in question (the one that was supposed to come with the 1080 cam) is the sticky-pad mount that does not have the 1/4" standard camera screw. Am I wrong? If so I stand corrected. :-\
@thismyusername No prob. I was just trying to calm nerves over the weekend for those that were missing parts as I'm sure Meh will make things right eventually. I don't work for Meh, so I'll let MEH handle the pitchforked hordes in the future! LOL ;-)
@thismyusername According the the photos for the 1080dpi cam, it's the same mount that I received. I had to look again at the photo to make sure it was the same.
@thismyusername No, the yellow switch on the case does not physically move the switch on the camera. I noticed the the yellow switch on the case has a small rectangular magnet under it, so this must be what triggers the camera when it's in the case. I have the camera turned OFF before putting it into the case and once sealed I then move the yellow switch UP the camera turns on and is ready to record. But I am still waiting for my memory card to be shipped, so I can't verify that it's working. BTW, you can get cheap (non-OEM) replacement batteries on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F0HR4GG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@Kerig3 thanks much... guess we found out why mine was returned ;) I can see the magnet, but it never triggers record for me (1080p unit)... I did sorta get it to work but it involved keeping the camera switch in the middle (on but not locked) and not closing the case... which sorta defeats the purpose of the case! hehe Oh and looking at that picture I now understand what you mean about the slide on mount.
Just an FYI - I thought I read somewhere that these cameras wouldn't record when plugged in. That appears to be true when plugged into a computer's USB as the record switch is used to handshake with the PC, however when plugged into a 5V/750ma USB charger, it recorded both audio and video even with the battery removed. The audio picked up a low level feedback tone but video seemed fine. Might be helpful to those who wanted to dash mount. I think these were a steal. (Tested on the 260 / 720P model)
Anyone know how the case works? I turn it on and put it in, it turns it off, I turn if off and put it in it stays off (move case switch)... looked at the manual... nothing... looked for a manual for the case... nothing... help?
@matthew guess mine dont work? Do you turn the camera on before inserting? IF so mine just switches off when I put it in the case (it physically moves the switch to off). I decided it might not turn the leds on in the case... tested, no video so guess that is not it.
Yeah, it seems like loading the camera into the case can move the switch (maybe depending on the position of both switches when you insert the camera), as it passes under the magnet on the way in. I don't have mine in front of me now to check this, but I think you could either manipulate the case switch to get it synched with the camera switch after you load the camera, or make sure the case switch is in the forward/on position when you insert the already-turned-on camera.
@matthew thanks when you get around it or anyone with one... does it phsyically move the switch on the camera when you move it on the case? I must have the wrong case as the case is physically switching the camera off? I have tried several positions no luck. Thanks for the info!
For any wondering, it just appears that either the magnetic switch in the camera is not where it should be (perhaps it slipped out of position?) or my case is wrong (perhaps not letting it seat properly?) or even perhaps the magnet in the case is under spec? Will update when I get a magnet and mess around with it.
@thismyusername Mine works fine. We did put a magnet above the switch and it turned on. So, maybe if you're a little slow installing it into the case, it might turn it on.
@densa nope... it will never trigger ever when its in the case properly... if i leave the case open and have the cam sticking out slightly AND the switch past the off lock position it will let the case start recording... something is wrong for sure... now im not sure if its worth the effort of shipping it to midland or just using it without a case?
@thismyusername Try to put a magnet over the camera where the switch should be in the "on" position. It should turn on. If it doesn't, then your camera is defective. If it does, then your case is defective (bad magnet?)
@thismyusername Alright. I figured out what you're doing. Leave the camera in the "off" position. Slide the camera into the case (in the "off" position) then on the top of the waterproof case is a switch. Turn that "on" and it should start recording.
@densa nope, camera off, case off, slide camera in, lock case, slide case switch on, nothing. Thanks for the try however! (Now if i switch the camera on then slide if off without locking the camera into the off position and then put the camera in the case wtih about a 1/4 inch sticking out the back of the case I can cause it to turn on and off... but well it's sticking out of the case ;)
@eyewerks Received this response from meh customer service regarding the missing mount. Not sure I care for it much. - "I know we don’t have any parts left to send, if you reach out to Midland at https://midlandusa.com/midland/about/contact-us/ they’ll send you those missing parts no problem!
When you talk to them make sure you mention those parts were supposed to be included as our product specs says and let them know you purchased from A Mediocre Corporation.
If you need a proof of purchase you can use a screenshot of the My Orders page. Let us know how it goes."
@Stumpy91 That is an unacceptable response from Meh Customer Service. Meh should handle seeing to it that we get everything we bought from them. It's not my job to do their work.
@eyewerks This is very common. Haven't you bought things with a piece of paper that says: If missing a piece do not return to the store, contact the company at XXXXX. Meh most likely did not pack them, but simply resold. Contacting the company is the quickest solution, also they are the ones that screwed up. They are the ones that have the inventory.
