Meh needs to step up their game to match this disappointment
2From the Random thread, @xarous mentioned the shirt.woot School Mystery Crate
Truly a masterful work of disappointment on every level.
@Snapster - I imagine this is the level of disappointment you've been aiming for, and I certainly hope you can sell this level of disappointment someday. It would make a good experiment to find out if you can have an offering so disappointing that people actually don't feel worse on receiving it.

Yet another case where the billion dollar corporation has squashed the small business. Our mastery of disappointment may not achieve this level until we hire more MBAs.
that said, those are some cool plushes and the lunch box art rocks.
@snapster Thanks!
@snapster Oh, the plushes....
@snapster MBA ... as in (M)erchandise (B)ungling (A)pes? ... or (M)anure (B)agging (A)ssistants?
@narfcake Meh Basketball Association?
I like the current mind fuck where they flipped the value of the boosted coupon back to original and those that bought 1 or 2 crates could use the couple twice. If you bought 3 or more crates.....you could only use said coupon twice. So troll.
@xarous I now have to go read through pages of butthurt to see what happened. :/ Stupid Shirt Crate
@xarous I read. I'm going to guess that it's a mistake and whoever edited the original coupon didn't make the change active through 10/31. But I'm also sure it won't be fixed until Monday, giving people a chance to utterly lose their shit in the forums all weekend.
@xarous I was one of the 2,000 that bought the "crate" and was successful at using the coupon. Wait it gets better.....................π While everyone was busy typing away on the forum voicing their dissatisfaction with the contents of their "crates" I was busy placing my order with my coupon code. (Thought going through your head as your reading this): How is that anything special, ooooohhhhh you used your coupon whoopteeFNdooo. NO NOT only did I use my coupon I used it 34 TIMES! 32 of the 34 were shirts. The 32 INDIVIDUAL orders with INDIVIDUAL shipping for the shirts came in at a grand total cost to me of $ZERO$ dollars. Yep ZERO for 32 shirts shipped individually. I checked my email and account about every 30 minutes with great anticipation of a message from Woot that my orders have been canceled. Boy was I shock when I started receiving a flood of shipping confirmations with tracking numbers. Three shirts have arrived and the others are in route. But wait it gets better.....!!!!!!! Just to be an ass I ordered one special shirt that couldn't have been more suiting under the circumstances, it reads on the shirt: i didn't need this shirt but i had a coupon. On order 35 the coupon code finally triggered the ol' this code is not valid. Just thought I'd share my story with you all. Thanks for reading, Alex
@alexdaicos Yeah, but how many of those shirts are centered correctly? ; )
@darksaber99999 π
I am one of those that clicked thru on that woot. After the biggest delay I ever experienced with woot, I got the garbage they packed and passed on as the mystery crate. I got two of them. And my coupons are for five dollars each. Their assumption is that I will use that coupon. Pfat chance. Hated them for what they did. They have abused my trust.
@sain They changed the coupons to $20 ($15 off an item, $5 off shipping) briefly. Then they changed their mind.
@sain In theory, it's now $10 off a $15 purchase on shirt.woot.
So, in general:
Woot Bag of Craps = Awesome!
Woot random items that aren't BOCs = Terrible!
And I don't just mean a little disapointing. Some of them have been borderline fraud by not sending out what was advertised--for example, the random kids' pack weren't supposed to contain clothes, but a bunch of people got costumes that didn't fit their kid. And those who complained got curt messages from customer service just saying the stuff couldn't be returned.
What I don't understand is: WHY? Not only is it obviously stupid from a business/brand-building perspective, it just makes no sense. Presumably the same employees do both, so why are they great with BOCs and hopeless with the random packs--which are really just themed BOCs?
@Starblind BOCs weren't always awesome, especially post Amazon when hundreds of them were indistinguishable from each other. Apparently still better than this cluster-bleep though...
@Starblind Reading through the thread above, apparently they were trying a Loot Crate style offering.
