Mediocrebot Pranked Me
9Last night I was frantically smashing the buy button and then the “I’m not a robot” button trying to be a fool rushing in for the Fukobukuro. The order status bar would fill green, drop out, fill green again, and then say “sold out”. Then I’d wait for the countdown and do it all again the next time another one came up.
It started nearing 3 AM, and it was getting harder to keep alert for those count downs so I started setting a timer on my phone to alert me to about a minute before the next countdown was going to end.
But, each time, I’d leave the PS4 to come to the computer and load the site only to find that I had just missed the next new Fukobukuro, and, depressed, I’d set a new timer and go back to my Yakuza Kiwami 2.
This went on well into the early morning hours, when I finally realized that the timers I was setting were being changed, from 1 minute before the countdown was to end, to 1 minute after it ended.
I swiveled in my computer chair to face Mediocrebot, laughing at me from the corner. It was then that I also noticed my arms were nothing more than sizzling arm skeleton bones, reduced to the bone-white bones by some kind of citrus acid.
I learned my lesson and parked myself in front of the computer, watching the countdown with my very own eyes. This time, the prank would be mine. As the countdown reached zero, I refreshed. And mashed the buy button. And proved I was not a robot, followed by a successful order. Just goes to show that not being a robot, especially a Mediocrebot, is the best prank revenge, even with painful human skeleton arms.

Except that you fell for the overall prank by buying a Fuko.
At first I thought Meh was “pranking” us by offering an unprecedented amount of Fuko to try and snatch up.
Then, as the day wore on, and the more convinced I was that I had, in fact, become the robot that Captcha was accusing me of…I figured it out.I’ve been pranked.
All those Fukos dangling just barely within reach. All those offerings. All those strangers on the internet claiming to have gotten one. THIS. WAS. THE. PRANK. To have an otherwise normal, productive person spend an entire 24 hours increasingly becoming obsessed with try to pay $5 for random crap.
Well played, Meh, well played.
Now, some sneaky Mediocrebot Minions are hunting for good prank stories. Well, my eye is still twitching uncontrollably from the pure frustration of yesterday. To get my buying fix yesterday, I found a truly amazing (but entirely useless) prize on the original website for random crap…eBay…and I only paid $5 including shipping.
What’s even more perfect is that there are two. I know the Minions at Meh would love to get their hands on one of these to make their Mediocrebot overlord street legal. What do you say, Meh Minions? Want to trade?
@bramby2 I take it you did not get a fuko? And that meh bot plate is even advertising that it is 21 so now they will have a drunk Mediocrebot on their hands.
@Kidsandliz
Actually, I had to check… did I get one? Was yesterday just a bad dream?
I woke up right before Fuko #12 (4am EST). I managed to rebuff the robot accusations for a split second at 7am EST to get Fuko #15. I then went quietly insane for then next 16 hours and 20ish minutes. I passed out right before Fuko #54. I had no idea Fuko #55 would be a shirt I might have had a chance of actually getting.
I woke up this morning to see how it all ended…and scared the hell out of my sleeping husband and doggos when I let out a very audible rage-filled scream of frustration.
My eye, of course, still twitching.
Meh-be I should greatful I only managed to give away 5 of my dollars…but those hours of my life are gone forever.
I got played. Hats off to the pranksters of Meh…but jokes on them…Mediocrebot isn’t street legal!
@bramby2 see, I think the real prank is they managed to get rid of a whole bunch of unlucky T-shirts. Now every time you wear one, you’ll get a Fuko, right? Maybe you should be glad you didnt end up with one (even though they look super legit)
@foynd unlucky or not…I agree that they look super legit. They would have been the pickle on the turd sandwich that ended up being my day. To have finally crashed and missed the offering by minutes…rage scream ensued the following morning. Now I am offering Mediocrebot a trade…we shall see if the Meh Minions take me up on the offer!
I tried I failed yesterday, I kept getting sold out, or “don’t know what you are trying to buy” or some other bull crap error thing…
Several times under the green bar it said I couldn’t buy because I was a robot.
@SurgTechGirl I AM SORRY FELLOW HUMAN!
Even after I bought one, I was obsessed with seeing if I could get to the website with the buy button still there rather than showing it was sold out. Got so good at it I could have bought dozens if meh would have let me. All in all-good practice for next time.
I stayed up… so late… and checked all day… and clicked and clicked… whyyyyy no fuko for me? its like FUKU you say to me. <-poem
