Lego Hoard
8I have a big closet. Good for most people, not so great for people with hoarding tendencies. Anyway I found a tub of Lego sets, probably all retired since I forgot they were there. Any suggestions on what to do with them? Figure out Ebay? Open them and play? Put them back for my kids to sell when I die?

Below are prices on Bricklink (and roughly what I would list them for). Probably not worth opening a store for you, but would give you an idea of online price. If you wanted to unload them, expect to get about half this (or less) from someone that would flip them. If you sell them individually you get more. If it was me (and I didnt have a store), I would say, sell the big box sets individually on ebay, group the star wars stuff and sell in one lot, and give the rest out at Halloween…you will become the house of legend (for the night at least or until you run out).
10230 - $100+ (best set)
70228 - $45
40090 - $10
40448 - $20
40083 - $50-60 (this is the sleeper in your group)
31015 - $10
30009 - $5
30201 - $20-25 (another sleeper)
30056 - $10
40021 - $5
30010 - $3
30058 - $25-30 (Star Wars is always good)
30474 - $7
40034 - $7
30542 - $3
40010 - $10
30008 (2) - $5 (each)
40032 (7) - $5 (each)
30009 (21) - $5 (each)
If you live near Cinci and want to unload them, let me know.
@kykazaa Thanks- cool idea. Christmas trees for everyone this Halloween. I think that truck was a freebie with purchase so nice. I would donate some to you if I lived closer. (Want some Christmas trees?)
@kykazaa @sammydog01 Is the first one the only one that’s open? If the others are all unused, wouldn’t that raise all those prices?
@Kyeh @sammydog01 I gave you the new prices. As the most expensive set is ‘partially opened, I would still mark as new but note which bags are open. A little insight on opened LEGOs. The biggest challenge with opened/used LEGOs is mode people don’t know how to figure out which pieces are missing and either lie about it or are inept in knowing that there are missing pieces. So most informed buyers assume you are missing stuff and deduct accordingly. In order to get best value you have to validate every piece against an inventory like Bricklink.
@Kyeh @kykazaa One of my too many to count hobbies is buying bags of Legos from the thrift store and piecing together sets. I love Bricklink.
not sure about the others, but the 10230 set is worth about $100 used.

@carl669 That’s the only one I remember buying- it was $80. I can get my money back!
@carl669 @sammydog01 one of the great things about LEGO is how it retains its value. Unopened sets usually see a price increase after they are retired. This is especially true of the licensed series (Harry Potter, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, etc). Friends and City sets will retain their value, but don’t see big jumps typically. The Creator sets are a mixed bag. Train and Modular building series do really well, the others are ok. Good luck!
Solution: send them to that ruouttaurmind doofus who used to annoy everyone up in here.
@ruouttaurmind You’re the first person I thought of when I found the tub.
@sammydog01
@ruouttaurmind
Do you have them all set up in a display room?
@f00l No. Life got in the way. I had been collecting the LEGO Creator Expert buildings with the vision that when I collected enough for a respectable street scene I was going to assemble them into a diorama on the plant shelf between my kitchen and family room. Then I started the huge task of moving my mother here, got her a little house, and have been working every weekend ever since renovating and remodeling her house. So spare time, and money for frivolous things have been in very short supply for the last 3 years.
@f00l @ruouttaurmind if you have some of the older modular buildings, those are in high demand. You can definitely recoup your investment on those and probably make a better return than the stock market
@f00l @kykazaa @ruouttaurmind We have a lot of the modular buildings (not the really old ones.) They are on our train table. But the kids got older and we never really did anything with them. And I stopped buying them.
@sammydog01 This! It’s exactly what I imagined for my plant shelf display!
/giphy envy
@ruouttaurmind I should go take them apart and play with them. They’re so fun on the inside. Maybe after I get some of my other hoards cleaned up.
@f00l @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 some good retired sets in there.
Or @kykazaa, the Lego goat …
I want the little steam train! (31015)
@PooltoyWolf I have the winter village train (10254) and motorized it. Now I want a bigger train set.
Why stop collecting now?
You know you want it…
