Life as December Goat: Day 13
9My 12 year old came in from playing outside last week and recounted the tale of sticking her tongue to our laundry line pole and getting it stuck. Her tongue was a little bloody where she had just ripped it off because she realized that I wasn’t going to notice her stuck out there. She found it terribly hilarious and has told many, many people about her adventure. She said that she had to do it just to know if getting stuck to a metal pole was really true. I remembered seeing it on A Christmas Story and never feeling the need to try that in real life. I did get my tongue stuck to a freezer burnt fudge pop once when a kid.
Have you ever tried it?

Nope.
What do you think? Of course. A number of times. I also played with electrical sockets
@mfladd ah. So that explains a lot.
@mfladd I never did the flagpole thing, but an aluminum ice cube tray was my life lesson. Can’t remember if detached before or after I thought to put it under a faucet to thaw it. Electrical sockets/ open electrical connections were the bane (and almost end) of my existence. Luckily I never got past medium-rare.
@mehcuda67 @mfladd @RiotDemon I played with matches and to this day, I’m scared to death of them. Fortunately, Grandma didn’t catch me or I would not be alive to write this.
Never got my tongue stuck on anything. I’m sure I did it at least once. I remember breaking icicles off and licking those. Wouldn’t you be able to warm up the sides of your tongue with your hand to slowly pull it free? Or if you wait, wouldn’t the blood flow in your tongue eventually warm it up?
It doesn’t get cold enough here to test my theory.
@RiotDemon Pouring warm water over will release but I did see a comment on the above video that you can warm it up and release as well. (I typed out a different description of what they said twice but it sounded horrible.)
@tnhillbillygal I wonder more about if you’re stuck by yourself. No warm water around.
More research is needed.

3 Ways to Remove a Stuck Tongue from a Frozen Surface - wikiHow
https://www.wikihow.com/Remove-a-Stuck-Tongue-from-a-Frozen-Surface
Edit: I like how the second section is essentially the same as the first, except they don’t tell the second person to pee on it. Lol
@RiotDemon @tnhillbillygal Of course that assumes the stuckee has access to Google. And can type the query, because voice commands could be challenging. “Ohay Hoohle…”
And one would hope that if they are wise enough to look it up on Google before sticking their tongue on a pole, then they’d be wise enough to not do it. Or am I missing something?
@RiotDemon @tnhillbillygal That wikiHow is a pretty hard read, BTW.
@RiotDemon
Your friend on the right is clearly winning.
This girl I went to school with got her mouth stuck over a doorknob on a dare.
@therealjrn why?
@RiotDemon Why? That’s what I was thinking. Kinda weird all the way around–I wasn’t the person who made the dare.
@RiotDemon @therealjrn That one is pretty hard to live down. On the other hand, you still remember her years later…
@mehcuda67 @therealjrn I just wonder if a guy dared her to prove her skills.
Not really a good example…
@RiotDemon @therealjrn I SO wasn’t going to go there.
@mehcuda67 @RiotDemon Maybe he just wanted to know how big an apple she could bite into.
@mehcuda67 @RiotDemon @therealjrn One time at band camp…
Oh, sorry, wrong story.
@2many2no @mehcuda67 @therealjrn I went there.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
it just happened a couple weeks ago in a town a couple over from mine:
