meh and south korea

zippyus thought this was worth mentioning said Wed, Jul 15th 2020 at 4:40pm ET

in the early days of meh, there was a decent amount of site traffic from south korean deal sites, and a decent number of threads and comments in korean.

did we become insufficiently meh for south korea? or are the threads still here but i’m not seeing them?

As I recall someone made a copy of meh in Korea/Korean and that was around the time they disappeared. At least that was the theory. The link I can find in the forum no longer resolves.

my first time behind the scenes was when the entire internet archive operated off of a storagetek tape robot; think one of the coke vending machines where an arm grabs the soda and puts it in the slot, except there are rows of tapes in cartridges and the arm shoves a tape into a drive.

back then when you requested a page
it could be a while before your request
got to the top of the queue.

it’s a bit faster now.

- @RiotDemon The archive was on tape (with a modest disk cache of 10-20 drives in front of it) until 1998 or 1999. It moved to spinny disk soon after.

- @f00l while funny I think that’s staged. The play/stop/pause/forward/rewind symbols have been standard for decades and so have headphones. No kid especially an 11 year old is just going to cluelessly stab. They know what buttons are

- @f00l @RiotDemon I can believe not knowing what a tape is. Or a Walkman. Lol. The gif on its own doesn’t seem fair. The actual video she’s good. The button I didn’t consider was eject. Which is entirely possible kids don’t ever see.
