Looking for a special kind of lens
2Hi, I'm trying to find a special glass/lens/whatever that helps with a issue someone I know has: terrible glare from car headlights (considerably more than the usual person does), making it extremely difficult to drive at night.
Sunglasses aren't a bad idea, but they introduce a new problem: now everything is dark, and it's hard to see the road anymore.
The fishermen glasses sold recently aren't too bad, but they still make everything darker, a little too much so.
Ideally, there would be some glass/lens/gadget that filters out headlights mostly, without appreciably darkening the road.
There may not be anything like this out there, but maybe someone here knows of a product I should be looking at or someone I should be talking to.

I'm pretty sure my optometrist added something to my prescription that helped with headlight glare.
@MrGlass I would've expected you to know more about glasses.
@jqubed I don't get it...
@FroodyFrog
Not the type of lens I typically deal with and I doubt AR coating would really help much . . . Good luck! I'll be interested to know if you find a solution.
As an addendum, there isn't an objective (lens) that can be manufactured (theoretically) that can eliminate all types of aberration - if you find one that works well that that remedies the car headlight 'glare' (flare?) issue, you're going to give something up in exchange, whether it be light transmission or color 'rendition' (to be non-technical), etc.
This would seem also then to be a very subjective 'fix' on the part of the sufferer - what they might find an acceptable trade-off, another person may find too light limiting.
Hit amazon or google and search for
"night vision anti glare glasses"
On a road trip once I used my friends "night glare" glasses and they did seem to work for the short time I used them (no idea what brand they were)... they mostly all seem to be yellow tinted and polarized...
just IM'ed the friend they are Duco brand.
just get good polarized glasses, the dont have to be dark
Pilots glasses are dark for a reaason, but you can get tinted polarized glasses that are not dark and cut glare.
@cranky1950 Like what is used on a camera filter? I never thought of that.
@cranky1950 Can you point me to an example of both kinds of glasses there? Thanks!
Make sure your prescription is accurate. If my eyes change, it is night driving that clues me in to it. Astigmatism is the common culprit of night glare, along with getting old. I'm starting to make those "is it worth it to go to that place at night" choices myself.
Thanks folks for the ideas so far!
