Hope the Cape is in the mood for quite a musical show.
How near are you to the possibility?
(Such a pleasure watching those WWS clips, even if I now know that Beymer didn’t do his own singing. I prob would have posted those vids if you hadn’t.)
@f00l I’m about 200mi inland. Hatteras gets hit about every 2 or 3 years so most are ready for the worst.
We get hit about every 200 years the last was Hugo 30 years ago. Those storms follow the river and chain of lakes and swamps to Charlotte. Tropical storm winds and rain really screw this place up because of the tree cover and what happens to big ass trees in saturated clay, not to mention the flash flooding. If it looks bad we will decamp to MIL’s house in Ohio.
Whenever I hear the name Maria, my mind almost always starts singing that song.
Eliza triggers On the Street Where You Live from MyFair Lday which was my 6th grade Spring show. I mostly handled lighting backstage stuff, but was required to have a speaking part and ended up playing Zoltan Karpathy.
While there are others, I work with a woman named Roxan, which of course triggers Roxanne by The Police.
@baqui63 Mental soundtracks can be triggered by strange things. When I see references to ‘Sputnik’, my inner orchestra plays ‘Telstar’ by The Tornadoes. It’s instrumental.
@cranky1950 TWC and some networks are in San Juan now. Governor apparently just announced that some parts of the island will be powerless for 4-6 MONTHS.
Lin-Manuel Miranda - you know, the dude who wrote the songs in Moana, or “that Latino Hamilton guy”, whatever - made a playlist. Spotify is putting all the money they’d make from people playing the playlist towards Hurricane Maria relief.
It includes Lin himself, and musicians you’ve heard (Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony), and musicians you haven’t but I really adore (Dessa), and other awesome musicians. You should listen to it, and subscribe if you’ve got a Spotify account (which tells Spotify who’s listening.)
Had to beat f00I to this

@cranky1950 I don’t know how I’ve never heard this alternative name. I’ll need to be sure to use it with my cousins who graduated from there.

@RiotDemon
/giphy RIP Bermuda
Fourth time is the charm.
First two giphys were semi-NSFW boobies.
Third was a semi-NSFW throatslashing montage.

@hems79 This is NSFL, at least for me as a builder of those plastic robots too poor for the giant boxes.

and this
I only clicked on this thread because the icon next to the link had a cute face. I feel guilty now considering the serious nature of the thread.
My Maria…
Looks like she’s a dangerous storm.
I prefer my Maria’s with a side of WWE.

Cat 5 Yikes!
@TerriblyHuang
Marni Nixon.
She finally gets to have her face on-screen on that scene.
Hers was the dubbed singing voice for the female lead bin My Fair Lady, West Side Story, The King And I.
I love her. Am sad that we lost her recently.

Hurricanes - people can’t seem to get a break this season. Horrible and hard.
@Kidsandliz Yeah really, the Sharks are about to face Maria. Hope FEMA as assets in place down there.
Puerto Rico getting hit. No network away team bravely broadcasting from Miami though.
@cranky1950 TWC and some networks are in San Juan now. Governor apparently just announced that some parts of the island will be powerless for 4-6 MONTHS.
@OldCatLady It’s probably going to be pretty ugly down there.
@OldCatLady Holy Crap!! For the sake of those people I sure hope he is wrong.
@cranky1950 A friend/colleague of mine is a photographer for CNN in D.C. but he’s in Puerto Rico for this.
Cool looks like its gonna head for Bermuda thats what they get for Brexit.
So, Maria was pretty awful to Puerto Rico.