@MrMark Yes, I have. And that piece of paper doesn't absolve the merchant from responsibility. In fact, the manufacturers often want customers to contact them directly so that merchants don't get aggregated with the grief caused by the manufacturer and drop carrying their products
Got a reply from midland: "Thank you for contacting Midland Radio. The refurbished camera does not come with the universal mount. That is only included with the camera when you purchase a new camera not refurbished. Veronica Contreras Customer Service Midland Radio Corporation 5900 Parretta Dr. Kansas City, MO 64120 816-241-8500 office 816-241-5713 e: vcontreras@midlandradiocom w: www.midlandusa.com"
@einrad At least you got a response. I'm still waiting for my reply and I sent it within an hour of receiving instructions from meh customer service to contact them directly. No hope Midland will come through with the mount.
@JonT I understand and I'm not complaining about the great customer service I'm receiving from Meh. I'm just surprised I haven't heard back from Midland at all. At least I got a response from you guys. Thanks.
Hey guys, wanted to take a second to let you know whats going on with these.
When we purchased these we were told that all of the accessories (mounts, sticky pads, etc.) would be included in the box. As it turns out some of the packages were missing items, which we were unaware of when we sold them.
Typically in these cases we will gladly get you a replacement or take the spare parts out of a package to send you. However, for this particular sale we are 100% out of stock so we have nothing we can send you. Unless you want us to tie some strings together to make our version of a mount.
We are working with the vendor to see if we can get some replacement parts for you but the quickest route to take at this point is to have you contact Midland directly to get these. Doing so simply removes the middle man (in this case: us) from the picture.
We are happy to help in any way we can if Midland gives you any push back and will do our best to get some replacements in house ASAP for those that aren't able to work directly with Midland for a resolution. Thus far they have been very responsive and are fully willing to work with our customers to have this situation corrected.
@MEHcus Thanks for the update. I sent a message to Midland USA. We'll see how responsive they are. I'm glad I also bought the 720p version that had all of it's mounts. I'd be more pissed if I had only purchased the 1080p version that was missing the mount like many people here have stated.
Don't hold your breath for Midland. I just called them and spoke to Veronica. She checked with her manager (Andrea) who told her that her understanding is that the refurbished models do not come with the universal mount. I explained to her that the 720P came with the mount and read her what @MEHcus informed us.
There must be some miscommunication problems at Midland. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.
I asked to speak to her manager (Andrea) and they put me on hold and after a couple minutes disconnected me. All I can say is, "meh..."
@densa Thanks for letting us know. We are getting in touch with them now to see to it that this doesn't happen again. In the meantime, shoot us a message at meh.com/support and we'll get you taken care of once we get some replacement parts in.
@MEHcus Thanks. I first contacted meh.com/support and then contacted them. I have changed usernames in the last day so it may have been under my old username.
@MEHcus What about those of us who already contacted meh.com/support and then got an "I'm sorry we can't help you and to contact Midland" message? Do you want us to contact support a second time or will we automatically be included if we previously contacted them?
I received a 1080p camera and a USB cable. Nothing else! I emailed meh through their website. I haven't received any response. If nothing else, I will contest the charges and be done with meh! Seems like another meh screw-up!!!
I have to say we are loving this silly thing. I went and ordered the accessories that someone posted above and am glad I did since the sticky mount wasn't in the box. But so far we've just goofed off with it by lowering it into a local body of water or running around with it.
Has anyone managed to get the missing pieces yet? Is this just one of those occasions where meh messed up and overstated what they were selling? Maybe they will send us all another pair of socks
@mrken30 I have not recieved the parts that were missing from my order. Midland didn't reply to my e-mails, they were rude and dismissive to me on the phone, and after an e-mail updare from Meh weeks ago I have heard nothing.
@eyewerks I didn't get any reply from Midland yet either and still nothing from meh. Are they trying to wait us out until we forget? @JonT is there an update on this?
Still nothing here, customer service seems non existent with missing parts. There is always the credit card company route for non received items. There are many avenues, instead of ignoring us, 1 month free MVP , a mystery box containing a mount for a midland camera.
@mrken30 A month of free VMP is not an acceptable solutiuon . Meh could either send us the mounts or refund the purchase price. It's been over a month.
@eyewerks I have a feeling that Meh hasn't done anything because the vendor is giving them the run-around and they're trying to figure out what to do without getting more cameras. While I'd feel just as frustrated as you are without an answer, I don't imagine they're enjoying the vendor interaction on their end either.
@dashcloud So are you trying to say that Meh's problem should become MY problem? Unacceptable. Meh needs to resolve this thing. At first Meh instructed those of us that were short a mount to contact Midland. I did, both my e-mail and by telephone. Midland is not responsive to e-mails, and they're rude and dismissive on the phone. There are mounts for sale on Midland's site. Perhaps Meh needs to demand that they fork some over or buy some to resolve this issue. I have already missed the opportunities to use the camera for the events it was purchased for.
@eyewerks I'm not saying that- I'm saying they are likely trying to sort out what to do, and due to an unfortunate series of events haven't gotten back to you yet. It sucks, and you did nothing wrong here.
