[Market Research] What’s the Dustiest Thing You Own?
2Not oldest. Not weirdest. Not most regrettable.
Just the dustiest.
Look around. Spot that one object that hasn’t moved since 2018.
Describe it. Name it. Shame it.
Bonus points if you disturb its ecosystem and release the ancient air trapped beneath. Photos welcome.

I have an old PC just sitting in my closet. It’s pretty dusty.
Don’t know what to do with it.
@Targaryen
Best Buy e-recycle (after you clear the HDD of course…)
Hmmm - there are some things in the basement you don’t want see.
@Kyeh
Yeah, I got a whole basement of that lol
Oh, if only you’d asked this before I moved…
The wallet.

Lots of things here have dust and often a lot of it. With a motel style heater/AC dust gets everywhere pretty quickly (as does cat hair). Probably a couple of my ships in a bottle on a shelf with some small sea shells.
I can state definitively it isn’t cat toys, window sills, or other places cats sit. They are my dusters (although they can replace the dust with cat hair).
The top of my refrigerator.
Probably the books in the upstairs loft. Don’t go up there much and the cats have taken over that furniture (and it’s their favorite “cat battle” area). Had to go up there most recently when they knocked over a picture frame and broke the glass.

@chienfou What a cool loft, though! I love the ironwork - fleurs-de-lys, a whale, and a snail?
@Kyeh
It’s actually symmetrical. Fleur de Lis each side with two snails facing each other in the middle. A the child of some friends of ours when the kids were younger is a self-taught wrought iron fabricator. My wife designed the piece and he made it happen. It was a bit of a trick getting it up there since that’s all one piece.
@chienfou @Kyeh gah!!! Love this so bloody much! This is the kind of thing I’ll be doing when my shop is properly set up. Custom specialty moldings, lighting and furniture. This really is so lovely.
@chienfou @sillyheathen Oh, okay, I see it now. That IS wonderful!
@Kyeh @sillyheathen
Thanks. The entire house is full of custom touches since I did the vast majority of the construction and design work. For instance:
![enter image description here][1]
The faces of these drawers are from old wooden wine cases back when Sam’s used to give those away if you asked for them.
![enter image description here][2]
Or these drawers for our canned goods. The bottom of the drawer is split in half and raised about 3/4 of an inch causing the cans to roll forward as you pull one out. Makes the rotation of product much easier.

@chienfou @sillyheathen Oh, man … you did say you worked for a while in home construction and remodeling? I’m SEVERELY jealous, this is so cool.
@Kyeh @sillyheathen
My dad was always a handyman as I was growing up so I always had the attitude that “if somebody can do it why can’t I”?
I did half a dozen years of local construction working with another guy doing repairs and remodels on houses. This helped to sharpen my skills and when we remodeled our house I was able to put those skills to use. It was actually kind of fun having my wife verbalize things she wanted then trying to make them happen in 3D out of available materials.
@chienfou @Kyeh
If yall get bored, you are welcome to come and help me put these suckers on the walls of the shop/LMS! I think I lost about ten pounds in water weight between loading them into the truck and then unloading them onto the pallets outside the shop. Thankfully I only had to make 10 trips with the tractor to get them out of the trucks. But I am le tired.
@chienfou @sillyheathen So I guess the “not supposed to do anything vigorous” restriction has been lifted?
@chienfou @Kyeh I think I smell a rat!
Did I mention that I’m not very good at sitting still?
@chienfou @sillyheathen
Apparently not.
The attic it only gets cleaned when a kid/relative moves in or out! The youngest just turned 29 and is moving out for the second time. Just short stays between moves. Stores most of their krap up there, cheaper the a storage space & pest FREE! I avoid it! Store holiday stuff in basement or garage. That stuff is on a regular rotation !
My car. It’s so disgusting right now. It’s just been one thing after another getting in the way of cleaning it. Inside of the house is probably top of the cupboards, I never clean up there
@Star2236 I line the top of the cupboards, makes it easier than scrubbing grease. It was so gross up there when I bought the house.
@kittykat9180 @Star2236 The top of the cupboards in my mom’s old house were nearly dust free. Her oldest cat used to climb up there all the time and dust it.
@Star2236 @yakkoTDI I wasn’t that lucky. I had to soak mine with degreaser and scape all the grease and dust off with the edge of a credit card.
@Star2236 Actually I’d have to say my car dashboard. It is sticky from the heat. Permanently. And as a result the dust (and any cat hair although they don’t run loose in the car - they are always in cages but my clothes usually have cat hair on them) is glued on.
My brain.
@ItalianScallion Yeah, nobody believes that.
@Kyeh Some days I do.
My face
@sillyheathen Well, that’s probably because you’ve been gardening, or doing something with saw and sanders, etc.
@Kyeh are you spying on me?!?!?

