Meh Yam Mayhem: An Unmehficial Contest
19
Thanksgiving. A celebration of food. No other holiday is as dominated by the menu as "Turkey Day".
As your November goat, I am therefore inviting you to join me in a food-filled celebration of meh.
The rules are simple. Create meh-themed food art. Any food. Anything meh.
Entries will be judged in three categories:
Just meh -- Use food to create the actual word "meh." (Like I did with that sweet potato up there.)
Examples: Spell it with ketchup. Arrange green beans to form the letters. Carve meh into something.
Basic Art -- Most entries that aren't the actual letters will fall into this category.
Examples: Pancake Irk. Condiment portrait of of Glen. Any image, created from food, that makes you think of meh.
Over the Top -- This category is for the people who say, "Screw mediocre, I'm awesome!" This ensures that the average mediocre person can win something without having to beat the guy who empties his fridge and pantry to create a food masterpiece.
Examples: A potato caved into the shape of a speaker dock. A 3D sculpture of TTM. A food goat?
Submissions are due by the end of Saturday, November 28th.
Everyone is qualified to participate (including mediocre staff and people who contributed prizes). You can submit as many creations as you want. The goal here is to have fun and to amass as much food art as we possibly can.
Prizes will be awarded to at least the top two submissions for each category. The prizes are a random assortment of items offered by the awesome members of this community and include a clickface shirt and something handcrafted by the amazing @jaremelz. But let's be honest... if you participate, you've already won.
Voting won't happen in this thread. After the submission deadline, I will organize all of the images into a new, clean post and we will vote to select winners. I will also post the images without names, to make voting with a bias require more effort. So don't be stingy with your stars over here.
Now get out there and show me that we are the kind of adults who play with our food!

TL;DR
Create meh-themed food art. Post pictures here by 11/28. Maybe I will send you a prize.
If image posting is an obstacle for you, reach out for help and we will get your picture up here.
@christinewas let's just put this here:
To post an image
1) Upload to image site (imgur works well)
2) Right click on the image and select "copy image url)
3) Paste that url into your comment
4) That was it. The forums will do the rest!
"Sculpture of DDM". <- ???
@FroodyFrog
"'Sculpture of DDM'. <- ???" <- ???
@christinewas
*TTM (2nd to last sentence by "over the top" category)
@FroodyFrog Tiny Tub Mummy. Conceived by @starblind in Irk's Breakfast Quest, made manifest by @jaremelz in an adorable bundle of wool, and loved by all.
@FroodyFrog
@christinewas - How can we compete with THE MEH YAM? I predict this will be an iconic symbol of meh history, next to TTM. (is that snow? Cool!)
@KDemo Yep, it's snow. I needed light and a plain backdrop, and the 12+ inches we got of snow last night was like, "Oooh! Use me! Use me!" (The snow has actually been calling to me all day.)
Just realized how perfect this is. We can enlist Thanksgiving guests to contribute to the mehyam mayhem. Brilliant!
@KDemo She's kinda awesome, isn't she? I think she's organized this beautifully, especially anonymizing the vote.
Sorry, @christinewas, I meant excedingly awesome. :-)
We're actually sitting not six feet apart in the state where they get the snow. That's awesome too.
@joelmw Thanks for clarifying that. It would probably alter my view of the entire world if I thought you considered me to only be "kinda awesome".
@joelmw - omg YES! You are so lucky to be in the snow place. And who doesn't love playing with food? Would you ask her for me if the last category has to be meh-related?
Chia, this contest is so eggsellent, I may not carrot all. Juicy what I mean?
@KDemo All categories should be meh themed. But I think we can all embrace a pretty flexible definition of what represents meh. If it makes you think of this place, however weird that may seem to the majority, it's related to meh.
@KDemo
(For the puns. Well done.)
Best contest ever- I'm so excited!
So we aren't voting here, but we are posting here, correct? I made a pretty meh dinner tonight…
@brhfl Yes.
@dashcloud Neato. Have some mehsparagus.
@brhfl Correct. And this is great!
@christinewas @brhfl "Great!"? Pretty meh actually. Perfect! Ahem, perfect.
(It's really not so mediocre, though it does kinda look like something any old schmuck could do. Yes, it's perfect. I'm even gonna say that it takes real skill to make it look so easy. I don't know if we believe me, but that's what I'm saying.)
Goat is a food . . . in fact, goat is the most widely consumed meat in the world (pork is the most consumed meat by mass).

http://modernfarmer.com/2013/09/goat-left-behind/
Do I get extra points for slaughtering the goat myself?
@Pavlov Poor @christinewas...she was so young too.
@Pavlov I cannot reward the slaughter and consumption of another goat. No bonus points. However... if you fashion goat meat or goat cheese into some sort of representation of a living goat... maybe I will get confused and throw you a star.
@christinewas @Pavlov I want to say that there's precedent for making something out of something that it already is, but I don't have the specific example to cite. I think it's probably just something that happens in my world a lot. "Hey, look at this mound of mashed potatoes that looks like a mound of mashed potatoes. Cool." Anyway, it is cool, damnit.
hey, sweet potato
@Lotsofgoats
@christinewas @Lotsofgoats
Last night i found a website giving away goat stickers. 🙌🙌🙌
@FroodyFrog Ha! Now I want goat stickers.
When I first heard about this contest, my first thought was “Great! Irk on Toast will be easy!” I am here to tell you it is not. Witness these two abominations (and these were the “best” of several attempts):
They look more like Lisa Simpson to me. So, Plan B was to go simple. Behold, Cabrito on Toast!