Update for you guys! We finally got the replacement parts in. I'll have to manually re-ship them all individually but I'll get them out to you guys as soon as I can.
@hollboll Thank you! It's good to know that progress is being made. (Now, if I catch you doing any of those silly live feed things between now and when the mounts ship out there's going to be hell to pay.)
@eyewerks we'll be holding on to yours until after the next LabStream. If you'd like to get it you'll have to tell us the first and last words spoken during that stream.
@JonT@Snapster Wow. Nice ethical way to do business. Or were you trying to be funny? Many of us have waited over a month for the mounts that we PAID for, yet you seem to think that making a comment that imposes addition conditions is somehow acceptable. If I were your employer and you treated my customers that way I'd fire your ass forthwith. From where I sit your first priority should be fixing the error that inconvenienced your customers. Good hearted joking around is one thing, but trying to create a nexus between a real world transaction and behavior/activity/comments on the forums is right out! I get a sense that some Meh employees take themselves and the virtual constructs of this "community" a bit too seriously. I also think there's a contingency of Meh lemmings that run amuck like a bunch of brown nosing puppies, starring everything a said my anyone with a flask next to their name. I personally find it kind of sad and creepy (especially since their intent seems to be to side with Meh over customers in matters where the customer has done no wrong). Why don't we start off by letting people know exactly what your job at Meh is, @JonT, and then perhaps the powers that be can discuss my suggestion of having Shawn develop a piece of code that allows us to see exactly who is starring the posts on the forums, Thank you, and I await my overdue mount.
@eyewerks Wow, what a response to my good hearted little joke! I guess we're both lucky that you're not my employer. :)
My first priority absolutely was and is getting this fixed for my customers, which is why I made sure @hollboll took a look into what was going on when I saw that the mounts still hadn't been received, which lead to her posting that update up there. I'm very sorry that some of you didn't receive everything you paid for, but we are in the process of making that right as quickly as we possibly can.
I truly thought it was abundantly clear that I was joking, we're pretty silly 'round these parts…I mean have you seen our office? It sounds like you're not having the best time around here, which is a shame, but as I've said before our community isn't for everyone. I hope you'll stick around and try to have a little fun with us, but if not then no hard feelings. We'll make sure to get you your mount ASAP, I'll personally send it out tomorrow.
Oh, and maybe you should give the LabStream another try, I think it was on last weeks show that I admitted to sometimes starring my own posts.
@JonT Gotcha! :) Of course I knew you were kidding, ...but I have to admit I wanted you to wonder whether or not I was. On reading it now, I think I may have gone a little over the top, ...but that what's happens when you type a lot of text into this little reply box. Thanks to you and @hollboll for getting this squared away.
@JonT While this has nothing to do with this camera. I have to impart my thoughts on two areas which are: 1) it would be nice to have a reply box that shows the entie conversation you are typing. Like with the "what do you want to say" box. Editing is very difficult for ADD members like me in that little long box. 2) As for seeing who starred you - I would not do it. I remember when deals.woot went to a down-voting format and to this day I think it was a really BAD idea. Keep stars anonymous, and plus votes only. It is far more community friendly.
@mfladd I agree with you on the box that scrolls horizontally. Hint, if you use your mobile device to reply, it actually has the type of box you want. It's just the full site version that sucks.
@hollboll I knew you guys would fix this. Oops, what I meant to say is damn you for shipping mine tomorrow!!! What if I miss a shot of a yeti or something? Shakes fist.
@Stumpy91 I was told to contact customer support to make sure my name was added to a list so my assumption would be that it's only to those people who already identified themselves as missing one.
@hollboll Got the mount and lanyard today. Together with a cute little note. Things like that really make things worth the wait and make this five star customer service.
Am I the only one who buys stuff from Meh and sticks the boxes in a closet (ever-growing and over flowing) until it's time to give to the recipient (birthday, Christmas, etc...)? Now I'm nervous that the items won't work (camera's, in this case) or is missing pieces. However, if I open everything and try it out it will look like I am giving a used gift or regifting.... Hey, just because I bought something cheap ($ wise), doesn't mean I am actually a tightwad. I also find myself putting the items I purchased "just because" in a closet until I need it-at which point is usually past the 90 day warranty period.
So I ask you, fellow Meh friends, do you open and test things you purchase for other people from Meh?
@wildmomo If you look at the Midland camera, the way it is packaged it looks like it's been used anyway. It's not in the original box, doesn't come with the manual, and was a refurb.
@wildmomo Yeah, I know what you mean. I just noticed that I seem to missing an order I placed 3 months ago…It shows as ‘delivered’ but the tracking number is not valid, so who knows??
@ObsidianOne At first, I thought my 1080p version was horrible because it kept pausing the video and was very jerky. I then installed a better and more expensive fast memory card that can handle the bandwidth of the camera and it worked flawlessly.
@cengland Mine is the 720 and sometimes it'll light up, show that it's recording on my helmet, ride to my destination 15 minutes away and both green lights will be on and the REC light will be solid and not record anything. Other times it works. Sometimes no lights will come on unless I remove the battery and reinstall.
