Mediocre Time: Shorter days for more deals and equality
8I have a solution to the time zone problem that also allows Meh to sell more random junk to us: Mediocre Time.
Mediocre Time adapts to all time zones, sleep habits, and work schedules. It's equally bad for everyone, but every once in a while it's perfect for you.
Mediocre Time allows Meh to gain about 7.8 extra deals a year allowing users to acquire more stuff they don't really need, and Meh to make more money.
Mediocre Time saves 30 minutes every day making the website greener and the ozone hole smaller. Somehow... Maybe?
Anyway, the idea is simpler: a deal should be available for 23.5 hours instead of the traditional 24 hours. People living on the east coast could stop whining. Meh could sell more. I could buy more. It would still feel like a deal a day. It could also be better for the environment since Meh would burn less time.
What do you guys think?

Nice try but people on the least coast will never stop whining.
@AlohaSnackbar Word. They'd whine about having nothing to whine about.
@medz ... This nation is full of whinos..
@AlohaSnackbar I'm an east coaster and I don't whine. And I'm sure there's more of us out there who don't whine than those that do.
@annwat The whiners are just a very vocal minority.
@annwat See? Now you're whining about not being a whiner! :)
@medz To be Fair, @AlohaSnackbar was the original whiner in this thread. That must make where that individual is from the ultimate of whiners.
@annwat I'm an east coaster too, I check the new deal every day. Have an alarm set to 11:59 just in case I fall asleep.
Meh.
no. because i'm not taking the heat on this one. fuck you EST. and CST, MST and PST. i hate you all. GMT 4 life!
@carl669 No love for BST?
@carl669 Ah, but we're in EDT, CDT, MDT, and PDT. Nonetheless, NO!
Folks are going to whine no matter what because the world didn't revolve around them. FUCK THAT. If you want something from here that badly, make the effort.
@communist Bacon Smothered Tomatoes? there's always love for bacon smothered tomatoes. that's a given.
@narfcake I'm not in any *DT, because fuck Daylight Savings. AZ represent!
@carl669 UTC! UTC! UTC! UTC!!!
It would definitely solve the current problem of people knowing when stuff happens on the site
@matthew Setup and NTP server with Mediocre Time and people will synchronize their lives to you.
@matthew (but seriously, a countdown to the next deal would fix that)
@Finder so would a perpetual meh-off but that might also result in a Speaker Dock Weekend
I think this is about as much of a problem as whether this album cover is black or a slightly darker black.
For a real problem try solving the forums, they still look like ass.
let's talk about pagination
As an East Coaster, I must say that this idea seems like a perfect way to make everything far more confusing and frustrating for everyone.
A site update time that changes by a half hour each day? No, thanks.
The current schedule seems fine to me.
@Rowsdower I guess @AlohaSnackbar was right.
So the non-Eastcoasters are whining about the Eastcoasters whining?
I really like the Idea. It would be great to buy something from Meh on 32nd of August.
@wishod They will schedule a fuku then just for you. Be sure to let us know if you got it and what calendar warp you were in.
I'm going to just live my life on this schedule. I figure I'll get about 2 years of extra days in.
@snapster Wouldn't that means 2 extra years of taxes too?
No! You can't do this to me! I've been trying so hard to move back to MST from EST, and I'm finally doing so next month. :)
I live in Indiana. Time here is already fubar-ed.
lol The time the new item comes up would change every day. lol. I'd hate it.
@xEBRONx So you can deal with change, but not change of change?
I live near Buffalo NY and I set an alarm to look at 12 and still up everyday at 6am, get the kids ready dropped off to daycare in in the office by 7am. It's the entitlement. You want the deal WORK FOR IT. What excuse do you have? Keep it simple. Don't like it, Amazon has sales all the time.
@StrangerDanger That's the point. If you check every 24 hours, you will always see a new deal, but every once in a while there would be a deal that you missed because your sampling rate is low. Those deals, however, are the extra deals you would not be getting if the deal changed every 24 hours. If you want to have all the deals, you have to work for it by checking the right time and not the same time every day.
Cheer up sucker
@Finder There's a woot-off today. Visit there for lots of mediocre deals. (see what I did there?)
I blame @carl669 for starting this thread.
Being an East Coaster I used to stay up til 12 to see what's next, but that kinda got old. Then I would check at 6 when I got up, but even that faded. Now if I think of it I check with my morning coffee at the office. Honestly, with the warmer weather I'd rather get in the office earlier and get out earlier. That leaves more time for enjoying the (finally) warmer outdoors. I did buy something last week, so I have VMP for the month, but I am not going to lose sleep over saving a few bucks on something I wasn't really looking for.
As an East Coaster, I have no problem with the midnight launch time. If I'm too tired to stay awake, oh well, check it in the morning.
I say suck it up buttercup. There's bigger issues in life to whine about.
"7.8 extra deals". .8? ein minuten bitte. who the hell is going to buy eight tenths of a speaker dock?
I love the idea. It sounds like fun.