@duodec Yeah and the real BOCs are only $3 plus shipping unlike the imposter random stuff they sell. If you get crap for $8, it's no big deal. If you pay more for something advertised as better than a BOC, it's disappointing to say the least when you get crappier crap than crap.
@Starblind They seemed to think that the Back to School crates would really, really please people. At $25, no less, and with the description of a plethora of items...I have to wonder whether Woot is long for this world, Amazon or no Amazon.
I ordered the random NFL items thing from woot a while back and got totally screwed. They didn't send the amount of items promised and the items I did get were worse than dollar store junk. It was bad and left me greatly depressed.
Amazon used to be a leader in utilizing big data to get customers to buy more stuff. Compared to their competitors, they were much better at making relevant suggestions to customers. They were generally good at not suggesting things that were out of stock, and other such appropriateness checks.
That was then. At 2:22AM Central time on October 12th they sent me this:
With links and information about the October 11th sellout.woot.com deal. They weren't just two and a half hours too late, the item had sold out before 4PM.
Like the rest of Amazon, it appears that the big-data-robo-spam division does not understand Woot's business model.
Sorry for the double post.... However I think this post is worth reading twiciey.

@alexdaicos I'm willing to bet that you are a big part of why some people who bought 3 crates are only getting to use the code twice.
@Thumperchick yeah it's all my fault π nice comment but I'm pretty sure YOUR WRONG. Keep up the good work, hope you weren't one of the suckers who bought 3π’
@alexdaicos No no, it's October. That makes it MY fault. It seems that your misuse of your is my fault as well. bleat
@Thumperchick - Didn't know you had to be the grammar goat as well? Your doing great!
@KDemo Spelling, Grammar, Scape - I'm 3 goats in one!
@Thumperchick Please found alls them errors with this sentance at you're convention. When YOUR finished edyiting mi poste' pleaze sent I you're emailz adress so me can sent mi skool workz four u too graid two.
I though it must be my internet, modem, router, or mobile device but I was mistaken. Nope, it's been you all along making the internet suck! Just go away...
@Thumperchick Probably. And possibly why it was prematurely stopped. Folks abusing it screws it up for everyone else.
I've had a fair share of shirts comped because they didn't print correctly, but I would never fathom taking advantage of such goodwill gestures.
@alexdaicos I'm all up in your internets like
@narfcake another coupon code cop. Please don't tell John that I used his 40% off code 5 times this year when ordering Papa Johns online. Damn I was wondering why they ran out of cheese... Get over it peeps, the coupon didn't have any print on it stating one time use nor did Woots site when applying the code. If you really think that my use of the coupon shut the water off your assumptions are ridiculous. So next time you spend 30 minutes surfing through google for an online coupon code for that item in your online shopping cart no matter the website just remember you are misusing it and others will suffer.
@alexdaicos It's not coupon code cop; it's conscience.
Social experiment complete. Someone say gullible? Come-on now you really think wootAzon would actually send out 30+ items for $0. Really, they barely sent out $15 worth of shit in a "crate" for $25+tax. Pretty neat to see how quick people will shift their focus from the seller who got over on them to the consumer who benefited from the same situation. If it makes you feel better just keep on pretending that I stole your coupon code, after all it's my fault you sent $25+ to a billion dollar company blindly only to get mad at them for not meeting your expectations. Just give your money to a junkie and hope she buys formula for her infant....
@alexdaicos Justify it however you want, what you did was wrong. If you have to call other people "gullible" or "suckers" to make your actions seem "smart" then you obviously know that what you did was beyond shady.
@Thumperchick Blaaahhhhhaaaa I can't believe you really believe this is real. Maybe I should just keep this going because there will always be people like you! Gullible!!!! After all everything you read on the internet is true right. Get a grip, or not as I find this very humorous and can't wait to hear what comes off the tips of YOUR fingers next!