@ObsidianOne My 1080p camera seems to work well. I've ridden my motorcycle a few times with the camera strapped to the turn signal upside down. Other than having to rotate the video on the computer later, I was impressed with the quality. Absorbed the shocks of our great California mountain roads much better than my Contour used to. It also has less of a fish eye effect. As far as reliability goes it always recorded until I turned it off or it ran out of battery.
Wow, lots of anger up in here. Interesting. Anywhoo, thanks @hollball for sorting this out, and for the awesome note. The sketch was an excellent touch. It actually made me smile a little.
Still haven't received the replacement mounts for this. Admittedly I have not needed them as it has sat unused in it's box on my desk since I got it, but still. . . Any update?
@sexygoldfish At this point, it's been a few months and you should write in to meh.com/support to see what they can do for you. (They'll answer some time Mon)
so I tried this thing out for the first time today (yea yea, been meaning to and all that...). anyway, it's a bummer. I recorded my commute both ways, about 70 minutes total, and upon reading the SD card I have 75 seconds of footage.
sucks, because I really wanted to bust the asshole who made an illegal right turn in front of me.
@Lotsofgoats Interesting. I have mine sitting around and haven't used it. Maybe it's time to pull it out and make sure it actually works. Thanks for the warning!
@ChadP yea the footage I did get was acceptable, just unlucky enough to get a finnicky unit and lazy enough to not test the thing within the warranty period ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So, I know I’m way outside of the warranty, but yesterday I finally figured out I have a defective unit. I tried once before, but it died after a few seconds so I assumed it had to be in the on position while charging.
Tried charging it both ways yesterday, but still only got about 3 seconds of footage. Any ideas how to get it to work? I don’t mind smashing it then rewiring. It can’t be worse than the defective drones that shocked my fingertips.
@Pantheist no I was trying to narrow down… one of the midlands I received had the magnet inside the camera missing or offset so in the case it wouldn’t record, but outside it was just fine.
So they charge in the off and on positions (at least mine do) but of course they would charge faster in the off position… when you get that 3 seconds of video… does the camera beep when starting and then just beep 3 seconds later… do the lights stay on? what I am getting at is does it appear to be working fine? If YES try another memory card (perhaps a different brand/class). If NO (aka it turns itself off right after you turn it on) I am guessing battery.
@Pantheist try just plugging it into a power adapter (no computer) turn it on and see if it records? I have no idea if it works when connected to a machine with an actual data connection, never tried that. I just use my cigarette to usb adapter in the car when I use it as my cheap dashcam
I take it you tried another memory card and it acted the same?

again?
@xarous When was this offered before?
@cengland0 No again for me staying up for a meh.
Hmmmmmm.
Am I need an action cam?
Nope. But It's extremely cheap.
What should I do....
@seungyeonyou HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHa. Buy 3.
@Konraden It makes my wallet hurt that I often come to the same conclusion. That being the same reason I have about 30 edc knives sitting in my closet from meh.
Great for porn?
@somf69 Wish I had one of these when I was youn.. well, nm
Midland? Like… the CB radio company? Huh.
@brhfl yup, which means coming soon to a meh near you Midland Radios...Midland Radios EVERYWHERE!!! (actually I could use one)
@brhfl Yes. Midland Radio Corporation Midland Radio Corporation is an international industry leader in wireless communications with affiliates in Italy, Bulgaria, Germany, Poland, Russia, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Latin America. Also, as a leading manufacturer of Land Mobile Radios, Midland supplies professional grade analog and digital (P25 Technology) Portables, Mobiles, and Base Stations/Repeaters for government entities such as forestry, public safety, and other commercial users.
@brhfl
@rileyper I'd buy some sort of fancy radio from Meh for $15-20 or so.
@cengland0 worst company written promo ever
I prefer inaction cameras.
Strap it to your head? With duct tape?
My hair hurts just looking at that?
Trying to find a reason to buy this. Anyone?
@mehgrl you can use it to record stuff
@mehgrl You can throw rocks at it.
@mehgrl Dash cam, perhaps?
@mehgrl its cheap and the video quality is ok
@DaveInSoCal My stuff is too meh for this.
@cinoclav Even if it's strapped to my head?
@jmckinl only issue with that is that even at 1080, it wouldnt read licence plates that well
@jmckinl Tipping the scale, sort of.
@communist Meh and mediocre in one sentence. Nice.
@mehgrl
Strap it to your taint and get freaky.
@mehgrl Especially! It goes on a helmet after all.
Ran out of Cobra products, (m)eh?
The idea of a "strap-on" cam scares me.
My advice: Keep your wives and girlfriends off Meh today.
@eyewerks I don't think it's small enough.
I guess I could swallow it and see where all that pizza goes.
@Fish_Kungfu point of order, these are refurb. That might be a B-movie re-run.
Are you absolutely sure that this isn't a Zeos computer in drag?
Ordered one. This should make for some great HD action recaps of reconciling commission reports at work.
I could have used this the other day when I leaned back in my 10+ year old office chair and it snapped in half. Would have been hilarious. Oh well.
