Meet フーコ (Fūko)
8フーコ is the latest addition to my amiibo crew (amiibo is like Skylanders, but for Wii U/DS/Switch).
I don’t really play any games that use amiibo, but when I saw her name, I had to have her. Because Fūko. Fūko is a character in the Nintendo game Animal Crossing. She appears as Celeste in the English versions of the game.

I’ve never fully understood how these things work…it’s like DLC for your game, but you have to buy a physical toy to unlock it?
@medz Essentially, yes. They work on NFC tech to unlock content that either already exists in the software, or can be DLC. For example, if I scan a Mario amiibo in Mario Kart 8 it may unlock a kind of car, a costume, or even a whole new character from a completely different game title.
@ruouttaurmind Got it. So it’s like paying for DLC and getting a bonus collectible figure. Can you resell the figure and have it unlock content for someone else? (do you both get to keep the content)
@medz kind of. Think of it more like it’s like paying for a figurine and it just happens to unlock some usually minor DLC. Yes you can share the figures.
@medz Except the DLC is “dynamic” inasmuch as whatever DLC is only active during the gameplay immediately after activating the figure (the toy).
@ruouttaurmind not in all cases. For example in Breath of the Wild the figures spawn items and such which persist.
@jbartus Currently I only have one amiibo (compliments of the @readnj family ) so I admittedly have limited experience. I gleefully bow to your expertise in this subject.
@ruouttaurmind you have one more than me.
I love Animal Crossing.
@sammydog01 it’s a great series. I finally managed to obtain a Gamecube (long search to find one meeting my discerning condition requirements) and am looking forward to getting to try the original.
@sammydog01 I’m curious to try it, but Ninty doesn’t offer a real iteration for Wii U. There is Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival (kind of a board game for 7 year olds slumber parties from the looks of it) and Animal Crossing: City Folk which is an emulated DS game.
Say what you might about Nintendo, but they have the market cornered on cuteness factor IP.
@ruouttaurmind I played City Folk on the Wii- it was pretty good, although I spent most of my time on the 2ds.
かわいい。ちょっと欲しいかも。
@Invisiblemoose とてもかわいい!
I chose Celeste/Fuko as my Nintendo Switch profile icon. I did it because of Animal Crossing, but now it’s doubly good!
