Meh meh meh, what do *you* want from Meh?
7Hmmm. Bored. HDMI cables, 3 year old hrm watches, mops, cheap speakers, not so much. :(
I want something drooling-cool, like Sennheiser HD800s. Or something I never heard of and don't need and have no space for and cant afford and it will make me psychotically dysfunctional, but I have to max out the card now for it.
There is the first-world problem of being bored by shopping, and the first world problem of getting something ridiculous and technologically amazing because I imagine my fantasy-karma taking off as I click "buy". Guess which problem I like better?
I am so very shallow.
So. Fulfill me. Surprise me. Don't let me down!

Those mini drones! I want to buy more
@retroblue
They're doing well with the drone offers. Just want them to represent our variety of obsessions in the "cool" offers.
Wasnt the first thing woot offered some kinda combo portable music player that was both a tiny weigh-nothing player and a hard drive player, depending on your mood? Back when? I wanted one, but settled for an ipod that decade.
I want to see something that hits me like that at 11pm.
Some high quality bookshelf speakers would be cool.
@stevo42
I would totally buy these. I just lost a nice set of speakers (Boston Acoustic) that were eaten in transit. Now i have to start speaker shopping again.
@stevo42 @f00l Try these. Seriously. Dayton Audio 652
$29.00 through Jan, I think. Dirt cheap, but sound great.
Read the reviews. There's some serious geeks and audiophiles that like these a lot. I have a few pairs and am very pleased with them. The smaller version (4") really aren't as "wow" as the 6.5's. YMMV.
Rocket boots...my son is dying for rocket boots!
@cbilyak
If these exist i wanna be 8 years old again please.
Must hit youtube.
@f00l they are on sci-fi shows and Disney cartoons! These do exist http://www.overstock.com/Sports-Toys/Roller-Skating/19656/subcat.html?featuredproduct=10163638&featuredoption=15433779&cid=202290&kid=9553000357392&track=pspla&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=17292242-000-000&gclid=CJKip_myk8oCFYQ6aQodyvcHYw but I just do not want to spend $500!
Injinji toes sock, step up your sock game meh.
@Catdad
Yeah cool weird sports tech. Like good toe sox. Or how about some high-tech Tarahumara running sandal knockoffs like Luna Sandals?
@f00l omg just looked into Luna Sandals.... now I want a knockoff pair!!!!
@connorbush
If you like Luna Sandals, there are other variations. Xeroshoes makes some i particularly like, they are v nice to run in. Zero!! support, so you ankles and arches will need to get used to that. If you wear them around daily, your feet will be stronger and feel different in a month. Alsi if your stride is messed up (heel striker) take it easy w them.
All that stuff about pronation...i am no kinda expert. Not at fitness, not at running. But...i read the running coaches at Stanford make the athletes run barefoot a lot. And then they seem to run better. Worth a try?
The luna sandals come with thicker soles, so perhaps better for really rough surfaces. The xeroshoes are thinner and more flexible.
Sometimes they show up on Ebay, just search "running sandals". Some ppl on ebay custom hand-make them to spec.
There are also running sandals made by Vivobarefoot. Some are normal sandals, but not as adjustable as i would like. Another kind looks really really weird, but fits well, is v comfortable, and v nice to run in. Just looks too weird for street wear.
Sizing: either US street size or Vibram size. Since they are sandals, you can get away w going up or down.
Besides, i hate wearing shoes, even tho today i have on LL Beans cause it was cold at 5am.
I suppose i am way better at shopping than at running. ;(
Sriracha, bacon, sausage, ham, cheese and eggs.
no wait... that's just what i'm eating right now. soooo... maybe some napkins?
@carl669
Can i come over and eat with you?
Am a veggie at home (personal pref + health theories) but i can be converted to The Dark Side for special foodie temptations....
@f00l this was from jack in the box, so nothing special. if you want special, we made a standing rib roast (aka prime rib) on christmas from the 1/4 cow we bought in april (organic, grass-fed, free range, hippie granola cow). O.M.F.G! the absolute best prime rib i've ever had in my life.
edit: and oddly, i eat meat for the same reason you eat veggies at home. (i do also like veggies, but only as a side. i even recently conquered my 40+ year hatred of broccoli.)
