@fuzzmanmatt@Kidsandliz They don’t have to retract - they simply don’t touch the ground till the ladder is more horizontal than vertical. (Wish mine had 'em.)
@fuzzmanmatt@rpstrong item description on Amazon says 35lbs. I’ll be honest, I’ve lifted this useful bastard and feels heavier…likely due to improper balancing while lifting. I was going to guess 50lbs before looking it up.
@Coldwyn Calling it refurbished also allows a manufacturer to clear inventory without ‘officially’ discounting the item, avoiding direct competition with their resale partners.
I Wooted a similar LG ladder 7 or 8 years ago. The factory sealed carton had a “Refurbished” sticker on it, but the ladder itself had no such markings - this leads me to believe it was ordinary, never opened stock.
@rpstrong I purchased a LGfrom woot as well but it was sold as NEW. Must have been used by someone at some point since it was covered with paint spatters. Even with the wheels, it’s a PITA heavy sucker to move.
@narfcake I probably did contact C/S. It’s been a few years since that purchase. Woot C/S has always been fairly decent about throwing me a bone if there’s been a problem–except for the men’s trousers I purchased 2 or 3 years ago. Sizes were REALLY off and I was basically told to pack sand.
@narfcake Yes I had one of these too and they are good. You an also buy a different kind of platform thing that you can stand on that attaches to the rung and doesn’t sit up high like this does.They are heavy though. I have seen them on sale new for less than what meh is charging. I’d guess a good chunk of the prices is subsidizing the shipping.
@narfcake They are great. I’ve had my dad’s 19’ version on long term loan for a while now, soon he can have it back (and this one will fit in my car better). Hopefully I won’t often miss the extra two steps.
@lichme I’m a dope who is running on very little sleep and living with a friggin’ circus of misadventure here at home. Would love to gift this to my eldest who just bought her first home, but I have to figure out how to change the shipping info.
@Kidsandliz I did think about doing that, BUT I still have an order from the other day “processing” so I didn’t want to take the chance that order would get sent anywhere but to me. Youngest daughter REALLY wants those Adventure Time pint glasses (the Ice King set specifically–rolling the odds to see what actually gets shipped) and if they get shipped to eldest daughter, they’ll be lost forevah!
@LaVikinga contact support and see that they say about switching it. Or maybe get someone else here to buy it for you and switch the shipping address to your daughter. I did that for someone when she wanted more of those security camera thingies. I bought, shipped to her, she paid me back.
@mehgrl Don’t worry… if you actually bought this ladder, you’d find these fears would soon crumple and collapse. Your concerns would spontaneously disassemble and go flying in random directions. Any hesitation you felt would burst like a ripe watermelon hitting concrete.
@ruouttaurmind unless you have a Casemates Kickstarter legacy VMP coupon code. Codes don’t work on Morningstar with the 10% VMP discount. ($139-$10=$129 here)
@ruouttaurmind If there’s a heaven, it’s got an elevator. (And it’s not a glass-walled one.)
Actually, if there’s a heaven, I don’t even want it. Walking around on freaking CLOUDS with a harp and wings that aren’t remotely up to regulation? I’ll take the escalator to hell, thanks.
@TheFLP I would guess walking around on clouds all day might be like jogging at the beach. Great idea at first, but damn, after that first mile or two trudging through sand is exhausting.
@DDLOCKARD This ladder appears to be based on the Alta-One design (note the old loop style adjustment pins). The Alta-One has a Type 1 (250 lbs.) rating, not Type 1A (300 lbs.)
The Alta-One line was also discontinued on 1/1/18, meaning that ‘refurbed’ means ‘dumping the old stock’.
@inanna Yes! The basic ladder can be reformed into the scaffold holder as shown. The ‘ladder’ on the right is the two telescoping leg sections removed from the ladder on the left.
I’ve been putting off trimming a tree that’s scraping my house for like 3 months for want of a ladder, so fine, you win this time meh.
/giphy aboard-spectacular-salt
@neveraging Come on baby, don’t be like that… Maybe it has still has a bit of winter weight (belly flab), that’s why you got to measure from the underside, and not the top. Plus it is kinda cold in here… Also, it is just getting over the flu, and it didn’t sleep well last night… I mean, it didn’t even know it was going to be measured today… Plus, who just pops it up and starts measuring… you gotta take it slow, let it build up a bit, get the blood pressure up a bit… those extra 2’ are there, you are just not really giving it a chance.