@alexdaicos We are here to have fun, not to deceive fellow mehpersons and not to call them names. Frankly at this point, from your posts, even if you made the whole thing up, you obviously think that doing it is ok. That trying to "experiment" on your fellow forum members is ok and that then bashing them and making fun of them is ok. It is not. None of it is cool. Perhaps an" I told a tall tale that went too far , sorry" would be appropriate. We are a forgiving lot.
@ceagee, ceagee, ceagee. A troll is a troll, is a troll...
@barnabee and a roll is a roll.
@Thumperchick Sorry for misleading all with my tall tell. I apologize and I will not do this again as I have disrupted the synergy amongst the group. As for woot goes it has gone to shit and I'm glad to see the OG guys doing it up again on meh. Again, I'm sincerely sorry for my deception and I'll keep my stories for my kids at bedtime. Much love, meh...
@narfcake it is too bad that this turned out to not be a "goodwill gesture" in the end but an error on woots part. I actually really hope that at least a few of woots unappreciated customers did get one over on them and use the coupon several times when it was 20.00. Woot isn't a small company trying to have fun anymore, they are a greedy corporate machine that has forgotten about customer satisfaction. They will not hesitate to take advantage of their customers, remember that. Make no mistake, corporate giants like Amazon (what woot has become) are at war with us for our money, and all's fair.....as they say. So to you, MarAprMeh, I really really hope your story is actually true, I'll feel better about the 50.00 I threw at them willingly.
Yeah, I am one of those former Woot loyalists who hadn't been back in a while, but got sucked into the School Crate. Bought it, was as disappointed as others. No, I was not expecting a BoC, but that's because around here, we understand that "crap" really does mean crap. My sweetie helps run a weekend event that frequently has Woot as a guest, providing said crap-filled bags to every attendee. My understanding is that they had to stop inviting Woot, because so much crap was being left behind by the attendees. Piles of crappy...crap. We have a whole box of it here, a box of the contents of boxes of crap.
I realize that some folks think of said bags as a kind of lottery ticket -- that they may get a monitor or an iPad, or whatever -- and well, there's a sucker born every minute. And thanks for the update about the crate coupon -- I was still expecting it was the increased amount. If it's back down to $5, I doubt we're gonna use it.
@Trin When Woot "fixed" it, the coupon was good for $15 off, plus free shipping on ANY Woot purchase. Now it's back down to the original amount of $5 off a $15 purchase in shirt.woot only. The whole thing has been a freakin' cluster- (can I say clusterfuck here?). Shipped a week late, contained total crap, hell, mine didn't even contain all the crap it was supposed to. Sure, some were expecting to hit the jackpot with BOC type items. I just wanted what they described. What I got was a cheap t-sirt, a tin lunch box, a couple dollar store items and a coupon that's useless.
@Trin Hopefully they will fix the coupon issue for those of us who haven't used it yet. That said, I'm not holding my breath. Like ruouttaurmind, I wasn't expecting boc, but was expecting something more than trade show swag.
@ruouttaurmind You forgot the part where the unfixed coupon has already expired.
@MsELizardBeth The code should be good through the end of the month. I tried just now and it shows a $5 discount if I apply it to a shit.woot order.
@nadroj a shirt.woot order for more than $15, which rules out most of the stuff I would want on shirt.woot. They did extend the coupon through 11/15 and double it - but it's still a minimum $15 and only applicable to shirt.woot. I don't need any more shirts and they don't really have anything that I want for my two year old that he didn't get (at least once) in the last random shirt sale. (Because EVERY toddler needs TWO navy blue shirts with coffee on them...)
I stopped complaining about woot here months ago, because some folks thought I was over doing it. I just ignore the emails from them, I rarely go to that site anymore
@somf69 Then you were lucky enough to have NOT been suckered into the School Crate fiasco.
http://shirt.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=6013518
I guess this was the final ruling and the 20 dollar coupon was just a bug.
@xarous Well shit.
@xarous so much for billion dollar corporation saving the day.