@carl669
Growing up in Texas...my parents used to buy 1/2 cow at a time. So if parents went out, instead of pizza, mom would say, there's filet mignon and t-bone in the freezer, she had put some out to thaw. I still love steak, just not often.
Re health...8 ball indicators clouded. So many theories, often so little science.
My personal take: processed food bad. Refined grains/added sugars/salts/fats v bad. Excess carbs bad except for unprocessed, v low glycemic carbs. This is hard on me since i am a doritos/cookies addict.
However, well-designed longeavity studies w reliable data and well-reviewed methadology seem to point somewhat consistently to unrefined foods and low intake of animal sourced foods being highly correlated w long life and low incidence of chronic deseases, cancer, cardiovascular, alzheimers, etc blah blah blah.
All my info come from books and the internets. I have zero "serious" knowledge.
@f00l
this was my first time getting beef directly from the farm. i have to say, there's nothing else like it. the store bought stuff (even the grass-fed, organic, free range) just can't compare. for lack of a better description, the beef flavor is just incredible. it doesn't really require fancy sauces or seasonings.
agreed. however, the studies i've read having to deal with high fat intake being bad also seem to neglect that processed carb intake was also high. the studies conclude fat is bad, without taking into account the high fat, high carb interaction. person eats a hamburger, coke and fries once a day, every day and yet they single out the fat as the culprit? i don't think so. and don't even get me started on the guy i used to work with that drank a half gallon jug of soda every day, but ate low fat and couldn't figure out why he couldn't lose weight.
from personal experience, high fat (quality saturated fats - olive oil, kerrygold butter, as close to unprocessed meat as i can afford, etc), low carb (<20g/day initially, now i'm around 50g/day) worked quite well for me. i lost 100+ lbs and my energy levels are incredibly stable now. the more i ditched the refined foods, the more i learned to like new foods, especially veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, etc). my total cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides plummeted and my HDL shot way up.
i guess what this shows is that there is no one size fits all way of eating. and that's what it has to be, a way of eating. diets fail because they imply short term results will lead to long term success. i can't even being to count the number of threads on the fitbit forums that basically say "i lost x amount of weight some time ago and i fell off the wagon and now it's back so i'm ready to lose it again". you know what? stay on the wagon until you hit a place that works for you. then jump off and building a house there.
side note: that breakfast i ate is a once in a while thing. normally, it's just coffee with heavy cream. on some days, it's a 3 egg omelette with cheese or, if i want something sweet, coconut flour pancakes with homemade whipped cream and berries).
side side note: i managed and entire post without swearing. fuck yeah!
@carl669
Unprocessed low glycemic carbs good, other carbs to avoid or treat like dessert, check.
Added sweeteners to processed drinks (esp corn-based sweeteners) is pure evil in my belief craziness.
Also unprocessed natural, historical fats (including grass-fed beef, butter from free-range dairy cows, coconut oil, olive oil, nut oils, avocados, etc good. Margarine, most fried foods, most added fats bad, check.
I sorta buy into some paleo. Some paleo people seems to have found more "religion" than rationality, which bugs me. Also, i suspect the paleo ban on whole grains (esp legacy grains) and legumes is way off. Some paleo people seem to forget that, aside from a few glacier bodies, we have little hard evidence as to what paleo people ate, if they cooked or processed ingredients, or how much they may have cooked, etc.
Two other personal quibbles w paleo: one is that i dont wanna eat animal sourced food all the time - a personal thing. The other is that well-designed v thorough and long-running studies regarding the dietary practices of long-lived population groups and of population groups that show w long incidence of serious debilitating disease in aging persons indicate far lower animal-sourced food habits than those of similar genetics groups w shorter, less healthy lives.
What to make of all this? I just do my best, try to eat tasty stuff my grandmother would think was decent food, and sometimes cant live w/out doritos that day.
@carl669 keto diet?
@stevo42 initially, yes. probably keto for the first 6 months or so. though i never actually checked ketone levels.
