I loved read it and relied heavily on Reddit Sirtis
But I gather the CEO was a total asshole only cares about the IPO
I figured the big protest wouldn’t work. There’s too much money and power at stake and the CEO is too stupid to realize why he’s risking

So is there a productive path forward that retains the usefulness and entertainment value of Reddit for us common folk?
Preferably a pack that doesn’t involve kissing the CEOs ass

I haven’t looked into Lemmy

The contention was their API pricing structure that would have cost some third party app developers millions of dollars a year, all the while their own app offered a poor experience, especially for the (unpaid) moderators.
@f00l@narfcake it’s a bit of a shit show. I suspect they will come to some sort of agreement because reddit is the community and you can’t monetize it without the content.
That being said. Beyond knowing what it is. And the occasional search results directed to. And it’s in the news. I probably wouldn’t notice if reddit died
@f00l@narfcake@unksol For me, I’ve removed the apps from my phone and deleted all of my history of posts and such. I know it’s a drop in the bucket, but less historic content devalues their service. As for continued use…I’ll only visit the site on my desktop with ad blockers installed so they get nothing out of ruining the experience. I won’t post anymore (not that I did a great deal of that) but it is a valuable resource for user-generated content and news aggregation. Fark.com was where I first found the benefits of user-driven news aggregation and reddit had given us a great place to broaden that concept. Fark still exists, but it’s undoubtedly no reddit. It’s really unfortunate to see a few of my most visited sites all shift in the last few years only to end up being the things I went to them to avoid.
Heat. Tell me about heat. My house AC blew out last Saturday, and the guys are here now to replace it. I was out of town when it failed, and my significant other took refuge with my daughter, whose house has just a scattered collection of window AC units. Better than nothing. I have been alternating between there and the hot house because there were still things that had to be done over here. I am hopeful to feel the cool breeze blowing from the vents late this afternoon.
@Kidsandliz They spent most of the week laying on the floor in the draft in front of the air filter towers. Once the temp started to come back down, they got much more active.
Notice that Meh will soon no longer allow new people to get tats and then get irks
There’s a new tat place nearby
I’ve been eyeballing it
Now or never huh?
@f00l That’s the word, even in-house. Last call for ink at the bar.
@f00l Yup!
@f00l Do it! (or not, no pressure)
I’m pretty happy to have finally joined the ink club.
It’s been over 24 hours since I bought a catshirt.
It’s been less than 24 hours since I’ve contemplated clearing my reddit history.
Nuke it?
/8ball
Better not tell you now
@narfcake Nuked last week. Gone tomorrow.
@ExtraMedium @narfcake
Hey, what are the cool kids doing about Reddit?

The CEO belittling them wasn’t good either.
Don’t worry, I bought some on Wednesday.
@narfcake
I hate that CEO. I read that “landed gentry” BS of his.
And I’ve long used Apollo and Reddit Is Fun.
So … crap capitalism has the power to destroy Reddit’s soul.
But I still need Reddit
Is there an honorable path out of this still having access to the richness of Reddit style community?
???
or do I just have to accept that I am using Reddit and that it doesn’t have a soul anymore?
And that by using Reddit going forward, I’m rewarding that dickhead CEO
@f00l
I … don’t know. I’m not some superuser – I lurk way way way way way more than I post – but it’s the current attitude that has me peeved.

Welcome back pardner…
1 sowwy i gone for so long
In my defense, I spent so much time working in the heat, dealing with friends and family members moving
That I sort of sweated myself to death during the day, and then went back to my place and collapsed in the air conditioning
Dealing with humans was more than I had energy for
/giphy sweat
@f00l Are you calling us Mehtizens humans? Don’t let the captcha bot hear you saying that!
As a fellow robot, I understand your pain.
@xobzoo
I guess I’m just a sweaty and inferior ‘bot.
/giphy “sweaty robot”
@f00l, in recent news, did you know that it’s now known to be absolutely, incontrovertibly critical to refrigerate your batteries?
True story. I learned it at Meh…!
@shahnm [razzberries] (you knew I would )
@werehatrack I would have been disappointed if you hadn’t. We’re definitely all creatures of habit here…
@shahnm @werehatrack
My batteries are safely fridged at the moment. Trying to figure out how to fridge my new tattoos.
/giphy fridge
@f00l @werehatrack Just chill. It’ll be cool…
Oh, I almost forgot: OH MY GOD I THINK THEY REALLY DID KILL GLEN THIS TIME BECAUSE WHERE THE FUCK HAS HE BEEN?!?
@shahnm
/giphy “they killed Kenny”

@werehatrack Your cats must have been happy though since cats like about 101 degree heat.

Inside was fine w AC
Outdoors it felt like breathing 90% steam at 105F +
No my idea of fun.
