@moonhat Boating in the dark is lovely with the moon, sky full of stars, and even in storms it can be exhilarating provided your safety is not at risk. It usually isn’t pitch black.
I have a few epics to tell including once when we were nearly ship wrecked on Egg Rock just outside of Salam Mass harbor due to torn sails, no diesel fuel (EPA shut the fueling station down) and were being blown into it… That would have been seriously embarrassing not to mention the owner would have killed us. I was on a tall ship headed to Gloucester, MA at night in a storm, waves pulled the boom down and tore the sails on the mainsail - was on a broad reach so they were hanging over the water, I spent the rest of the night straddling the boom sewing about 10’ of torn sail so we could use it in the morning one we got there - charters so we had to get there and sail.
@CaptAmehrican can tell you more as she does it far more frequently than I do now.
@CaptAmehrican@Kidsandliz wowwww. that does not sound good. I don’t like even boating in the dark around the san juan islands here, my night sight gets worse as I get older and who knows what we can’t see. Glad you made it thru that experience though, sounds harrowing!
We used to participate in two boat parades when we had actual boats…one in Fort Pierce with our 35’ Viking sportfish, and a smaller one on Lake Conway by the house with our Correct Craft ski boat. Alas, no boats anymore, so now we just watch the one on the lake.
“Does anyone else do something silly for the holidays?”
I put a fake tree in the house and spend money and considerable time wrapping things in paper and ribbons and decorating in a beautiful fashion. Efforts which are rarely noticed in the hurry to tear it all off to get to the things.
@moondrake to me, those gifts are for adults that would actually take the time to notice. Close friends or family. Kids got wrapping paper that was quickly done.
@moondrake@RiotDemon Mom recycled wrapping paper and so would make us carefully unwrap presents. When we were grown my sister bought all the paper and told us to tear it off, ball it up and throw it behind the couch when we unwrapped. Mom was stopped from gathering it all up and smoothing it out to salvage it.
Ft Lauderdale does the light up boat parade. Saw that a long time ago. Was cool.
The light up boats at Disney world are legit. Eat at the Polynesian to see the show. Ask for window seat at Ohana.

I think the light parades, land or water, can be awesome.
I WANT TO BE THERE!!! What are you on? Tall ship or one of those pitiful modern things (snicker )?
Seriously though I miss living near the water to play on boats. Big envy!! Hope you had a blast and actually sail rather than motor.
@Kidsandliz yes, tell us more! I’m glad my hubby never wants to participate in those. Boating in the dark sounds too scary.