@Kyeh @sillyheathen You might have misspelled “stalking”, unless you’ve been hiding state secrets.

@kuoh @sillyheathen
Only through Meh.
@kuoh @Kyeh man I was going to tell you to get out of the hedgerow and make you come rafting this morning.

@kuoh @Kyeh @sillyheathen Rafting? Where do you live? I’ll come!
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @Kyeh we’re going to have a lazy day on the clackamas. This is more of a leisurely float. Though we do typically go on the rogue or the deschutes once a summer too.
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @Kyeh

This is the Deschutes from last summer. The stretch of the clackamas that were floating is not that exiting. It’s just silly family fun. Just tubes and a few yaks.
@kuoh @Kyeh @sillyheathen Still fun to be on the river. I looked on the map. Even if I still lived in northern ID a 5+ hour drive to crash your raft trip is too far to drive. From here it would be a 4 or so day drive.
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @Kyeh we have friends that live in Sandpoint! One of our friend’s in that photo is actually from both of Spokane as well.
@kuoh @Kyeh @sillyheathen Well I guess with enough warning it would be worth the drive as long as it wasn’t just a “day trip”. When I lived up there I paid for my kid to go on all sorts of trips (sort of expensive which is why I only paid for her to go) and so I never even did any of the rivers then but then I used to work in outdoor adventure and did a number of rivers with rafts, canoes, and kayaks and she had never had that experience (adopted her at nearly 10).
@Kidsandliz @kuoh
@sillyheathen - Don’t worry, if I ever find myself up there I will definitely get out of the hedgerow - way too many fun and interesting things to see and do at your place!
I hope the river trip today was lovely. I did a raft trip ages ago in northern Colorado. I think we had 4 rafts and ours was the only one with a female guide - AND the only one not to capsize! She was Hawaiian and really knew her stuff.
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @Kyeh @sillyheathen We took the kids on a Deschutes raft trip a while back.
)
The flailing foot you see at the back of the raft in the first photo is my son’s as he was pitched overboard while going over a rapid. The next photo shows him surfacing downstream of the raft while we’re still looking for him behind us. (He was OK but maybe a little too much excitement.
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @macromeh @sillyheathen Oh no! Poor kid. Who was taking the pictures?
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @Kyeh @sillyheathen The people who ran the rafting trips also took photos from the riverbank at interesting spots. They were available for purchase back at the storefront. We got a couple to commemorate his “near death experience”.
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @macromeh @sillyheathen I can see why you did!
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @Kyeh @macromeh top tip! If you call the outfitters directly and let them know that you found a promotion. They typically will give you a better deal or throw in the photos.
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @Kyeh @macromeh
The water was a little slow but it was a really great day. Saw Osprey, red tail and sharp shin hawks and a pair of bald eagles fishing on the river.

This photo is cracking me up. I had on water shoes and apparently got the best tan line EVER!
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @macromeh @sillyheathen Oh, that looks idyllic! (Except for the tan, but that’s hilarious.
)
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @Kyeh @macromeh @sillyheathen Late afternoon middle of Summer mountain biking has left me with a similar tan at times.
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @Kyeh @sillyheathen Nice! Do they glow in the dark?
@Kidsandliz @kuoh @Kyeh @macromeh my toenails do now. My daughter just painted them.
my feet also look like they do because they’re now 50 shades lighter than my legs.
My home.
@fjp999 oh just that
toilet brush
@hongking probably give it a swirl every 3,000 miles or so