Well, that worked out much better, and with fewer tears. But I couldn’t stop there, and since I already had a goat template, Crescent Roll Goat was born:
Still, I couldn’t give up the dream of combining two of my loves, Irk and bread. So, with half a can of crescent roll scraps, I gave it one last mediocre shot:
@Trillian I love these! Great job! I even have a weird appreciation for the almost-disturbing "Irk on toast" results. So glad you included those!
@Trillian You're virtually begging for mediocre people to make holy pilgrimage to your kitchen, set up a shrine, tell all of the tabloids, create souvenirs, etc. Irk is basically Jesus and Elvis. And that first one is just vague enough that it might almost have occurred spontaneously.
@joelmw
I met Elvis one day. He was eating a chocolate donut.
@FroodyFrog Was there an ambiguous image of Jesus in the donut?
But seriously? That's kinda cool. I assume it was Elvis of the later years, who presumably ate a lot of donuts.
@Trillian - Hold this next to the second toast:
amiright?
Anyway, the star is for you. Great job!
@Trillian When you have a chance, please email me at christinewasmeh at gmail so we can talk prizes. Thanks!
@christinewas Done! A møøse ønce bit my sister...
I hope you've all been playing with your food this weekend!
I hesitated to do a Tiny Tub Mummy from food because everyone wants to nom her, but I went for it anyway.
If you approach her with a blender, just remember she has a whole kindle of kitten bodyguards, as well as an Epic Duckie Mount.
Ginger root with radish garnish.
@KDemo So un-meh! Love it.
@KDemo The ginger texture is perfect for mummy wrappings and the radish bow is great! She's lovely!
Hopefully ginger has enough kick to deter some naughty people. I love the stuff, but I would never nom TTM ginger!
@christinewas - Whew! One down.
Keeping my eye on @sohmageek.
@KDemo sorry I was getting the big pot ready for ttm soup
@sohmageek - Oh no no no. She is safely in her tub, surrounded by her cadre of creatures.
And she is so tiny, perhaps you should substitute something larger, a hock of ham perhaps? Or Chef Hollboll might still be frying up some delicious furballs? You should get some of those.
Is it just me or is the Meh sweet potato decidedly not meh? It's a good recreation of the actual Meh logo. :o
@jbartus Thanks! It took me a bit longer than three letters should reasonably take, but I was happy with the end result.
@christinewas as the official goat for November, I attribute all blame for the decidedly non-meh Meh carving to you.
@jbartus Accepted!
@christinewas, You must bear the blame for this lamehntable offering I have so unfortunately created.
The soup is destined for the great soup kitchen in the sky.
Happy family food fun day tomorrow, everyone!!!
You can do better than this, and it will keep the kids busy while you drink.
@KDemo This is great! I absolutely accept the "blame" for the fact that it exists!
@KDemo Wonderful!
Are you baking pies or prepping dishes for a Thanksgiving feast? Don't forget that you can win prizes by making something meh. Your family won't think it's that weird. Especially if you get them to join you in the fun.
(Note: if you wanted to do something similar to this, don't let mine stop you. I'm not competing.)
@christinewas once again you've created a decidedly non-meh piece of Meh foodie art.
As November's goat, I am once again charging you with all of the blame for the bar being set at a decidedly non-meh level for this contest. :P
@christinewas - That's truly a thing of beauty! Good thing your dad is a charter member of meh, other guests might question the dish! Hahaha. On the other hand, it's a great way to assure leftovers of your favorite dish. ;-)
Bump
Only about 24 hours left to post your images! It's fun! Really! Come play!
Here's my favorite spokestroll.
@sammydog01 Love it!
Senor Chinface
@sammydog01 This one cracked me up!
I was playing with a potato and it reminded me of Matthew somehow.
(I used red felt but his head is all food.)
@sammydog01 - Wait, so his arm lives in Glen? Not sure how that works.
;-)
End of the meal, last bits of turkey, stuffing and potatoes on the plate:
@joelmw With gravy?
@joelmw - No cranberry? I had take-out sushi for dinner Thursday, and this is the first I've missed traditions.
Now, you clean your plate, young man!
@joelmw mmmm, gravy
@KDemo We had some awesome organicish, berry-y cranberry sauce this year. I like to keep it in a bowl, separate from the other stuff. I always eat more cranberries than anyone else eats.
Cranberry is also my favorite juice. It's good with vodka too. When we had the choice of colors for meh shirts, this is what I got.
We used to make a steamed cranberry pudding (with molasses) and honey buttery sauce. It was amazeballs. Alas, no one has adapted (because, flour) it yet. It was cranberry-popping delicious. It was pretty close to this, but with honey and not sugar and I'm not sure exactly what else.
So, no, yes.
Since there were relatively few submissions, I've decided to skip the voting and send a prize to everyone who participated. Thanks for playing!
You're the BEST, @christinewas.
to all who didn't play.
@christinewas I had fun anyway. Thanks!
My entry took the least effort out of all of them, but I thought it was a great contest with a hilarious name;
goat stuff,good stuff, @christinewas!@christinewas
@christinewas Well I think it was good. Damnit.
Chia Up Sucker
finally sprouted (only a week late), but you can't see the spirals :-(
@KDemo You are very creative and maybe just a tad demented.
Why, thank you @Barney!
If I appear demented, I'll consider this a success ;-)
@KDemo May you always be this successful.
@KDemo I kind of want to eat it, is that weird?
@brhfl - I can see that. On a bun with a little avocado and some sunflower seeds? I'll send you the recipe for the sucker. Haha
@KDemo Awesome!