Not that much action, cam...
@ruouttaurmind that is some serious bush trimmin' going on there....
@thismyusername Thank God I got it on video, eh? We scrubbed the theatrical release and are going straight to DVD. Order yours now!
@ruouttaurmind What? No dancing girls? Where are the dancing girls?
@ruouttaurmind Whew! I'm exhausted from just watching that intensive labor.
@TheTexasTwister Who do you think is behind the camera? Dancing girls!
@ruouttaurmind FPL game in the works?
@Mehrocco_Mole I want them in front of the camera. Not behind it.
@TheTexasTwister And ruin the mystery?
@Mehrocco_Mole Hell yes! I don't want mystery. I want dancing girls. Pretty ones. With long, lovely legs, skimpy clothes and big, poofy headresses.
@TheTexasTwister Aaaahhhh... Vegas in the '60's style dancing girls!
@ruouttaurmind THAT'S IT!!! Ahem..., yes. That's it exactly. 1960's era Vegas showgirls. Lovely creatures in the most garish of outfits. Nothing could be finer in Hi Definition video.
@TheTexasTwister Vintage Vegas baby. Donn Arden's Jubilee. Mad style...
@ruouttaurmind HELLO, NURSE!!! (Those are girls, right? Not guys dressed in drag or something Vegas weird?)
@TheTexasTwister Gen-u-wine Vegas cuties from the Jubilee show.
@ruouttaurmind WooHoo!! I'll be having some SWEET dreams tonight!!
So the 1080p version doesn't come with all the same mounts as the 720p? These are missing from the description for the 1080p version:
1x Helmet strap
1x Bicycle handlebar mount
1x Goggle mount
@cengland0 The 1080p comes with the "universal" mount sticky pads so you can stick it anywhere. Most likely a helmet. So, you lose a strap but gain a sticky pad. Your call. Again, it's cheap, who cares if it breaks.
Actually the price is as low as 64$ on amazon if you click more prices with free shipping.
Don't know if I should pull the trigger or not....my one plus one I'm on now shoots 4k videos....just not underwater
@msujp I also wouldn't throw rocks at my cell phone so there's that. I'd be nervous to use my cell phone for any extreme video.
@Collin1000 well i just noticed the amazon ones are new and these are refurb...so im out. It was a hard decision though because i need a underwater camera to shoot videos for work and a cheap one i could lose to muskies
@msujp
(Checks sofa for loose change)
Nope. Not enough. Unless... Hello? Roger Corman?
I am absurdly happy that I got this deal!
amethyst-incognito-territory
Weary-cramped-arm
I might know a guy who could use one, but I'm not in the market right now
are these decent cameras for just youtube videos? anyone know? I need something better than an Iphone and this is definitely within the budget.....
@christine403 I say yes, but watch the video and be your own judge.
If these had a video out feed or the ability to attach an external mic, I'd be in for a bunch...but no such luck :(
Let's make a Michael Bay movie!
@RicoSuave Here are three things you will need to make a Michael Bay movie. 1) Flat characters. 2) A pointless script 3) 200,000 lbs of Hollywood grade explosives.
I'm thinking dash cam. What's the minutes/gig on the 1080?
@jaybird and nevermind
@jaybird It's like 13 min/gb on the 260 model, and 11 min./gb on the 280 model. I was just reading the user's manual and it doesn't support inversion mode or overwrite mode, so not that ideal for a dash cam.
Lame. I was gonna buy the 1080p, but it's already gone.
@Pony Ditto. What a bummer!
@TheTexasTwister @pony @jaybird sit on the checkout page and hit refresh in case someone cancels. Worked for me 5 minutes ago.
@derpandabar I tried that a bunch of times, but had no luck. Oh well.
pfft you suckers already sent me a HALO video recorder!
@Lotsofgoats Ummm, "recorder". The video part is debatable too.
@narfcake hey I said recorder, not data storage
does the 1080 p camera fit in 720p mounts??
1080p out
I want 1080 model!!
Me too.... I'd settle, but the deal's entirely sold out now B-(
I thought about using it as a dash cam, but one of the amazon reviews says you can't charge and record at the same time.
Not as scary as Mandy the Mannequin, but at least that foam head is filthy. So that's something I guess.
frugal-adventurous-bit
I put one of each in my cart but had a problem with my cc so I re-entered info and then said the 1080 was not available... Meh.... so I bought two 720's...one to give to nephew turning 16 and one for hubby for Dads day to strap on the wakeboard and ski this summer. Better yet, put on the kids tubing and watch the epic wipe-outs... Never had one before so I figure I can't go wrong for first one for the $$! Thanks, Meh! Oh, just in case you find an extra 1080 in the warehouse, please add to my acct and send to me...
@wildmomo I've just bought a 1080. May be you should try again.
@Opemiyaku I kept hitting refresh and trying at least 20 times and still no luck! Thanks for making me feel worse! 😜 actually I am happy for u.... May it not end up in the bottom of the ocean...
@wildmomo Thanks for your blessing!
