Meh shirt versus Woot shirt...uhhhhh.........
1So in an interesting turn of events, I received a meh t shirt today (the Mediocre Lab shirt for VMP folks) and a woot t shirt as well (a holiday themed Cthulhu shirt). The woot shirt looks like a TENT compared to the meh shirt. Both are XL, but man, woot's XL is a HUGE XL and meh's is a skinny hipster XL. I'll snap a photo before I wash and dry on hot and hope for the best.

Because meh is using American Apparel shirts, like woot USED to. You'll notice sporadic comments about this throughout the forums. Beware, the woot shirts will also not wear nearly as well.
@Cinoclav I hadn't bought from woot in AGES, so I didn't know. I'm not too happy right now. The shirt isn't just big as a tent, it's actually tent SHAPED. NOT flattering. Not flattering at all.
Mrs. cengland0 gets complimented all the time on her "meh" t-shirt. I've never heard anyone compliment her on any of the woot shirts that she wears.
The female "AA" blanks that are used for the meh shirt fits properly. The woot shirts have a large neck hole and fit her more like a dress and does not accentuate her curves.
Women's shirt from Woot? Sounds like you got one of the neckstretch Anvils as opposed to the more recent mutant Anvils.
FWIW, they seem to STILL HAVE NO IDEA of what's going on!
@Sparky_Susan Oh, as for drying on hot ... the shirts shrink lengthwise, not widthwise. You'll just end up with a shirt about 10% shorter than it already is. I posted a comparison pic in the mega Anvil thread.
@narfcake THANK YOU. Whew. It's already short (and WIDE as a damned elephant). I guess I'm screwed.
@Sparky_Susan If you have a sewing machine, @ochopika (now shirt.woot editor) posted a tutorial on altering them.
@narfcake No sewing machine. I'm disappointed, but after seeing the shape of the shirt, even had I ordered a medium, it would still be ugly.
I just tried this thing on, and jesus christ it looks like a maternity top. I would ask my mom to alter it for me, but I don't think she'd appreciate the design (looks like a holiday sweater, but with Cthulhu and an inverted pentagram, heh).
@narfcake Nice altering technique but it doesn't address the large neck hole and what to do at the arm pit area. I bought a serger/sewing machine kit from Woot a couple years ago and the serger would be perfect for that alteration.
@cengland0 Neckhole fix: http://shirt.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=5253954
@cengland0 As for the armhole/sleeves, that's full on reconstructing. I'll have to do that if I'm to make any of the mutant Anvils wearable; as it is, they pinch my armpits.
@narfcake That neckhole fix is a big no-go for me. It looks as if you're just reducing the size of the internal elastic material. It puckers the shirt and I don't think that looks good. It would be very difficult to fix correctly because the rest of the shirt was cut around the large neckhole and you can make holes larger but not smaller. Even if it was possible, the amount of work required is not worth that much of my time.
@cengland0 It's mainly reducing the ribbing back to its original size. This works best when the shirt is still new/unwashed, and the elastic enclosed in its relaxed state. The Nicaraguan shirts can be made decent; the Honduran ones are indeed cut too wide already and can merely be made acceptable IMHO. Mostly a moot point now, though, what with the mutant shirts and all.
@narfcake You mean it's a non-moot point? https://meh.com/forum/topics/useless-english-word-a-day-sleuth#546b0e65dee59af00278cae2
@cengland0 Probably an academic distinction at this point.
I haven't bought anything from Woot since June. So they sent me a $10 off a $25 or greater order. Or maybe they sent it to everyone, and just worded the email to make me feel special. Obviously I won't be using the coupon on shirts. I'm wondering if I will use it for anything before it expires on Christmas day.
@hamjudo Nope, not everyone. I didn't get a coupon.
@cengland0 Me neither.
@hamjudo I got one and in the fine print it says your purchase has to be $25 before tax and shipping. I looked around today but not sure if I will buy anything with it. It is good for a month or so. It worked though I went and looked at the site for once in a long while
@hamjudo I didn't. Not even sure it would sway me at this point. I'm quite disenchanted with woot these days.
@hamjudo I had $10 off $15 coupon from the wootcrate debacle. I didn't use it. Having been scrooged already by mutant shirts, I know they are not worth even $5.
@hamjudo Thanks for mentioning it -- checked my email and found one, also. I'll probably use it. I don't spend much time there anymore, either. I usually just look at the main item, and mouse over the other categories at the top of the page. Most of their shenanigans lately seem to involve way too much video.
@walarney Give me a heads up when there is something priced at $25 or above worth buying at $10 off. I don't check that often, now that they are slowly killing @snapster s baby.
@hamjudo Does it work on wine? That's the only thing I bother paying attention to on woot, and it is often worth it. Barring that, Thursdays are non-wine days on wine.woot, and sometimes they have tasty looking (but still seemingly overpriced) treats that might be worth it at $10 off.
@hamjudo Yup. I got one one as well. Miss the old days of a straight coupon code with no strings attached.
@brhfl No. Coupons no worky on wine
@nadroj I got one from that crate too.. I was one of the lucky ones that used it before they changed the rules on us, and ended up getting 2 free shirts out of the deal!
@heli0s Lucky!
@hamjudo I got one of the coupons also. I won't be using it. Anyone want it?
@bluedog I think Woot coupons are also linked to your account so they are not transferable.
@heli0s I hate to admit this and get yelled at, but before they changed the rules, even if you didn't order the crate, the coupon worked. So, I also got free shirts. I completed my Unstealthy Ninja collection.
I'm a big ball of regret and self-loathing right now. Which I suppose is how we're meant to feel this time of year anyway, so I guess it all works out...
@Sparky_Susan Thanksgiving in two days! Eat until that shirt fits!
@Cinoclav You're a genius!
American Apparel is too pornographic of a company for me to support, but I did buy a Meh shirt for my wife. Boom chica wowwow.
@phatmass But seriously Meh, you should look into using either Next Level Apparel or Tultex. Those brands get the most praise from my clients and my own closet.
@phatmass Yeah, their advertising and catalogs show a lot of skin, but they are by no means pornographic. As for the other shirts, Tultex is decent, but not great; they're not as soft, but the Mexico production is consistent and the price is right. NLA ... oooh, they're super soft, though their stretchiness means prints are more likely to get distressed too; that's my experience/opinion anyway with various DBH and TT shirts.
@narfcake Thats weird, because I think Tultex are softer than AA--maybe it's because they are thinner than AA so the drape makes them feel softer. I have AA, Tultex and Next Level in my closet and I rarely find myself grabbing a AA shirt unless they are the only ones left. Tomato tomatoe.
I have had nothing but bad luck with the AA shirts from Meh which was odd because the AA shirts I got from KALW 91.7fm, 99% Invisible (Podcast) & the Doggie Diner Kickstarter all fit as advertised....
Is there more than one type of AA t-shirt?
@iRattus Men/unisex = one type, Women (juniors) = another. What did you buy? And equally important, did you refer to the respective sizing charts when you ordered?
My women's XL Mediocre Lab/VMP t-shirt is TINY! I checked the size charts & even had a screen chat with the AA folks before ordering to make sure I had the right size. Booo.
@spammie Mine too. I took one look at it and said Nope! Not wearing THAT until I lose weight again. It would maybe work for a transguy's binder.
