Loving woot's kidfoot
10Quick question ex-or-split wooters! I never really thought much about the whole woot community thing in the past but lately while binging on irk videos I stumbled across kidfoot and... and my 6 month old son loves it!
I can find surprisingly little information on it however - I can't seem to hunt down who the voice talents are or current projects. Still at woot? Now at meh? Or working for yo-gabba-gabba? Did they ever make Wendel and kiki dolls? I find the whole thing - especially how each video, despite really great content, has less than 2k views - a huge curiosity. If anyone can sate it I'd be grateful!

I'm glad you like it. It was my project mostly, although I coerced almost all (maybe all?) the Woot writers into writing at least one episode each. One of my favorite scripts was by Sam Kemmis, who is still at Woot:
Wendel was voiced by me, and Kiki was voiced by former Woot designer/UX person Ariela Krevat. I wrote the songs, with the exception of "Havin' Pets", the lyrics of which were written by former Woot writer Sean Adams.
No Kidfoot dolls were ever made, at least in part because the series was, as you observe from the viewcounts, not even a little bit popular.
@matthew haha i feel like I'm talking to a celebrity. My wife keeps rewatching "dreams" and my son loves "my dad is big" of course (OK at 6 months it's more me), but for myself I've had "never poke a friend with a stick" stuck in my head as an earworm for about two days now and "Go Jump in a Lake" probably hit the biggest nerve. Lol they're really quite wonderful, witty, and smart. I'm sorry they didn't gain more traction. I hope you'll consider another joint venture with her for meh (and maybe get rid of the earthworms?)
@march5th00 I was told they'll stay until part 27. We have a ways to go.
That is completely unacceptable @juststephen !
@march5th00 thanks! I think NPAFWAS was the first KF song to get written. If I remember right, we used it to audition staffers for the role of Kiki. Later we used it in a demonstration of this bottom-of-the-line karaoke machine:
@matthew well I'm sold. Bring back the karaoke machine. "Real lights!". What's surprising is that video has 10k views and the actual song has less than a fifth of that. It makes me wonder if you're squandering your creative talent through poor advertising and social networking! That's why I'm heading over to change. org RIGHT NOW to petition for a return of Wendel and Kiki.
@matthew wow I went to play it and like 10 seconds in my 4 year old sat and watched it asking the names and to see more.
@matthew as someone who worked as merchandise director for a fairly decent sized company I have to say you should have at least made some t shirts. Kids shirts would have done well.
There was a plan for kids' shirts at one point. The in-house, on-demand printing capabilities there made it a natural thing to do. It just never happened.
SKEMMIS!!!!!! //shakes fist in air
Meh'ers if you haven't seen this you should.
Never Poke a Friend With a Stick: KidFoot #3:
Or this one :Blood Brothers: KidFoot #16:
"You're talking about a surgical procedure" lmao
@march5th00 @matthew woah! These are great. And super catchy. Am going to take these for a spin when nephews come to town.
@march5th00 @matthew Love the double-tracking on the choruses. Just like John Lennon used to do.
Kidfoot is the best.
Now you have me watching it...
6 is depressing but true.
@juststephen lol dont worry #7 "grubs" will cheer you right up
Where's @cowboydann? He was a huge fan of Kidfoot
@capguncowboy I'm right here :) Still am a huge fan. Always wanted to get a photo with Kiki and Wendel but the stars never lined up, probably never will.
@CowboyDann We're gonna have to launch a GoFundMe so you can get together with @matthew and get a cameo. It could happen
@jaremelz if your kid likes irk I bet he loves kiki!
@march5th00 We just got back from the beach. I'm really torn between showing him this anna attempting to get him to sleep at a reasonable hour! Because he'll immediately obsess.
@jaremelz hoping you decided on sleep just for your own well being. I'm an adult & I obsessed. lol
@march5th00 Well, I just shut down his battle cry of MORE! and sent him packing. Granted, it's 8 here so early. But need him fresh for his aunt tomorrow. I might anything a few more!
@jaremelz watch. I might watch a few more. Dear fingers and phone, I will poke you with a stick. Because we aren't friends.
All right, I have to admit never seeing Kidfoot before, but now I am hooked. It is a shame Kiki and Wendel dolls were never made. "Think of the pathogens" :)
My son is a huge fan of "banana panini"
never really got into the kidfoot videos, but the ones i miss, are of course, the old monte & mortimer in the break room series, and more so, Ben the over literal Dermestid Beetle... always loved the Ben Videos.
@earlyre Ben & Irk, the not-so-odd couple.
Let us say "Ben and Irk, the not-so-odd duo"
@earlyre Oh god, I still miss Ben the Over-Literal Dermestid Beetle so much. I think of him every time I hear Katy Perry's 'California Girls,' which happens way more often than it ought to.
@matthew pretty intentional about Ben and Irk's sexuality... interesting.
@marklog lol - in the thread for the over literal beetle. "Couple" means they're together. Irk and ben are clearly not together.
By the way, the Woot subscription emails have a new Monte and Mortimer exchange every day- it's worth signing up just for that.
I also miss Kidfoot! <3
Is Ariela Krevat responsible for Woot not fitting on a 1024x768 resolution monitor? That is actually a bigger travesty than a lack of pagination.
@phatmass Hit [Ctrl]+[-] and it will fit just fine.
@phatmass was it too epic for you?
@phatmass Ariela Krevat is responsible for all the webpages that don't fit on your 1024x768 monitor.
@ariela !! Please come back & do another joint project with @matthew & save us all from those terrible earthworms!
I also loved the kidfoot vids. I watched most of them until I stopped paying such close attention to woot.
Hey @matthew where did those puppets actually come from?
I always liked the My Dad Is Big episode which also features the plain black background
and where did they end up? Also while we're asking questions - @Bingo did'ya bring any eggs today to work for lunch, huh?
@march5th00 Ha. As a matter of fact, I did :)
@Bingo : the KidFoot kids were built by Pasha Romanowski of www.projectpuppet.com
@matthew The same person who built Irk? See! They are related!
Ha, no, Irk was made by Lori Lane of http://www.chatterboxpuppets.com/
@matthew I admit, I thought that was the same company as well. Who knew @matthew had so many puppet connections?
@Bingo Now what if @matthew is the puppet and the puppets were controlling him instead?
I didn't like Kidfoot much at first, but after a few episodes it grew on me and I like them all, now.
For my totally non-insider view of why it wasn't popular, I'd say it just came at the wrong time. Woot seemed to be trying all sorts of stuff at the time, most of which went against the one-deal-a-day concept, and most of it with about as much success as a pork BBQ cart inside a mosque. I think a lot of would-be viewers basically rolled their eyes and thought "Ugh, Woot's trying to do a kids' show now", never to return. Which is too bad because they missed out on great content by doing so.
I think if Kidfoot had been attempted a few years earlier it would have been fondly enjoyed as part of classic Woot culture. Alternatively, it might have done better if it were totally unconnected with Woot. As it is, it was a wonderful thing at very much a non-wonderful time.
@Starblind that's the best explanation I've heard yet. Thanks for your two-cents.
Another beautiful thing about Kidfoot is when you think you've seen all they have to offer you can go back and rewatch them with YouTube's closed captions on for whole new layers of nonsensical fun!
Whuh?
It sometimes translates "bigfoot" as "big butt".
And you know all these paperback Israeli baby daddy database companies that have been popping up lately.
Those are just a sample from a couple of videos, there's a lot more undiscovered surreal hilarity in there.
@Starblind not to like crap flood or anything but this is big butt israeli baby daddy database company! lmao
I have to check these out.
Woo! Kidfoot rocks!