@xarous I'm still confused and I don't feel like reading the thread. Why did they give out the coupon? Was it in the crate? Or was it given out in response to the crappy crate contents?
@jsh139 Coupon code was for $5 off $15 or more purchase at Shirt.Woot or something similar. It was in each "crates". Because of the poor response, delay in shipping, and other issues staff came on thread and said it was boosted to $15 off any Woot site (an extra $5 off if charged shipping). Staff then ignores users for a week and then comes back to say that the increased value was a bug, but in good faith you can get $10 off a Shirt.Woot order of $15 or more.
@jsh139 Also the coupon expired Oct/31 when most people hadn't gotten theirs by 10/15. Now they delayed the expiration of the coupon to 11/15.
@xarous Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation.
@jsh139 TL:DR it was a shit sandwich.
@Thumperchick Sounds like it! Glad I steered clear of that one.
@Thumperchick appropriate contents for the lunchbox?
And then staff said that all those who took advantage of the coupon/bug that they had won the mini lottery. Either way staff and Woot fucked up again on a mystery item/box/crate. This was suppose to be a Woot-style LootCrate subscription box, but it wasn't worth the $25. Well only if the $20 coupon stuck and you got to use it for each crate you ordered.
@xarous If it hadn't been trade show swag instead of shit people would actually want maybe some of the "This is like a loot crate" concept would have carried over.
So here's my saga of the Shirt Crate. I ordered one, and I was not expecting a BoC (I had previous luck with BoC's in the pre-Amazon days, but none since). I figured I would get $25 worth of goods though. My expectation was a lunch box, maybe a journal, a couple of t-shirts and maybe a mouse pad or something. I figured the 'something to cuddle' might be like, a teddy bear with Woot art on it or a stuffed monkey.
I got nothing.
No, seriously, as of today, a month later, I still do not have my crate. Or my coupon. Finally, on my fourth contact with Woot customer service, today they refunded my purchase (which may take a few days, they say). The mail was a form letter, there was a 'we're sorry' but it hardly seems like a sincere apology. So basically, they got to hold onto my money for a month, I get nothing, and I'm out maybe all told a half hour of dealing with stuff to try and get my order.
When a company screws up this bad, with this many customers, they need to do more than offer about the same coupon they've always offered as part of a normal purchase. After this and some previous issues I've had with them, I'm done.
@footnotegirl Just for the heck of it, why don't you see if the coupon code still works on your account. If it does you could go back and order one of the prior T-shirts that sale for $15. You would need to do this before your cancelled order shows up in their system.
@footnotegirl Consider yourself lucky. I'd rather thave my $25 back.
@footnotegirl Out of curiosity, how much money do you think they earned in interest for keeping your $25 for a whole month after they paid the credit card fees and staff to handle this issue for you. Although this doesn't seem like a good experience, I seriously doubt this was a ruse to hold onto your money for a month.
I was one of the "lucky" ones who ordered the school "crate" with a "plethora" of stuff in it. After reading what others were getting, I called Fedex and had them return the order. To their credit, Wamazon refunded my $25 the next day. Then I read the value of the coupon had been increased to $15 + $5 shipping and was a little bummed I returned it.
When they changed it to $10 off $15 at shirt.woot only, I got an email gleefully informing me of this bounty I couldn't use because I'd returned it. So I went back to the forums and people are more pissed than ever because of the coupon value switch. (Yeah, I tried it - no go for me. Seems they got one thing right.) So I'm done with woot and their constant offloading of Amazon merchandise at slightly discounted prices.
I AM curious to see what happens with the random crappy desktop computers sold for $99 a week or two ago - need to see if I can find that.
@venussuz Please do- I'm really curious about a random computer sale.
@dashcloud Here's the write up. Click on join the discussion for the results. I haven't read it yet, but it could be interesting... http://computers.woot.com/offers/random-dual-core-windows-7-desktops
@barnabee Thanks!
