One of my brothers is a musician and recently introduced me to Suno.com. If you are not familiar with it, it is a “generative artificial intelligence music creation program designed to generate realistic songs that combine vocals and instrumentation, or are purely instrumental.” Kind of like a /showme for music. Being a Suno newbie, I thought it might be fun to create a song about buying from Meh.com. After giving Suno only a few prompts by listing some items that can be bought on Meh, in less than a minute, it generated two songs. The lyrics were surprisingly spot-on. It even added to the product list. I didn’t define the genre, so it picked Funky Electronic and gave it the title “Meh.com Hauls”. Hopefully the links work. Lyrics are below. The second song would be perfect if they didn’t sing “me”.com!
@callow Yeah, that bothered me too, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to correct it that I could find. There’s no “say my name” option.
If there was a Suno station on the radio and I accidentally landed on it, I’m not sure how long it would take me to recognize anything unusual about it. (assuming they spammed commercials at the same rate as regular radio)
In other words, I’m very impressed at how good those songs sound. (I’ve listened to a few more than just the two posted.) Just like with the visual art, I think a skilled human could do much better, but this hits the 90th percentile or so. It’s better than my current skill level, and probably almost everyone I know personally.
This is becoming a very weird world.
(Maybe I should sign up and use that as my first song topic?)
I actually mind-sung the lyrics to My Favorite Things from SoM when I read them. They dond’t scan perfectly but my age shows I guess.