@carl669 fantastic, I have lost 135 lbs since February on keto.
@carl669 Ever try roasting broccoli? I like broccoli steamed and sauted, but roasting it brings out an amazingly amped-up flavor.
@magic_cave in my past, i cooked it every way conceivable and still hated it. around last april, i went to a chinese place near us. a waiter walked by with a plate of broccoli beef and it smelled really, really good. so, i got it and discovered i suddenly liked it. i'd have to say that my current favorite method of cooking it, is not to. with most veggies, i like them raw with a little bit of ranch, bleu cheese or just come olive oil with minced garlic in it.
World Peace and for everybody to just get along.
Kitchen gadgets and Survivalist nutjob stuff is usually cool too.
@cranky1950
Survivalist stuff can get by my "rational purchase" filter, no prob, so that's good.
I love more random, less electronics. The citizen watch I got here I wear every day.
@DrunkCat
G-shocks get to me. I know a watch addict. I dont think he's weird.
@DrunkCat I'd love to see some more Casio watches; Citizen or Seikos also.
Food Stuffs/Consumables (supplements).
Remember, one man's "drooling cool" is another man's "meh."
@Teripie
So variety in the "cool" category.
I dunno, mops and cables and 3 year old tech usually not cool? And way cheap headphones (priced retail) not cool unless killer bluetooth?
MOAR KITCHEN GADGETS
panasonic immersion blender #neverforget
@Lotsofgoats
Mauviel? And standards like Vitamix and Blendtech and Omega? Kitchen knives that you will buy even if you already have enuf?
I need a deal on a newer model neato or roomba that I can't refuse. My old meh neato needs batteries again, the maintenance $$ is starting to pile up. But I can't go on without my robot cleaning helpers.
Much as I like drones and all things flyable... I admit, I miss the days when you just never knew what to expect, and the variety included more everyday useful stuff. Like the 2-fer-Tuesday Emerson 39" TV's or the Cobra GMRS 2-way radios or the Oregon Scientific emergency radios or... you know, something besides microwave chip makers or bacon bowl bundles.
I really want JBL Micro in white.... Is that so much to ask for? :)
@sohmageek
I hope not. If we cant ask for that, what's left?
Off season, but supremely useful stuff at a ridiculous discount. Like a decent/nice grill... this month.
Or, since this is where my brain is lately - baby/kid stuff.
@Thumperchick
Any preference for a grill?
I remember going shopping for a grill once. The salesperson was showing an 8 burner grill, and they said it could fit in my bathroom.
Technically, almost ANY grill being sold for residential use would fit in my bathroom.
The only downside was that it would restrict room to walk around by a little bit.
@FroodyFrog No direct preference right now. Our current model is due for replacement. 4 burners, propane; nothing fancy, just gets the steak cooked.
@Thumperchick
So what I'm hearing (err... reading) is that you want a standard grill.
Ok, ok. I can certainly understand that.
Just one question however.
How do you expect that to be efficient when we come over to your house to try out the new grill?
@Thumperchick if you have any desire to get into sous-vide (or even not) consider one with one of those infrared searing units on it :)
@Thumperchick
Whoops, completely misread what you wrote.
If you want a nice grill, may i recommend the K750HS Hybrid Fire Freestanding Grill with Side Burner?
@FroodyFrog What I'm looking for is a deal more than anything.
@thismyusername mmmmm
@thismyusername
Great. Now I'm hungry. It's your fault (for both literal , and illteral [somehow, I don't think that's right] reasons).
Actual hover boards, not those little electric wheeled thingies. Nothing cooler than breaking the laws of physics.
@PocketBrain
http://mobile.geek.com/latest/253713-the-hoverboard-is-real-just-add-water
Every time i see articles talking about the ones with wheels and how they have been causing fires, i cringe since i realize people are associating then with the term "hoverboard", and then i get upset since people start getting the wrong idea about future technology.
Speaking of which, since Amazon has only been allowing certain brand of the wheeled variety on their site, and because of new safety procedures, apparently production in a lot of Chinese plants have gone down dramatically. Then again, that just leaves room for more plants to start producing other versions...