After all, I've made a purchase (1080). Not that I think I need this, or I think this is a good product. I don't trust electronics made in USA, unless it's from a giant company like Apple.
This product was just too cheap to meh.
@Opemiyaku Agreed, I also didn't need one, but I was in the middle of e-filing my tax refund and figured for $20 it was worth playing with. I just need to figure out how to mount it to the dog and let the fun begin!
@Opemiyaku you realize that Apple's products are made in China, right?
@ronnyd Well, I mean, they're at least designed in USA
I don't do anything worth 1080ping anyway. For $20 I can always throw it at a rock. fixated-rebellious-jar
@LankHairdoo How in the heck is that the picture for fixated-rebellious-jar?
@christinerenee seems to be on a series about rebellious brides. Don't where the jar comes in.
@christinerenee know
@christinerenee if you look real close at the boat you can see a guest with a jar of pickles. This picture should be called "Pickles and Other Stuff" or something like that.
@LankHairdoo
@LankHairdoo
@LankHairdoo Ooh Santorini!
The husband has a couple gift cards burning a hole in his wallet, so in for one! Even if it's crap, the kids will have fun.
@jaremelz You can get meh gift cards? I couldn't imagine a worse gift. here is some money to a site that sells one item a day and at times of questionable quality...happy birthday.
@MrMark pretty she she means one of those visa/mastercard gift cards
@RedHot That makes much more sense. I think the nearly 3 weeks of not sleeping due to newborn is starting to catch up with me. Even the simplest of things confuse me now. On the plus side, I'm typically awake early enough to buy the things that normally would be sold out at my normal wake up time.
@MrMark Yes, they are regular gift cards. I remember those days, the newborn ones. Of course, I don't remember much because it's a sleep deprived blur... Good luck to you!
How in the Meh are you still getting 1080s they have been sold out for me for over 30 min and I keep refreshing on 2 browsers just in case :(
On the bright side, I just found another use for one of my neoprine sleeves!
And if anyone has buyers remorse on the 1080 camera, I will happily take it off your hands (plus shipping, of course)... If not, I will happily film my water sports in sub-par 720.... Hey, if I strap both 720's on at the same time will I get 1440?
@wildmomo position them just so and jury rig some 3D!
How about GoNo, ya crazy Dutch bastard.
I'm way more excited about this than I should be. Do you think it would freak people out if I started wearing it on my head all the time? You know, because my life is so interesting it needs to be documented.
@christinerenee I don't know. How did that Google Glass thing go?
I'm betting $20 that it is a good deal so I bought a 720. Reviews on Amazon convinced me And yes the 1080 was offered as available. I bought the 720....morose-powerful-knife.....whatever, Thanks!
Well now that they're sold out I want one after all.
@stoopkid Yep - I'd like a few thousand more.
@snapster I hope you get more one day. Missed the 1080p version but got a consolation 720p, and then saw the idea about 3d this morning. I'd like to get my hands on more if there's a next time around.
@djslack 3d idea?
@Stumpy91 someone above (too lazy to look right now) said stick two side by side to shoot 3d video. Sounded like fun.
@snapster I bet you'd also like a few hundred fewer Beats earbuds. ;)
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
would have bought one for that price though.
I noticed soon enough before the sellout the different mounting options included with the 2 different model cameras. I saw this mounting kit on amazon: Midland XTAVP-6 Accessory Value Pack
And also spare batteries: DSTE® 2x BATT9L Rechargeable Li-ion Battery For MIDLAND XTC-200 XTC-250 Camera
@RedOak Not if neither will hold a charge to begin with like some certain bluetooth speakers from a couple weeks back.
Sold Out!!!
Damned East Coasters buying them all before the rest of the country wakes up.
@TerriblyHuang I"m in EDT and I actually saw the 1080's sell out 23 min after going online.
The number of products meh offers each day are apparently totally random and nonsensical. Which kind of makes sense when you think about it.
I have a GoPro with another $500-$600 in accessories for SCUBA diving. $30 for 200ft depth??? In for 1 even though I really don't need it. Maybe I can strap it to my GoPro pole and film the GoPro filming me?
@Bogie Angle 1: Helmet Cam, Angle 2 Camera Cam.
I rolled over at midnight EST and was like. Ooh! Not Beats. That's good. Ooh! Cheap. Wait, for what now? I meh'd it and went back to bed.
Glad to see the sellout, Meh. Glad also that now that I can't have this camera, I still don't want this camera.
Was going to buy a GoPro replica yesterday for my motorcycle helmet, and I see this today.. was so bummed 1080p ran out but 720p has bike accessories .. meh!
darn, too late! would loved to have tried attaching this to my dog.
I was upset with the beats audio earbuds boner you pulled a couple of days ago but now you have totally redeemed yourselves! Bravo! Bravo! Bought three 1080p models before they sold out in the 1st half-hour. May God bless your pointy little heads!
@equable1 May I inquire if you need all 3? If not I'll happily buy one off your hands...
I'll just leave this here
Received mine today.
@cengland0 I received my 1080p and 720p today also. My 720p came with all advertised accessories but the 1080p model came the same as yours.