@Kidsandliz For me the “money shot” was the leg extension leveler thingy - I have light-bulbs in the top of a 25 foot stairwell I need to service. It was literally why I bought the ladder.
Without the accessories you can pick a similar one up for $111.20 before tax ($139 + 20% coupon) at Harbor Freight. They also have a coupon for the latter for $119. If you find a 25% off coupon it’ll be $104.25. I have the biggest one of these (Wagner brand), and keep thinking about getting a smaller one that’s easier to move around the house. It’s very handy.
@markgm That means one will have to (1) go outside, (2) use fuel to get to the said store, (3) interact with other people, (4) transport the said ladder in your vehicle, (5) use fuel to get back home, and (6) you won’t get the slightly helpful wheels or the very helpful air deck
Also, sales tax has to be paid on the spot as opposed to “reporting” it at tax time.
Ignoring the harbor-freight-has-cheaper crap, once can order a Werner version of this same thing brand new for about $125 from Lowes, and Werner is a damned good brand of ladder. Offer me one of these refurbished ladders for $60, and we’ll start talking.
I got one of these, and am happy with the purchase. I used it in long mode to trim a tree. It’s light enough to set up even in long awkward mode with only one person. The rungs are a bit thin (as I saw in reviews) so it’s not super comfortable to stand on for a long time, but being lightweight is good, and all the folding/unfolding mechanisms are great, easy to operate, feel sturdy.
@ravenblack you can buy a platform thing to attach to the rungs intended to be stood on. I have had this ladder for maybe 10 years and bought a platform and it makes a big difference (of course you then need to be more careful when going back down the ladder).
@Kidsandliz Thanks, that’s interesting. I’m not a professional ladder-stander or anything so it almost certainly wouldn’t be worth it for me, I’m only going to be using it like a couple of times a year so the “stowing away very small and not costing very much” feature is more valuable than comfort.
I have a commercial version of a similar ladder, the JAWS JLT26. It’s a 26 foot ladder rated for 375lbs. The problem is the weight of the damn ladder is over 52lbs. It’s unwieldy and difficult to move. Nearly impossible for me to manage in it’s fully extended “long mode” without help. Definitely impossible to load onto the rack of my SUV without help. It’s very versatile, super strong and very sturdy, but I definitely considered replacing it with the one on meh because of the weight.

Yeah, that’s what you want on a ladder… Wheels.
@fuzzmanmatt An influx of new falling off ladder videos about to be seen on America’s Funniest Home Videos
@fuzzmanmatt If you’ve hefted a “Little” Giant, you’d agree on the desirability of the wheels.
@fuzzmanmatt @rpstrong Yes they are heavy. And when you stand on them somehow the wheels retract or something (at least they don’t roll).
@fuzzmanmatt @Kidsandliz They don’t have to retract - they simply don’t touch the ground till the ladder is more horizontal than vertical. (Wish mine had 'em.)
@rpstrong How much does this thing weigh? I have one from Menards and it’s only like, 30 pounds. Not much at all for something this bendy.
@fuzzmanmatt @rpstrong item description on Amazon says 35lbs. I’ll be honest, I’ve lifted this useful bastard and feels heavier…likely due to improper balancing while lifting. I was going to guess 50lbs before looking it up.
@fuzzmanmatt 30 is around the right weight for this length.
@goldnectar It’s definitely the balance.
My M26 is 54#. It’s not easy managing it in extension mode because of how heavy the lower end (which is now an upper end) is.
@fuzzmanmatt the wheels are on the top end of the ladder, and don’t touch the ground when in use.
Ill show you a little giant!
@darkzrobe There’s a pill for that.
AirDeck & Wheels but no bluetooth?
I can understand refurbished appliances and electronics but… a ladder?
@Coldwyn Store (Costco) demos, most likely. If it’s out of the package, it can’t be sold as new even if it’s never been used.
[BTW, I highly recommend their ladders.]
@rpstrong I purchased a LGfrom woot as well but it was sold as NEW. Must have been used by someone at some point since it was covered with paint spatters. Even with the wheels, it’s a PITA heavy sucker to move.
