"Man purse" for a 3 year old?
6This christmas I gave the 18 month old this:
which was the best $23 I spent EXCEPT her 3 year old brother had a jealousy meltdown (it lights up, talks, and has KEYS!!! - and yes I gave him a key ring with real keys on it, a car remote, etc. since he loves keys but that didn’t help - and a credit card, phone…).
So I have spent the last hour combing the internet for a boy equivalent (I’d give him a pink one on his birthday in March except my daughter would have a fit - cripes he likes it, to me no big deal it is pink, he doesn’t care).
Anyone have any suggestions or know where to find something like this that is not pink or purple. If I can’t find anything I just might get him the pink one anyway since he loves it and tough luck for my daughter’s preferences for him.

I vote pink.
@brhfl yeah so do I if I can’t find anything else. It is his mother that will be the problem. I will have to convince her that a purse, kept in the house that is pink and played with by a boy won’t embarrass her in public (I think that is part of the issue). Sigh.

@Pony I’ll have to see if he would be happy with a fancy backpack (he already has one with those cartoon character monster trucks on it) if I fill it with “purse” stuff. Thanks for finding those.
@Kidsandliz No problem. Sorry I couldn’t find anything purse shaped.
@Kidsandliz This one is a lunch tote with lights but no sound. https://smile.amazon.com/DISNEY-McQUEEN-Light-Up-Insulated-Lunch/dp/B075WGVPL4/ (yeah, still obsessing on this. Pisses me off that everything purse shaped is pink. Grrr.)
@Pony Thanks. Yeah I know (pink). I spent a bit over an hour looking before I started this thread in frustration. My hopes weren’t that high but I was hoping.
@Pony yeah, cause i’ve never liked pink and neither has my daughter (well except that fluorescent one that was popular back in the LA Gear days, she loved that)
@Cerridwyn Yes! I always hated pink as a little girl too. I freakin’ loved that neon pink in the 80s, though- my checkered Vanns with neon pink socks were my jam. haha!
I have a 50+ y/o male friend that carries a bag. He calls it his murse. And, I’m actually shocked, but you can find many “mens murse” items on Amazon with a simple search. Might be a bit too much for a 3 year old though.
Trivia: just found out that murse can also refer to a male nurse. Discovered that because the search results also included a lot of male nurse T-shirts.
@cengland0 I spent an hour searching kid purse, kid man purse, etc. saw some key chain holders that are a bit little for a purse and no lights, talking… but pretty sparse out there. Thanks for the suggestion.
Kid likes it. Give the kid it. Add some sort of key chain to make it clear his not his sister’s. Maybe his initial?
+1. @Kidsandliz they are your children and you know what is best but I agree w/ @captamerhrican that maybe you’re overthinking it a little. If the 1.5 year old doesn’t miss it, let your son keep it. If it helps any, the demo video shows both boys and girls using it.
Also, here is a link to the product line. Unfortunately, I didn’t see it was offered in other colors or a similar product offered.
@CaptAmehrican @elimanningface Actually these are my grandkids so if I give him something my daughter doesn’t want him to have she will just take it away… that is why I am trying to find an “acceptable to her” alternative so this kid can have his own purse with his own “stuff” in the purse. As he likes the talking and light up stuff was hoping to find something with that too… that part might not happen though.
@elimanningface thanks for the link to the product line and video.
What about a messenger bag with some light up/talking keychains attached?
@RiotDemon If it was small enough to be purse sized that might work. He was very definite that it had to be a purse and that a backpack was not a purse. LOL
@Kidsandliz I came across some.

I found even smaller ones. Could probably sew one out of a t-shirt. I might have a strap around here somewhere to use.
Turns out, you don’t even need a separate strap material.
@RiotDemon Thanks. My sewing machine is 180 miles away but I should be going there sometime within the next month.
/giphy fabulous!
I’d get him his own cool wallet.
Maybe a soft lunch box?
@daveinwarsh A wallet might work although he likes the purse - throws it over his shoulder, plays with the sounds… I’d need to modify a small back pack or lunch sack to look more like a purse. He is very definite that it needs to be a purse and not a backpack (I tried the backpack reminder that he had one that could hold all his stuff),etc. Thanks.
If you find a bag you like and are looking to fill it, these keys are great.

@frozenokie OMG he’d be in 7th heaven with those keys!!! Thank you for posting them. If nothing else its a birthday present in March.
@Kidsandliz no problem!
We bought those 4 or 5 years ago and my kids love them.
It looks like there’s a newer version that’s a bit cheaper.

Also, my mom got my son a fisher price toy laptop and the voice is the same as the voice for the purse.
You could do a tiny messenger bag, a toy laptop or tablet, keys, and a comb for a decked out man bag.
@frozenokie I’ll have to look into that. Thanks for the idea.
None of these have lights and sound, but they could still work. You’ll need to add your own keys and buttons.

@ribzer Thanks for all of those. Now if they’d just take all those cute lunch totes and make kid purses out of them!! Makes no sense they haven’t.

Tell the company they need to de-gender or add gender purses or you will file a sexual discrimination suit.

Just get it, my son wanted an Easy Bake oven, all he could think of was cake! He used it a few times. He turned out ok. He still likes cake.

I can understand your wife’s pov
Imagine walking around with the kids and having to “educate” the public constantly?
@naropa fuck the public. The people who would care don’t matter and the people who matter won’t care.
@jbartus I would agree with you but I can’t prevent my daughter from not allowing him to play with it. Since he wants a purse I am trying to find one that won’t be taken away from him.
@Kidsandliz I know, that was directed solely at the poster, not yourself. I’d had similar sentiments when reading your OP and such but felt as it wasn’t your views you were seeking to cover it didn’t bear pontificating. I rather felt from the fact that you’re even trying to come up with a purse-like solution that you were probably of similar mind. Then someone came along and piped up with the same sentiments and gave me a reason.