@cengland0 I got the same things.
That means there were three mistakes in the description or in the packing of my box:
1. No manual
2. No 3M Stickable Mount
@cengland0 Hi..we received the camera with mount in the box; the mount and second lanyard were wrapped together.
@Kerig3 The helmet and handlebar mounts that come with the 720p model have the standard screw mount.
@cengland0 Same missing items here.
@cengland0 My 1080p version came with the mount and the second lanyard.
@cengland0 My 1080p version is missing the mount and 2nd lanyard as well. Don't really care about the lanyard ;)
@Kerig3 The case that came with my 1080p is 1/4 screw as is the camera.
@Kerig3 I'm more lost rofl... but posted for any who were lost with me incase they put it up in the future again hehe.
@Stumpy91 Yes it does, but the mount in question (the one that was supposed to come with the 1080 cam) is the sticky-pad mount that does not have the 1/4" standard camera screw. Am I wrong? If so I stand corrected. :-\
@Kerig3 Ahhh... so the mount that I didn't get wouldn't have worked anyway?
@thismyusername No prob. I was just trying to calm nerves over the weekend for those that were missing parts as I'm sure Meh will make things right eventually. I don't work for Meh, so I'll let MEH handle the pitchforked hordes in the future! LOL ;-)
@thismyusername According the the photos for the 1080dpi cam, it's the same mount that I received. I had to look again at the photo to make sure it was the same.
@Kerig3 hey when you have your camera in the case and you slide the switch on the case does the cameras record switch physically move?
Included with the 1080p cam:
Included with the 720p cam:
Just a memory refresher... ;-)
@Kerig3 You are correct.
@Stumpy91 Did you get two batteries with your order? I ordered both, but only got one battery! Hopefully MEH will send out my second.
@slloyd82 I did get 2 batteries. One in the box with each camera.
Let's get 'em.
@Konraden Pitchfork Nation.
@sctthrrmn Confirmed with the 280 (1080/720 model)... tested using an anker usb car charger.
Anyone know how the case works? I turn it on and put it in, it turns it off, I turn if off and put it in it stays off (move case switch)... looked at the manual... nothing... looked for a manual for the case... nothing... help?
@thismyusername this weirded me out. Couldn't figure out how (or if) the case switch moved the camera switch. But on closer examination: magnets.
You didn't say this, but I will: The manual is really deficient.
@thismyusername If you leave the camera "on" and slide it into the waterproof case, it will turn "off" (because of the magnet.)
@densa there is actually a ridge that pushes the switch off, you can feel it at the top front of the case.
I didn't receive a battery for my 720p camera!! Meh, please respond to my order inquiry!
@slloyd82 Did you double check? I thought I didn't get one either, eventually saw it...It's pretty small.
@MrMark Ya, I'm also missing the same mount as everyone else in the 1080p pack, but don't really care about that as much.
My 1080p camera came with no 3M sticking mount and only 1 lanyard instead of 2.
Also missing the mount for the 1080p, glad I bought the 720p with the mounts aswell.
Same issue as others: 1080p camera came with 1 lanyard instead of two and no mounts. I should have bought an extra 720p for the mounts / battery.
@einrad No. You shouldn't need to buy spares. Meh should send us all the parts we bargained for.
@Stumpy91 I got the same response and have already sent a message to Midland but have not received any reply yet.
@MrMark I contacted them and had bad luck. I posted below. They basically told me that I was SOL.
@einrad @cengland0 you're both on our list of people to work with to get their extra stuff.
@JonT I understand and I'm not complaining about the great customer service I'm receiving from Meh. I'm just surprised I haven't heard back from Midland at all. At least I got a response from you guys. Thanks.
@JonT Am I?
@rockabettygirl you are!
Hope that helps!
@MEHcus Thanks for the update. I sent a message to Midland USA. We'll see how responsive they are. I'm glad I also bought the 720p version that had all of it's mounts. I'd be more pissed if I had only purchased the 1080p version that was missing the mount like many people here have stated.
Cool. Sent email to Midland today. Will keep you updated.
@cengland0 Go ahead and reply back to your last message just to make sure it doesn't get missed.
@MEHcus Thanks. Just did that.
I received a 1080p camera and a USB cable. Nothing else! I emailed meh through their website. I haven't received any response. If nothing else, I will contest the charges and be done with meh! Seems like another meh screw-up!!!
@Wirkinman Hallelujah brother! Too many of the Meh customers here are willing to give Meh a pass on this. They need to make it right, or take the hit.
@mrken30 You may want to contact customer support to make sure you're on the list in case they get some from Midland.
@mrken30 I have not recieved the parts that were missing from my order. Midland didn't reply to my e-mails, they were rude and dismissive to me on the phone, and after an e-mail updare from Meh weeks ago I have heard nothing.
@mrken30 Still nothing from Meh or Midland. Unacceptable.
@eyewerks That sucks.
@eyewerks Has meh refused to refund the purchase price if you return it? That seems odd to me.