@LaVikinga Did you write back to CS about that? At the least, they can credit you for its condition.
Woot’s buyers don’t always get to see the physical items before it’s sold – much more nowadays when it’s mostly fulfilled by Amazon.
What is this, Overpriced Bullshit Week?
@Dizavid YES, we all must go through this week. Keep your head above the ladder. We can do this.
now if the scaffold came with it you woulda had me
Good ladders. I have every size up to the M26 already, though, so pass.
Only an (oxy) moron would buy this
@lichme What exactly is wrong with the deal?
@lichme ummm… (Little) Giant… get it?
@LaVikinga Nothing, they are actually great products… I was just poking fun at the name being an oxymoron.
@lichme I’m a dope who is running on very little sleep and living with a friggin’ circus of misadventure here at home. Would love to gift this to my eldest who just bought her first home, but I have to figure out how to change the shipping info.
@LaVikinga go to your account and it has a way to have shipping different from billing address (just then don’t forget to change it back).

Something about refurbished ladder makes me feel unsteady.
@mehgrl Don’t worry… if you actually bought this ladder, you’d find these fears would soon crumple and collapse. Your concerns would spontaneously disassemble and go flying in random directions. Any hesitation you felt would burst like a ripe watermelon hitting concrete.
How good is this for suplexing people off of? You know, throw tables and shit
Was looking at these 4 months ago, was $170 at Costco. So not a bad deal but not amazing. Meh.
@rux $170 for new vs. $140 + shipping for refurbished. I’d go new every time
Meh is climbing the corporate ladder, literally.
I mean, sure it looks nice, but I definitely do not have that much in my ladder budget.
@ELUNO Wow. I don’t even have a ladder budget. I am so grossly unprepared for life…
Naw. I’ll wait until they put the big giant on sale.
@eeterrific
/giphy that’s what she said
See ya ladder meh
@AttyVette I’ll see yer ladder and raise ya
VMP Pro Tip: Order it on Morningsave, pay $135 ($149 with 10% VMP discount).
@ruouttaurmind A rare case where Meh doesn’t beat MS + VMP. I had been eyeing this there for the past few days.
@ruouttaurmind unless you have a Casemates Kickstarter legacy VMP coupon code. Codes don’t work on Morningstar with the 10% VMP discount. ($139-$10=$129 here)
Haha, just noticed… having a family of vegetarians, I have Morningstar on the brain.
Can we go back to selling things at ground level tomorrow? 1:24 scale cars are nice and low.
LADDERS ARE TOOLS OF THE DEVIL. Every step up means a longer fall into Hell.
@TheFLP Maybe you can use it to lower yourself into a hole…?
@TheFLP Or one step closer to heaven?
/giphy stairway to heaven
@TheFLP Turn the ladder upside down.
/giphy lifehack
@shahnm Nope, no good. It’s the down part of standing on a ladder that terrifies me. A hole is no different — you’re just eliminating the up part.
@ruouttaurmind If there’s a heaven, it’s got an elevator. (And it’s not a glass-walled one.)
/giphy jogging on the beach
@ruouttaurmind Yep, and I’d always be worried about the clouds’ structural integrity.
And let me add that this is a step in the wrong damn direction:
Shipping on this is going to cost way more than $5…
@wmbarr it’s in the price.
You rung?
This just reminded me to take down my outdoor Christmas lights.
How high do you want to go, again?
This is somehow different from the Titan that was retired in 2005? NASA’s price seemed way higher than this…
@txag96 Nope, this is the exact same Titan. Bargains come to those who wait.
@ruouttaurmind @txag96 Was NASA’s price for new or refurbished? This one’s refurbished. More like SpaceX’s Falcon 9.
/giphy falcon 9
@ruouttaurmind @sligett Right. I should totally go for the refurb as I believe the new model had a shorter shelf life. Thanks for the clarification.
@sligett @txag96 The NASA Titan was “seller refurbished” rather than the better, more reliable “factory refurbished” status of this model.
I bought one at a Black Friday sale. Yeah, I actually left my house. It was worth it to get such a versatile latter.
Maybe I will venture out again, if I can rise to the occasion. What heights can I reach?