@FroodyFrog
@carl669
@carl669 is he a chess nut?
@PocketBrain
One word: ArcaBoard
Leftover LED Christmas light sets
Leftover fog generators (for Halloween)
Leftover Christmas ornaments
Sous Vide cookers!
Infrared illuminators
Night vision equipment (ooh... night vision equipped drones...)
Diesel generators!
Tamiya RC tanks!
@duodec Oooh, super cheap but functional sous vide would be a good one.
@Thumperchick @duodec @buyersofmeh how bout some of these for $100?
http://anovaculinary.com/anova-precision-cooker/
@carl669 $100 is way over what I would pay to play with a SV.
@duodec I could go for a dual fuel genny. 4000 watts ought to do it. Gas/propane powered or diesel/propane, I'm easy. Oh, and priced at $200 or less.
@duodec
I would want a Sous Vide if i hadnt bought one a month ago (still on box).
Yes to generators, yes to night-vision. +1 to survival. (Esp the good stuff.)
@Thumperchick Amazon had an actual water bath unit over the holidays for $99, but I never saw the immersion units go on sale this year. We don't have room for a big countertop appliance but we have a stock pot and a midsize metal cooler that would work as the bath for an immersion circulator.
I'm keeping eyes on the Anova type just in case a good deal pops up.
@ruouttaurmind, propane is good too. One major benefit is the generator doesn't have to be run as often (for maintenance/readiness), oil changed as often, etc. Plus you can store it, it won't go bad, and you can get tri-fuel kits that let the generator run on house natural gas too. Good call.
The Bluetooth Anova has been on sale for as low as $129... Now it looks like only the Wi-Fi model is on the site. I have the Bluetooth Precision Cooker and really enjoy it.
I really debated also getting an Anova One when they were blowing them out for $99 around Black Friday, but didn't jump on it.
actually, i wouldn't mind one of these for $50:
@carl669 That MVMT is only about a hunnert bucks full retail, so $50 isn't inconceivable. Bet if you keep an eye on eBay you could turn one up at that price within a few weeks.
I like the black on black:

@ruouttaurmind they had their birthday sale last fall and the one i posted was only $95, but they were out of stock. for whatever reason, the blue on black with the tan band just seems unique to me. that black on black looks pretty awesome as well.
@carl669 Agreed... they're both awesome. :-)
@connorbush my brother and i are both watch aficionados. but, neither of us has the money to buy expensive ones. that's why we love watches like these. they look really nice and they're reasonably priced. kudos to your friend for making these!
that said, hook a fellow 'mehrican up with some discounts! (just kidding. well... maybe.)
@ruouttaurmind @carl669 Hmm... Hold that thought. I am going to attempt to summon the CEO and Owner of MVMT..... Maybe I can try and convince him to work with Meh. Let's say I am not entirely full of it--how would one go about getting a product on Meh?
@connorbush yes!! i would also happily be a wrist model for the watches. i do have experience. i was a tuxedo model back in high school for one day.
@carl669 check out their instagram! Some really cool pics of customers modeling the watches in all sorts of locations. Then you can get in some practice and R & D before your audition. :-)
@connorbush bah... work has instagram blocked.
@connorbush Get in touch with a buyer (probably through LinkedIn) or contact sourcing@mediocre.com (hopefully that's right).
@connorbush i'm still holding on to my thought. where's my $50 MVMT watch?? (just kidding)
@carl669 i reached out
I'm in desperate need of more rope lights!
@joe43wv
I wonder if rope lights arent the next Meh theme item, now that the DFW area is short of speaker docks and the kind of knives i don't impulse buy.
@joe43wv if only some place had boxes and boxes of the stuff...
@joe43wv - Be careful what you ask for! lol
@joe43wv @f00l
Happy now?
@joe43wv Ask and ye shall receive....
@FroodyFrog Yes! Extremely! I ordered three!
@FroodyFrog Speaker docks were my addiction, but now it's rope lights.
@joe43wv You know they increased the limit from 3 to whatever they have in the warehouse for this one, right?
