Meh made me $100 richer
30A friend of a friend of mine was having an estate sale, so I placed the 6’ tall wall plaques, that I received from Meh’s birthday Fuko, up for sale.
No price, best offer. Someone paid $100 for them. Are they crazy or do they know something that I don’t? Anyway, I’m just relieved that I didn’t have to PAY someone to take them off my hands.
Thank you, Meh.

(The person is definitely bragging about how they bought something valuable for $100)
On the bright side, you could get the Paperwhite now
@PlacidPenguin Nope, got other plans.
@PlacidPenguin Paperpurple.
@Barney
Totally irrelevant, but where do you stand on cases for electronics? (I.e Do you use them, and what kind do you like?)
@PlacidPenguin I guess it’s a good idea to use them to keep from breaking something, because electronics can be pretty expensive. I only have a laptop computer. I store it in one of the neoprene sleeves that Meh sold.
Sorry, I guess I wasn’t very helpful.
Oops, that’s not true. I have an old Kindle Keyboard reader and I keep it in one of the dollar leather cases that Woot sold during a Woot-off.
Those appear to be artifacts from the western region of Bubdal. They were used as a way to increase fertility for women having difficulty bearing children. Eventually they were also used as contraception. If they are faced front to front, it means the woman is likely to conceive. If they are placed back to back, it is extremely difficult to get pregnant. They date back about 430 years, and also, I’m making all of this up.
@lichme Whew, you had me worried!
Wow. I have no idea what they’re worth, but I’m shocked anyone would start at $100 on a “or best offer” for almost anything.
Maybe we’ll put a bunch more of these up on Meh. $50 sounds like a good deal, right?
@dave ROTFLMAO Oh and you HAVE a bunch more??? Why?
@dave
Do you want MORE people to get looks of disapproval from UPS and USPS?
@dave I wasn’t there for the sale, but there was a mini bidding war. One of the ladies gave up too soon IMHO. [I’m not greedy. ]
Holy Crap!!! Nice work!!!
Nice touch with the meh logo between them.

@f00l Arghhh! I’m using the money to help pay for Mom’s private transportation to her new nursing home.
Believe me this sale was perfect timing.
@Barney You’re such a good daughter. I hope she will be happy and comfortable in her new digs and that the transfer won’t be too confusing for her.
@PurplePawprints Thank you. I’m worried because she will be leaving her friends at the old home. But this place is a smaller facility, with a very loving staff (one of them is Mom’s former hospice nurse.) Her old home has cut back on staff so much that Mom just wasn’t getting the care she needs.
Moving day will be hard for both Mom and me. I really do like the staff (what’s left of it) at the old home and I’ve made friends there, too.
@Barney
You are the ideal adult child to have around.
@Barney It sounds like you’re making the right choice, though. Hopefully, she will make new friends there quickly.
Will you be able to bring her pup in to see her there, too? (If I’ve missed something re: the pup, please forgive me. I missed a lot of threads in recent months.) I know when I first moved my dad to a home up near me, bringing my dog in made a huge difference for him. Most facilities around here are pretty lenient about it.
@f00l Ahh, I’m afraid you don’t know me too well. I have my days…
@PurplePawprints Yes, Lady will be welcomed there! She was a top priority.
@Barney best wishes for a safe and easy move; hope your Mom settles in nicely and can be happy there.
@duodec Thanks. The move is Friday and I’m so ready for everything to be over and done with.
I’m a little sad but maybe a little relieved that you didn’t send them to me like you promised The money is going to a much better cause than me.
@looseneck I figgered you had enough on your hands with your move without having to babysit those two troublemakers. (I kept tripping over them.)
Congrats on making lemons into lemonade. Good luck with your mom at the new facility. I moved my parents (92 y/o dad with dementia, 85 y/o mom = primary caregiver) into a house we had built right next door about 5 years ago. So far he is still capable of living at home, but I can see that the day may come when further care than Mom can give will be required, and that will be a tough day indeed. Congrats also on finding a suitable, quality residence. That’s not easy to do…
@chienfou I’m very lucky to find this place. As I said I know the owner/operator, this is a smaller place where Mom will get better attention, and she’s also getting a private room.
Nursing homes are running about 95% full here. Those who do have openings are the ones you DON’T want your parent in.
Yep, things seem to be going right for a change.
@chienfou
Cool for building that house. I hope they manage to stay next door to you for years yet.
@chienfou I just wanted to add, (I had to leave earlier), that if/when the time comes for you to have to place your parent(s) into a nursing home, do not feel guilty. You’ve done your best; there sometimes comes that time that you have to have that extra help to take care of them.
I was my mother’s caregiver for 10 years (after her bypass surgery didn’t quite turn out the way it should have). During this time, she was capable of taking care of a lot of things for herself. But a year and a half ago she broke her hip and then a couple of months later she had a stroke. It now takes two aides to care for my mother.
Please, if you have to go the nursing home route, just remember all you have done to help your parents.
@Barney Thanks for the encouragement.
As an ER nurse, I am all to familiar with our societal predilections about life. I am totally a realist about the subject and realize that you are dying from the day you are born – some just accomplish the task quicker than others. I am also eternally grateful that Mom is still a capable caregiver, and that Dad is still a willing and manageable dementia patient. When the day comes where that is NOT the case, I will be quite comfortable making the decision to place him in a facility with better resources than I can muster at home.
This is partially why I recently went back to working evenings rather than days, as it gives me more time to be available for appointments etc. That, coupled with my wife’s ability (and more importantly, willingness) to be a help while I am at work (since she is a teacher) gives me a lot of peace of mind and comfort.
So far all is going well, but time will tell…
It’s nice to make money from Meh. I sold a hard wood floor robot sweeper for $120! Marked down from $150.
