@therealjrn But it’s 20% off at check out, so only $40. However the rank is insane on this one, so they are selling a ton of these on AZ - super popular. Maybe there will be one in the FUKO bag
@therealjrn $40 actually. There’s a 20% not shown until checkout. Still, even at $30… I’ve messed with one of these kits. I’d rather spend $20 on a generic Arduino kit or $30 on a Rasp Pi.
@ruouttaurmind Would you be able to do the same conductive sensing thing with an arduino or pi? (I kind of wanted to get one of these to make a DDR mat, but my wife correctly pointed out that I would probably not actually do it.)
@awk Yeah, I would rather barefoot and quiet than switches and clattering, breaking hardware. Not a fan of moving parts.
(I also hate the soft pads because they’re super unreliable - don’t know if the conductive sensor would be any better on that front.)
I wouldn’t have to be barefoot though, I could wear tinfoil shoes!
Would you be able to do the same conductive sensing thing with an arduino or pi?
Absolutely. There are literally tens of thousands of Instructable type projects online. The Ardu clone starter kits are readily available on eBay or Amz starting at $20 and up (depending on how many parts, cables, jumpers, LED’s, switches, etc come with it). For under $40 you can get a pretty deluxe Ardu clone project kit.
@ravenblack I see. You could get a capacitive touch board such as this: https://www.adafruit.com/product/2024
This changes multiple inputs to a single serial stream so you can support many inputs on one board.
Then hook it up to whatever board can output USB HID data (not sure off the top of my head… I guess anything that has on-chip USB) so it can emulate a keyboard… modify some sample code … build a board with pads on it … it’s doable!
@RiotDemon I think it’s for little kids to start learning about computers. you can also take a selfie of your cat every time it drinks water according to Amazon.
@brhfl I really miss the electrical science kit of my youth. I might not of been able to control computers with bananas, but at least I could put a few pieces of wire together and light up a bulb, or turn on a fan.
@RiotDemon Yeah, they were neat. Not sure if yours was the same way, but the ones I had used those springy things to hold the wires in place. I think the first thing I learned is that short circuits mean heat… fun stuff!
Seems to include very little materials for the price. Some Amazon reviews say novelty wore off fast. A couple warned about getting a virus from a software download – company responded that the product does not come with software and SHOULD NOT NEED ANY DOWNLOAD, so beware phishing materials that might get included with it, if you buy one!
This is so cool! Can someone loan me the money to buy this? Like right now? Cause I want to get started right now!
Oh. Sorry. I tought that said Makey Money.
So if I connect this to a cucumber and then the box and then to a computer I can operate the ESC key on the computer by touching the cucumber…
That makes perfect sense if I worked in the produce section at Whole Foods.

These items continue to fail miserably at being fukos.
Whatey? Whatey???
An hour of fucking invention kits? Fuuuuuuucccccckkkkk.
Turn everyday objects like bananas into touchpads? whaaaat?
@therealjrn got anything like a banana you’d like to turn into a “touchpad”?
@eeterrific bow chica wow wow
What is?
Prime Day Deal for $50.00. lol
@therealjrn
Drops to about $19 with promotions.

@mflassy It does, I just checked it.
@therealjrn
This was the 2nd deal for me today which would have been cheaper on Amazon.
(The first was the Poo Dough which would have been $2.93 with Prime Savings discounts.)
@ruouttaurmind yeah…what you said!
@ruouttaurmind Would you be able to do the same conductive sensing thing with an arduino or pi? (I kind of wanted to get one of these to make a DDR mat, but my wife correctly pointed out that I would probably not actually do it.)
@ravenblack You’d probably want regular switches for a DDR pad instead of touch sensors. Unless you only want it to work when you’re barefoot…
@awk Yeah, I would rather barefoot and quiet than switches and clattering, breaking hardware. Not a fan of moving parts.

Hmmm…
$39 from Meh, or $19 & 2 day shipping from Amazon?
@mflassy Yeah, thought it was only 20% off, but it must have some bonus discounts.
@mflassy wow.
@hpw3inc @therealjrn
I mean, I still wouldn’t spend $18.94 on it.
I don’t understand what this is or why it costs $34 instead of $1.20.
Okay. Looks like it sends keypresses over USB when you touch conductive objects attached to the leads. THAT’S ALL.
You could make one for probably $5 worth of somethingduino and alligator leads.
@awk Exactly. This. Get a Pi or Ardu clone.
Cheaper on Amazon prime day deal
@Jasonf1984 indeed
This deserves the Mr. Hankey POS award of the day…
@Zebra Here I thought it was the poo product that started the whole meh day…
It’s all so clear thanks to this one simple drawing:
@brhfl I think this photo will make it perfectly clear:
@brhfl and why do I want to control a button by pressing a banana?
@RiotDemon Ummm because you’re normal!?
J/K I think this pretty much only serves as a sort-of-kind-of educational doodad. Definitely weird otherwise.
@sammydog01 between the two cats and the dog… That’s just way too many selfies.
@RiotDemon Yeah, they were neat. Not sure if yours was the same way, but the ones I had used those springy things to hold the wires in place. I think the first thing I learned is that short circuits mean heat… fun stuff!
Da Fuq?

@wew Get a banana and hit your keyboard with it, same experience.
So if I connect this to a cucumber and then the box and then to a computer I can operate the ESC key on the computer by touching the cucumber…
That makes perfect sense if I worked in the produce section at Whole Foods.
How have I even lived this long without an electric banana?
This is definitely a weird sex thing right?
@Magicalyn Finally!! Someone gets it!