The most random thing I remember meh selling was those Kate Spade handbags. I'm definitely not in the market for a designer bag, but totally unpredictable is way fun.
@KDemo
I want totally unpredictable, and a weird mix of the mundane, the useful/predictable, and the surprising horrible and surprising awesome.
Cheap headphones, dont most people have way too many already?....Cables, its been a while since people normally paid crazy prices....Mops? How about a mop robot thats as good as a housekeeper? If i buy a mop, i might have to use it. Not buying a mop....Tech from 3+ years ago that no one uses now...a funny writeup and single digit price can only work so many times......audio equipment thats not quite there? No, i want audio stuff thats more than i dreamed of.....repetitive stuff everyone already has? We already have it.
I dont wanna be bored. And i want every now and then something so insanely eyepopping that i must insta-buy something i probably cant use or afford.
And then i want a feeling that perhaps i dont wanna tell my friends, because this thing, this whatever-i-just-bought, is so cool that maybe my friends just dont measure up, dont deserve to know about it, let alone own one.
Then that feeling will abate and i will tell people who might be interested, or people who have mental disorders similar to mine.
And then at the end of the day, instead of buyer's remorse, i want that fantasy sense of increased +++ karma.
Fortunately i dont act out on this non-stop. I would like to be tempted tho.
(Ok i'm an idiot, and emotionally disturbed, at times spoilt w no perspective on anything serious, and utterly shallow. Obvious, no? Temporary, perhaps. It's January, the cold, miserable, letdown, ice-storm month during which we are supposed to become better people and i'm not yet in the mood. I have moral deficiencies galore, but i came to meh looking for a distracting temptation, not a cure.)
@f00l - So, totally unpredictable is way fun?
@f00l - Haha. You were so quiet for so long - It must have been killing you to keep this eloquent philosophizing pent up. Def not an idiot, apparently anything but shallow, and I can't judge the spoiled claim. Nice to know you!
But the mop was kinda out there, kinda cool, don't you think? Most everything that comes out of meh is from the tech or kitchen categories. I like the idea of "commercial grad" cleaning for 9 bucks.
Plus my whole apartment is tiled and I don't yet own a mop.
@nakilarx
If you own a mop, you might start thinking someone should use it. That's why mops are bad.
A robot mop has potential.
Pie. Mail me a pie
@riceatusc Mmmm... I like pi.

Love.
x-ray specs!
@annwat
You could get those through old comic book mail in offers.
A pack of random somethings. Some of my favorite Woots were when they had random comic books and random calendars.
The calendars were a great way to kick the year off.
Where's the Sansas?
@G1 - I'm wondering if Tweety and Sylvester are the meh version of Sansas.
A body pillow (like a really good one) or a bouncy castle.
@iiyra Bouncy Castle for adults...with cup holders for our adult drinks!
Toys I don't need... also micro SD cards (lame but so useful)
Anything cheap that it would never occur to me to want much less buy but I'd instantly buy three of them.
Really right now. A webcam, something decent. A mini fridge. Maybe a cheap monitor to do dual monitor. But it would have to be decent and cheap or 2k. USB to HDMI in that is decent. Can you tell I'm in the extra life mode? ;)
@sohmageek A countertop high mini fridge (eg the ones 3.2+ ish or so cubic feet ones) with a separate freezer would be perfect for me. I learned the hard way the cube sized ones (eg around 1.6 cubic feet) are too small (had that as my only fridge for 12 months and it was rough - had to go to the grocery store way too often and it wasn't all that close and freezer that was internal in the fridge didn't even come close to getting cold enough).
My ear phones recently pooped in my ears :( now I have to listen to people.. A new pair would be totally tubular! :)
Also recently broke a vga to HDMI adaptor.. A new one would be farout!
Better yet... A new 24" monitor to replace the adaptor.. But you know, just saiyan. Thanks!
@lilsrm123 For your adapter, Monoprice.com is where I got my VGA to HDMI adapter- they're very cheap there.
Hey meh, blow me! Or at least blow my mind! I'm too old for the other kind of blow. :(
Free delivery (or at least inexpensive delivery) to Canada. Doesn't have to be for anyone else but me.