@hchavers Sooner or latter ?
I pulled the trigger. Meh responded with “triangular-hostile-base”. I guess because it’s refurbished. I hope its base isn’t too hostile.
Was very interested and ready to bite… until I realized that photo wasn’t a photo of what $139 gets you.
Everywhere I look it shows the weight on this ladder is
rated at 300lb Meh. is showing it 250lb what is it?
@DDLOCKARD the refurbishment process shaved off 50 pounds of capacity…
Or, if you like, 50 pounds of it’s useful life has been used in the Costco demo processs.
It’s still Tuesday in Seattle… So do we get 2 (like the pic) - for-$139? Suck it Eastern time zone!
@inanna yes, you are lucky enough in your time zone to be able to buy two for $139… each.
@inanna Yes! The basic ladder can be reformed into the scaffold holder as shown. The ‘ladder’ on the right is the two telescoping leg sections removed from the ladder on the left.
I thought you were going to have this song on the front page.
Fitz & the Tantrums - Steady As She Goes (Raconteurs Cover)
I’ve been putting off trimming a tree that’s scraping my house for like 3 months for want of a ladder, so fine, you win this time meh.
/giphy aboard-spectacular-salt
It’s a seventeen foot ladder that only extends to fifteen feet?
What gives?
@neveraging that might be the game the ladder industry in general plays with “usable” (climbable/standable) ladder length.
@neveraging You don’t have rungs flush with the top of the ladder.
@neveraging It’s like a 32" monitor with 29" viewable area.
@neveraging The two sections overlap by 2’ when fully extended I bet.
@neveraging @topochicho 2’ is feet, not inches. Really Cold…lol
No optional battery holder?
@fastharry duct tape.
@fastharry Just hoist your mini fridge (maybe meh will sell one for you) up onto that platform thing. Problem solved. You are welcome.
Count me among those that bought the M22 on W00t! in 2010 (for $175 - but it had awesome accessories). These are great ladders.
Meh - y u no bundle awesome accessories???
@Pufferfishy Came to say this. Great ladders. If I didn’t already have one, I’d be in for one for sure.
@Pufferfishy This accessory is one I had and it is nice to have

{VMod edit: truncated the non-important parts of the URL that was messing with the automatic hotlink}
@Kidsandliz For me the “money shot” was the leg extension leveler thingy - I have light-bulbs in the top of a 25 foot stairwell I need to service. It was literally why I bought the ladder.
Based on the bargain price of $285 delivered I am guessing this is no longer available:
https://www.amazon.com/Little-Giant-Ladder-Systems-12106/dp/B002BB16XG/
Can you unfold this ladder so that it is one long extension ladder?
@xprogrammer According to the amazon page about the same ladder, yes, but it’s 15 feet total not 17 feet.
Newer version available for $179.99 on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Little-Giant-Multi-Use-Ladder-15417-001/dp/B00E1AQED2
AND it’s 5lbs lighter. Is Meh.com not doing their homework?
<<Man, I wish I had this instead of the Heavy Ass Ladder I have. Any ideas on how much the scaffold is? Guess I could Google, huh…lol
@narfcake Indubitably. Also, the last HF coupon book has it for $109.
@markgm @narfcake …and then you’d have a piece of crap HF “tool”. No thanks.
HF might be OK for very specialized tools you’ll only use once, but not for something safety-critical that must also be durable for years of use.
Ignoring the harbor-freight-has-cheaper crap, once can order a Werner version of this same thing brand new for about $125 from Lowes, and Werner is a damned good brand of ladder. Offer me one of these refurbished ladders for $60, and we’ll start talking.
@chronocaptain Werner is a well known brand, but it was Wing Enterprises (Little Giant) that designed this type of ladder in the first place.
The patents have since expired, hence why other companies can offer ladders of similar design nowadays.
@chronocaptain @narfcake Intersting. Eons ago I thought they were both made by the same company.
@chronocaptain @narfcake I own Werner and Little Giant. I will take the LG anytime. Not to mention the Werner is sooooo fucking heavy.
@ravenblack
@ruouttaurmind 52# is lighter than the LIttle Giant M26 I use. And that’s still easier to handle versus the 28’ extension.
If only scissor lifts weren’t so damn expensive and hard to store! … /s