Update for you guys! We finally got the replacement parts in. I'll have to manually re-ship them all individually but I'll get them out to you guys as soon as I can.
@hollboll I'm sure I speak for everyone with the missing parts. THANK YOU for the update. We appreciate knowing where we are in the process.
@JonT @Snapster Wow.
@eyewerks
@eyewerks
@eyewerks
@eyewerks They used to let us see who starred our posts, then they took it away. I miss being able to see who thinks I'm brilliant.
@cengland0 Thanks for that. I have always just used the full site version in which editing SUCKS. Why should the two be different?
@mfladd I don't know why they are different but I hope one day they will update the full site to work the same way as mobile.
@Thumperchick I starred ya, 'cause I think you're awesome. You were the first person here to respond to my posts and answer my stupid questions.
@eyewerks I'm soooo glad you were trolling us and that you aren't actually crazy.
@eyewerks
@Thumperchick One person thinks you're brilliant, assuming you starred your comment yourself. ;^)
Another update!
Erryone's replacement parts shipped out yesterday. Well, execpt @Mehsen and @3XP, yours is going out on the first truck today.
@hollboll Thank you.
@hollboll Oh yeah? WHEN, yesterday?? Before or after you were serving beer to the couch potatoes?
@eyewerks "I am a dum dum."-eyewerks Source: https://meh.com/forum/topics/missing-order-history#54ed4eab4192a29400b94ac4
@eyewerks Not that I need to justify myself, but yes, they were shipped before the stream.
@hollboll I knew you guys would fix this. Oops, what I meant to say is damn you for shipping mine tomorrow!!! What if I miss a shot of a yeti or something? Shakes fist.
@eyewerks I see a shitstorm coming!
Actually, this should read: Your daily weather forecast - shit-storms are likely (as soon as @hollboll gets to work in the morning)
@hollboll Did you ship the mounts out to everyone who bought the 1080p model or to the people who emailed customer service saying the were missing?
@Stumpy91 I was told to contact customer support to make sure my name was added to a list so my assumption would be that it's only to those people who already identified themselves as missing one.
@Stumpy91 We sent them out to everyone who wrote in and double checked here to catch anyone who hadn't written in yet. You were on the list. :)
@hollboll I made a list!!! I'm somebody! : \
@Stumpy91
@Stumpy91 I must be somebody too then. I'm on several S__ lists.
@cengland0
@hollboll Ha, that's a good animated gif. I'm impressed with whoever thought of clipping that out and editing it that way. If that was you, good job!
@cengland0 Definitely not. That'd be the talented @medz https://meh.com/forum/topics/lets-meet-kyle#555f3557c61893b404a6121d
Anyone else get a poorly functioning camera? This thing works like 25% of the time. Gotta powercycle this thing more than my life support.
@dalekjoe Woohoo!
Still haven't received the replacement mounts for this.
Admittedly I have not needed them as it has sat unused in it's box on my desk since I got it, but still. . . Any update?
@sexygoldfish shoulda got them some time ago... https://meh.com/support but give them a few days to respond... it's the weekend ya know.
@sexygoldfish At this point, it's been a few months and you should write in to meh.com/support to see what they can do for you. (They'll answer some time Mon)
@thismyusername Sniped!
so I tried this thing out for the first time today (yea yea, been meaning to and all that...). anyway, it's a bummer.
@Bogie strap it to your head and record yourself creating your next masterpiece for the inktober thread
@Lotsofgoats Lol, Maybe I should.
@Bogie I just snagged one of the little HTC cams because they're down to $50 now, which is nice
@Lotsofgoats many, many Meh videos include footage from the Midland Action Camera.
@ChadP yea the footage I did get was acceptable, just unlucky enough to get a finnicky unit and lazy enough to not test the thing within the warranty period ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Lotsofgoats Story of my life right there. Sadly (or not) too lazy to change my behaviors.
@Pantheist do you mean outside of the case or inside the waterproof case?
@thismyusername it’s outside right now, but I can put it back in if that helps something.
IF you are leaning towards battery try recording with it plugged in to power and see if it records longer than 3 seconds.
@thismyusername Aha! I had no idea it would record while plugged in! Hold on
Ok:
Plugged in turned off the battery light flashes and it doesn’t register as a drive on my computer.
Plugged in turned on the battery light turns solid, sd card light turns solid, registers as a drive but doesn’t record.
What do you think?
@Pantheist try just plugging it into a power adapter (no computer) turn it on and see if it records? I have no idea if it works when connected to a machine with an actual data connection, never tried that. I just use my cigarette to usb adapter in the car when I use it as my cheap dashcam
I take it you tried another memory card and it acted the same?
@thismyusername That worked! Thanks Now you’ve got me wondering, maybe I just need to leave it plugged into the wall to charge…
@thismyusername That’s really all the was to it- it doesn’t charge from a computer. I feel silly, thanks again!
@Pantheist no problemo be safe capturing hi-jinks!
I wound up selling the 720p camera I bought to a coworker. He’s been using it five days a week for over two years now as a dashcam for his commute.
Camera continues to work great.
