Today’s challenge will be a guessing game for the masses. For each* item listed today, you (Yes, you!) will have a chance at a $10 coupon for the item of your choice in our 10th year.
The rules for the game are simple: For every* product listed following this post, you will have 5 minutes to guess how many of that item will sell during the event. That is, how many can we get rid of before 12am EDT? You can guess at any time in the first 5 minutes the item is available. If you want to rethink your first guess, you can guess a second time in that 5-minute window, but only two guesses maximum per item, and edits will disqualify you for that item.
Your objective is to get as close to the total sold as possible without going over. The closest guesses at the end of the day will receive coupons. To keep from clogging up every product thread with guesses, please, post them within this topic. When a new product is listed, put the name of the product (copied from the product offer) and your guess. If someone has already created a comment for that product, please use the reply option to put your own guess there. No need to say “PIJO” since that’s all this thread is about. If you see “PIJO” in a product thread, please point that person here for this update.
Notes: Guesses after the first 5 minutes will be ignored, and if you guess more than twice we’ll still only take the second guess, which must also be inside the 5-minute window. If anyone hits the number dead-on, their prize will be doubled (two $10 coupons) and the person with the most winning guesses (if anyone gets more than one) will receive an additional prize!
*No guesses on IRKs. Those aren’t “products” and aren’t eligible for this game.

@Star2236 Yes, exactly. The number isn’t always different, but since the offer is live for much longer than it’s front page listing, you might want to base or estimate or the people who won’t start buying until they wake up for the day or even get off of work. The 5-minute limitation just means you won’t have a lot of information to base your guess on. Best to just guess higher than everyone else unless their guesses are crazy because you want to be as close to the top as you can be. Guessing lower than any previous guess will automatically mean they’d beat you. Good luck!
@ExtraMedium A couple questions. It sounds like you cannot guess over the number, you have to be below or exact, correct?
Also, on a 2-day mehrathon, are we able to buy the previous day’s deals on the second day?

Are we picking the number of sales on each item for today only, or because it’s a 2 day Meh-rathon, are we picking the number of sales for both days?
@Dakini@Lynnerizer The game will run on both days. Today’s game will run today, and tomorrow will be its own day. The guesses for today only apply until midnight when the next half kicks off. Also, I’ll make the call about how to handle a tie when I see it happen. I don’t want to have everyone trying to game the system by all guessing the same number, so we’ll tentatively say the first two players with that number get to have it locked in and both get coupons.

@carl669 That is no longer correct. For the first 5 minutes that any item is listed, you can put a new comment here with your guess as a reply and I’ll do a manual check at the end of the event by going item-by-item and figuring out who did the best.

Also, to be clear, the winners won’t be picked until the whole event is over since anyone can buy stuff all the way up to the end so the count won’t be complete. Plus, you’ll have to give me time to check each one and get it sorted, so please give me until the end of the week at least.

To give you an example of a guess that won’t count (sorry @james) this is how I’ll be measuring the guesses:
You can see by the tooltip that the guess was made at 12:08 and for that first item the window of 5 minutes would have been from 12:00 to 12:05. I have a list with the start times for every item and will use that to know the exact time to cut off guesses.

Had to find this thread for the explanation to all the ‘PIJO’ replies now flooding the item pages. This is gonna make it really hard to read replies about the products themselves, or really replies about literally everything else, swimming amongst the noise.
@PooltoyWolf Gonna be real honest and tell you that I thought I’d have to sort through 10-12 per item at most. I’ve updated the rules, we’ll see how that goes.

@extramedium - unless you can see something we can’t later this week you aren’t going to be able to tell who guessed within the first 5 min and who did later by the end of the week… You might need to go through and delete comments that are “late” now so that you only look at who was within the time limit.
TOO LATE TO EDIT: Or put LATE in caps in front of the late was as you go along. That is probably better so that people don’t wonder where their guess went.

Maybe change the rules again (yup kill me) for you (or a designated person) make one comment in each product thread for the count and everyone puts their count under that comment deleting the reply to person’s ID (the punishment for not doing that is your guess doesn’t count) so as not to drive that person/you crazy?
Also the count doesn’t count if it isn’t as a reply to that comment? And temporarily lock the game topic with an explanation where to go and what to do, edit your rules to only reflect the new rules, hope for the best and as a back up run away from home?
Only open the game thread after people have a chance to see and follow the new rules?
