Tried to post as IRK reveal thread, with photos and rants about receiving
All expired goods, but when I finished, got forbidden message and this is all that posted!
So today I think I finalized all my Christmas prep. Still some wrapping to do, but I feel like I’m in a good spot with five days to go. Stocking stuffers are a bit iffy, but my daughter is a HUGE Zelda fan, so today I 3D printed some of these. If you know you know Tomorrow I’m also expecting an IRK and a BoC from Woot… so, I think I can fill in any gaps with those. Still not sure why I volunteered to smoke a turkey on Christmas morning, but here we are.
@capnjb
Our family tradition growing up was that we ALWAYS got an orange in the toe of our stockings! And lots of nuts in their shell. I didn’t start liking fresh oranges until I was 45, obviously that didn’t matter. Lol

So did we. It was a big one (much bigger than mom bought). I am reasonably sure i twas put in there to take up space. The oranges usually came from a box of fruit that someone gave us. After we got the orange heaven help us if we ate it at 4am when we’d sneak open our stocking presents under the cover of darkness trying not to make paper crinkle noises.

Opening early would never happen in our house! We didn’t open our under the tree gifts until after dinner, usually between 4-6pm. My parents liked to wait for the whole family (mainly the grandparents) to be there. We weren’t even allowed to open just one gift on Christmas eve or Christmas morning, mom was a stickler for not caving in to her rules. So Christmas morning we were only allowed to open our stockings and my sister and I would bring everyone’s stockings into their bedroom (along with mom’s coffee ) and we’d all open them. Not before 7am though. Lol As the years passed and we became adults we both (my sister and I) missed waiting for after dinner to open gifts. Even though nobody else understands or understood, the anticipation of waiting was nice and both of us are really glad to have had it that way. I think hearing about different traditions is pretty cool.
@Kidsandliz@Lynnerizer Yeah, early opening was not an option. We weren’t allowed to go downstairs and also not allowed to wake up our parents until 7am. My sister and I would stew and stew until exactly 7am and then we would run in and jump on my parents’ bed until they got up. Then we would be blindfolded and walked downstairs and sat in front of the tree. Then our blindfolds were removed and we would marvel in all the splendor Wonderful memories.
@capnjb@Lynnerizer We had the 7am rule too. And we had to be completely dressed and eat breakfast before we could go in the living room to open presents. We weren’t allowed in there prior to that - although all of us would sneak downstairs under the cover of darkness to take a look at what was there without touching anything. We were afraid our parents knew exactly how they had set things out and then who knew what would happen (we never asked).
For us kids trying to open stocking presents (stockings were on our beds) at 4am without having any paper crinkle was part of the challenge and fun. Then ever so quietly playing with whatever we got, in the dark, was what we usually did next. For us it was part of christmas.
@capnjb@Kidsandliz@Lynnerizer My parents would make us wait a long time too (or rather my sister would). We had to have breakfast and everyone be up before we could go in to the living room where the tree was.
My sister was always last one to wake on any day. Xmas because we didn’t have school she would sleep until 11am or later… So would definitely be lunchtime before she was dressed and had breakfast.
The breakfast rule was so that we would have a proper meal and not just eat candy for breakfast.
@Kidsandliz@Lynnerizer@OnionSoup One year my dad actually snuck into our rooms while we slept and set our clocks back two hours. I remember thinking, the sun has been up for over an hour, how is it not 7am yet?!??
Thanks (I guess…)!

Merry Christmas all!
@capnjb I don’t know so I don’t know but those are pretty.
@capnjb @sammydog01 They’re loaded with cash (in-game currency in Zelda are rupees/iridescent ruby crystals)

@Lynnerizer Hah! We always got oranges too
@capnjb @Lynnerizer Maybe I’ll start a new tradition! We have a box of oranges at our house from the FFA fundraiser my kiddo recently participated in
@capnjb

You just put a ear to ear smile on my face!

@capnjb @Lynnerizer @mbersiam Same, except we got Mandarin oranges!
