And @Trillian came, and to every clue that creepeth upon the Mystery Theme quiz, gave the green herb of a good answer, and the meat of a sixth clue. And it was good:
“Delilah” by Tom Jones
Levi’s
Hagar the Horrible
Meshach Taylor
Better Than Ezra
and 6. Moses by Michelangelo (posted by @Trillian)
@jrwofuga Wait, #5 is from CHiPs Chips? Chips, with Ponch and Jon and Chris Pine’s dad that I didn’t even know was Chris Pine’s dad until a few months ago?
#1.I googled 70’s tv kids shows. . . theme songs. . some combinations of those with lyrics. Eventually one came up.
#3 There was absolutely no way of getting this by means of google that I knew of. It was the last one I got, and I didn’t think I would get it until I recognized David Cross. I knew he had been on sketch comedy in Mr. Show. . so then it turned into a search.
#4 That’s that Peter Capaldi (sic?) guy. who it turns out was in a punk band with Craig Ferguson at one point!! But google Capaldi and song lead to the name of the band and then the search was relatively easy.
#5 I googled lyrics, which was tough because I didn’t know what he was saying. finally I googled “concrete in my face” or something like that and a google book came up. It was indeed a battle of the bands episode. . . so. . .
@jrwofuga@lehigh Oh wow, I did not know that (he’s Chris Pine’s father), but as soon I read it, I thought, “of course he is!”
He has been in everything, including two of my favorite childhood shows - CHiPs, of course, but also my all time favorite - he was Magnum P.I.'s father!
I’ve seen his face on screen so much, throughout my life, that I’m pretty sure he occupies some archetype in the recesses of my mind.
Like, if I think kind, fatherly authority figure, he’s a big part of the composite image my brain would come up with.
He should’ve played Captain Pike alongside his son in the Star Trek reboot.
The guy who did play Capt. Pike, Bruce Greenwood, is another one of those actors with one of those faces - been in everything, instantly recognizable despite not knowing his name (I had to google it).
The “Chips” one was the only one I recognized. I have a vague recollection of an episode where there was a “battle of the bands” type thing between the punk “Pain” and a new wave competitor. (something like “Snow Pink”??)
I was thinking #2 was supposed to be a parody of a Krofft-like band (e.g. Buggaloos), but I guess the joke is on me that is an actual Krofft band.
@mike808 I thought of them, of course, but I’ve decided that, while they were created as a fake band, they have become quite real. Kinda like Pinocchio?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How wonderfully weird!
/giphy rock on
And timeless congratulations to @Trillian!
Not familiar with any of those.
I am disappointed in the omission of one of the greatest fake bands of all time (and a couple of dimensions):
this was a deep dig. . .

@jrwofuga That’s some impressive work. How did you find the Chips clip?
@jrwofuga @lehigh No way, now I know who Chris Pine’s dad is too! I’ve seen his dad a lot more on camera than Chris.
Congrats! I would go see that last group in concert.
@lehigh @sammydog01 @cinoclav
I didn’t know that was Chris Pine’s dad either.
2 was easy. The rest were difficult

@DrWorm I remember a CHiPs episode with music, roller skating, and guest stars but not this one.
How did sloshy not make the cut?!
@UncleVinny Strongbad so mean
Should have been a Top 10 list.

Wow, I loved Captain Kool as a kid. Was really hoping to see The Mosquitos from Gilligan’s Island, though.
@curtw4 That was a real group called the “Wellingtons” performing as the Mosquitoes tho.
@therealjrn they were real? As in, people paid money to see them? Wow.
@curtw4 Believe it or not, they toured with The Supremes and Stevie Wonder.
